I disagree with the OP on Byran Jones though. I think he has had a good career here considering the crap show of defensive coaches he had here.
I was thinking he was the one who backed up Robert Thomas Saturday?
He hasn't lived up to the hype, but considering the class it isn't necessarily his fault, someone had to be hyped in that class, I guess.
Whoever the back up for Thomas was, after he broke his leg, Spurrier went right after him on the round with huge gains as a result, I quit watching shortly after as it wasn't Spurrier feeling it out, he changed his game plan/play calling like this was a known issue after scouting the team prior to the game, it probably isn't any secret to SEC coaches are depth or lack there of at certain positions.

Bama never recruited Flowers, he was just a major gem. I think he had 2 BCS offers.
I could have sworn he received interest from Bama, but not an offer.
Philon was a gift on NSD.

Looking back, this year is so similar to 2008.
2008: Played 17 Freshman, Started the year 3-4 and lost 3 straight to three top 15 teams. Blew a big 4th quarter lead to Kentucky
2013: Played 20 Freshman, Started the year 3-4 and lost 3 straight to top 15 teams. Blew a big 4th quarter lead to Rutgers

Played 20 Freshman,
Here is the problem, all I remember is the complaining and attacking Nutt on the messageboards for Petrino playing 17 Freshmen (most in the country and all of that, remember?), no body is wanting to acknowledge how many have played this year, it isn't a talent problem, its a coaching problem, ammirite?
You can admit that Petrino's recruiting wasn't great without it being an attack on his Sugar Bowl loss, so many of our fanbase is struggling to accept this, he had to be better than Nutt in ever facet of the game, he just had to be...
Petrino inherited this class from 2007:
Damario Ambrose
Brandon Barnett
Jake Bequette
Freddy Burton
Adrian Campbell
Joe Chaisson
Grant Cook
Kareem Crowell
Tim Dial
Nathan Dick
Jerry Franklin
Juwan Franklin
Grant Freeman
Greg Gatson
Wade Grayson
Bret Harris
Michael Harris
Patrick Jones
Brandon Lampkin
Walner Leandre
Jermaine Love
Isaac Madison
Seth Oxner
Rhett Richardson
Alex Tejada
Crosby Tuck
David Williams
CBB has inherited this class from 2012:
Vin Ascolese
Cordale Boyd
Ray Buchanan Jr.
Jared Collins
D'Arthur Cowan
Austin Flynn
Keon Hatcher
Eric Hawkins
Will Hines
Nathan Holmes
Taiwan Johnson
Brandon Lewis
Defonta Lowe
MeKale McKay
Otha Peters
Darius Philon
Donovan Roberts
Jeremy Sprinkle
A.J. Turner
Jeremy Ward
Jonathan Williams
Demetrius Wilson
JaMichael Winston
Deatrich Wise
I'm hopeful a combination of the 2012 and 2013 class can replicate the awesome 2008 class of instate recruits who were mostly already committed when Petrino was hired as I don't see an instate class like that occurring again in the near future.
2014 and 2015 classes are going to be huge in terms of going back the right direction and sustaining the success once there.

When we fired Holtz and followed up by not hiring Jimmy Johnson. Once again pissing in the face of home grown talent.
This is the absolute truth to the decline

What happened back in the 80s has nothing to do with the recruiting that is leading to the on field results of the team this year.
Disagree to a point, the decline started then and we haven't done shite (except when we had Petrino) since.

Ask any of the recruits on the above list if they give a shite what happened in regards to coaching decisions before they were born.
Petrino is responsible for the 2010 and 2011 classes, he recruited them.
It isn't somehow Broyles fault for hiring Hatfield over Johnson due to his recruiting tactics concerns, it isn't because he didn't hire Switzer to replace Kines, it isn't because he hired Nutt, it is because Petrino mailed it in during the recruiting process, why would he care? After the results with inherited talent and recruits, his buyout was massive enough to not worry about whether the fan base would turn on him for subpar years after 21-5...

I think I got him and Darrel Smith or whatever

That's right, but we actually flipped him from Georgia Tech or the coach pulled his offer because he came here on a visit.

Could care less what any of the recruits say or you for that matter. We can play "what ifs" all day long, but the fact of the matter is that players look at the Arkansas program as a mediocre, non-championship winning program. It is what it is.
Maybe JJ or Switzer could have continue the momentum that Broyles and Holtz had going, maybe not. The fact is, Hatfield, Crowe, Kines, Ford, Nutt and Smith haven't even stiffed a big time game. Could have if we won the SEC, but didn't.
The decline is so obvious.

Broyles really wasn't that great of an AD
Long won't hire someone just because they're in the GOBN

I think Auburn was the one recruiting Flowers

It must be a miracle Florida, Boise, Oregon, Stanford, Michigan State, aTm, Baylor, Florida St, Oklahoma St, and TCU have been able to put together nationally competitive programs in that same time frame then, because previous championships matter so much in recruits of today's minds...
