So, I'm old and out of touch - and I'm trying to convince my oldest to go to Arkansas (both the wife and I graduated from there). She qualifies for the new scholarship that will deduct 90% of out of state tuition rate, but I was curious to know how the students here are funding their education. I hate how Arkansas ties in Loans as "Aid" (that's bullshite).

Especially out of state students - how are you bridging the gap? Unfortunately, it's cheaper to go to Mizzou than Arkansas (in-state).

She wants to go to Colorado State - frick Colorado State.

Like everywhere else, if they aren't an athlete or have the GI Bill they are going into debt with student loans. Fortunately Arkansas is generally fairly inexpensive.

I believe uam is the cheapest 4 year school in the state.

Not sure if that's in the cards.

Well, she has a 4.1 GPA (and her highest composite ACT is 28). I always figured grades mattered - LOL. I was hoping there were more options. My nephew goes to UAM, and he likes it pretty well there.

We're not scared of debt. It's a bubble that'll eventually bust anyway. Thanks all for your input.

Thank you. She's a hard working kid, and has earned every one of her accolades

That is tremendous job she's done. With grades like that don't let her go to Colorado State. With no insult intended to them, Colorado State is a perfectly decent school, but it is pretty middle of the pack when you get down to it.

I would steer her to Mizzou if she isn't interested at all in Arkansas.

Though, of course, that depends on what she wants to major in. If she has a specialized interest then I could see going somewhere that does that extremely well.

Send her to EIU, as a veteran with no debt, I'll take care of her (jk).

In all seriousness, as a non-traditional student with kids, send her to a community college before a university.
