Shannon... Me thinks he is the one as long as we have waited, and I heard a tid bit last night to make me believe this is the case...

I feel like he's just going to leave in < 3 years. I'd rather have some stability

Idk, he could stick around for a while. I would think after a certain age you would get tired of moving. Of course he could get an offer that he couldn't refuse also.

If a DC is good they are going to be looking for a HC job. I just want the best guy possible and if we have to do this again in a couple years then so be it.

i'd be surprised. sure, odom would be at an SEC school, but he'd take a demotion from a coordinator to a position coach. considering what odom has done at Memphis, seems like he could stick around for another season or two and get a DC job at a big school.

yeah taking the demotion doesn't make sense for him

Idk. He would gain experience in the sec west. He can get better recruits, and better resources to recruit. He builds bridges with some big name coaches....Bert, Shannon, among others, which can lead to future jobs and good recommendations. learns from big name coaches. Puts his name on the map a little more than it already is with other big/sec schools. Assuming he has a family and good taste...Fayetteville > Memphis. And, we probably have enough money to make it worth the demotion while gaining all I've listed above.

scenario like this happens (titles) -

Shannon named AHC/LB coach or co-DC/LB coach
Smith named DC/S coach or co-DC/S coach (or Taver named S coach and Smith coaches CB's)

we groom the DC to take over for good in a few years when Randy gets a HC opportunity

*if not Smith change Smith's name with Odom

He might be under the impression he would take over DC if and when Shannon left...

Either way it looks like odom will be on the staff as DC/safeties coach or just safeties coach

There is no one to coach the DL in that scenario.

I'm hoping for Shannon for DC and Ron Cooper as DB coach.

Per source, expect Bret Bielema to wait until after Signing Day to name a new defensive coordinator

Why??? If it's Shannon, why not just do it on 2/1 (assuming that Miami thing is correct)?

Maybe it's a current DC at another school that didn't want to jeopardize their recruiting? Maybe he wants to preserve his relationships.

I'm just shooting in the dark here.
