via the woopigs dot net, serving only the BEST of third-hand info (and because i refuse to go to h-ville to check FOR the primary quote):

"Davenport is saying we've hired an OC, doesn't know who but the person who told him we hired one said "wow'' as to who we got"

doesn't point to a Roper/Joker type of hire.

Here's the actual Dick Davenport quote

quote:

I spoke to someone with knowledge of the new Arkansas offensive coordinator. The person calls the hiring excellent and is very optimistic the offense will be improved.

Maybe I'm a glass half empty kind of guy but Im always leery of those types of comments. Is someone close to the situation going to say anything different? We might have differing opinions of what is considered exciting. I recently learned while reading a Pitt message board after Chaney left that there were quite a few Hog fans out there who were disappointed that he left. I know, my mind was blown too. However, this makes me realize that there are same crazies out there who would think Joke Phillips would be "exciting." Hopefully that is not the case here.

agree with Chesh on this....

There are many who would view Chaney as a great hire, and did once he was hired here. Google is your friend.

Just because a current coach/AD/SI person say's "Awesome Hire" doesn't get me excited at all.

However, prior to complaining or feeling very let down consider the following. Whomever it is should be considered in light of what just left. How much would it take for an upgrade And, Smith sure didn't wow me, until he hit the field with those D players.

So far we have heard everything from Roper to Mich State OC, to T Martin, to Loggans, to Joker Phillips, to .... Geesh

But seriously, where are the Roper and Phillips rumors coming from? Is it just because Bert was in Florida on a recruiting visit? Because I haven't seen anything other than message board chatter pointing to either of those guys.

Same thing on the radio this morning. The OC is already in place, but everyone is mum on the name. All that they will say is that it is a great hire.

I'm still holding out hope that he picked up an OC from out West that is good but that would also hole up some recruiting ties such as Noel Mazzone....or possibly Al Borges?

He's not doing anything is he? He has SEC experience, West Coast connections, etc. He is well rested.

Borges has been described as "one of the best offensive coordinators I've ever seen," by former Auburn head coach Pat Dye

Who is @SEC_Writer, and how do we know he's not just referring to RD's blog?

eta: actually that guy never tweeted that it, and unless a sophomore named Wes has some good inside info he is just blowing smoke.

Arkansas names Dan Enos former HC at Central Michigan as their new OC.

How crappy is your school when you want out as HC and take an SEC OC Job
