Am I the only one struggling with this? I mean, the attention and spotlight on our program is pretty cool. But I’m worried about the pressure a preseason top 5 would put on this young team. Maybe it’s just been too long since we’ve been relevant for me to relish this. I’ve grown accustomed to the underdog role. Those 90s teams had a swagger that made you embrace the hype. I’m just not there yet.

I’m not convinced we will start out that great. If we had a veteran base then I’d feel better with the young ones blended in.

I feel like we will take a while to gel like our Muss teams have done but by seasons end they’ll be ready to make a run in the dance. The #1 ranking for this group is fun, but not realistic this early.

I think the hype is the Muss effect, they respect our coach and I agree.

Last year both Duke and Kansas were consensus in the "way too early top 5". The year before, Gonzaga and Baylor were the consensus top 2 the day after the tourney finished.

I think like all young teams, we will see growing pains but it doesn't always eliminate you if you can peak at the right time, similar to how Duke did this year

It's a tough one for me to get a read on. On the one hand, we are bringing in a tremendous amount of young talent. Maybe the most we have ever seen. On the other, I feel like what Muss has done so well using the transfer portal is he is finding solid players with high basketball IQ. He has needed that because his system is demanding. So while these guys are all great players, they may struggle a bit more early on than even the last couple of teams did.

Or, they may not. Muss may adjust his system to suit their talents and we may see more of a team like he was building in Nevada that was scoring 85+ per game.

Excited to see what happens, and he still has room to get some experience out of the portal to help with leadership. I'm hoping that Williams returns. If he does this team is going to have a very high ceiling.

I think this is at least a possibility. Defense will still be at the core but recall his first order of business in year 1 was telling Joe, Sills and Jones to start shooting a ton more 3's. He knew that they defended fairly well but weren't creating enough offense despite being a good shooting team.
