Kiffen was contacted yesterday via back channels. No formal interview was done. Remember most of this is handled 2nd hand for good reason.

I am not sure on Norvell.. I had heard they were meeting with him but some things fell through after some vetting. We have seen the rumors, but nothing solid yet.

I was surprised with the Venables info... Because I was told they wanted to go with an Offensive minded coach. BUt it may be true.

We don't have to be in a major hurry, but we need to do something soon enough to impact the early signing period imho!

I was reading on clemsons board that venables son is at clemson or coming to clemson next year. Don't know which it is.

The way clemson fans talk about us.

His son is committed for the 2018 signing class to sign in either December or February.

One would presume if his father became the coach here he would also have a scholarship offer to Arkansas.

I think the entire point of the thread is what people tried to tell you weeks back when you were screaming the sky is falling because we won't be able to compete with these schools for a coach. Fact is nearly every one of these schools will be pursuing entirely different candidates than Arkansas.

Unless we are talking about a Matt Campbell or Nick Saban type candidate schools will be pursuing candidates that are experienced in recruiting in each of the different regions these schools are located in.

Arizona State, for instance, has almost exactly zero bearing on a coaching search in Arkansas.

You don't have to believe it, but as most of us can already see, these schools are hiring coaches Arkansas doesn't appear to have even spoken to.

I read in one of these threads that Arizona State has reached out to Norvell. If true, you're wrong.

ETA: And nobody said the sky was falling. I was simply pointing out that the sheer number of higher profile programs in the market for a coach did not bode well for us being able to go out and get the best coach available. It was true then, and it's true today.

Norvell isn't going anywhere unless it's Fayetteville.

Near as I can tell we aren't even talking to the best coaches available.

It is irrelevant. Irrelevant then and irrelevant now.

Agree to disagree, I guess. I don't think most people on a message board have any idea which coaches are available, and which aren't. I do know that having fewer programs in the market for a coach improves the prospects of getting the best available, even more so when several of them have a higher profile. It's just common sense.

Some folks on here do know (with a fair degree of accuracy) SOME coaches that are available. Or not. And some coaches that are available to certain schools are NOT available to other schools.

It isn't just the schools that consider things like "fit" when it comes to their coaching search. Smart coaches also consider this when considering whether or not to take a certain job.

Look at Kirby Smart for instance. He was rumored to be in the running for every open position in college football for years before he decided to take the Georgia job. He took it because it's his alma mater and it was a good fit for him. He wasn't interested in other positions.

Arkansas has a couple of candidates right now that are in a similar position.
