National relevance,

Close, but no. We lost every meaningful game we played.

It's true. We lost all the games we played that had title implications under Petrino. Every single one. Because we didn't play good enough defense.

We played in and won multiple ranked vs ranked match ups that put us in position for prestigious bowl games and high rankings.

You only want to look at the ones we lost though

Success in college football is defined by division, conference, and national championships. Love it or hate it, that's the fact.

National relevance is defined by those things as well, unless you're Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame, USC, or a few others. Nobody will ever be out there making the case for the 11-1 Hogs, who didn't win their division, or conference. We will need to rip off a few national championships before that will ever be the case.
