Scouting report on Diamond Hogs opponent Friday for the first game of the Tony Gwynn classic. Cal Poly comes in with a 1-3 record but 3 of the games decided by one run or extra innings. All four games were played last week in the Surprise AZ tourney with Cal Poly splitting with Gonzaga winning 8-7 losing 5-4. They also lost to New Mexico in 10 innings 3-1. The lone beating they took was from #2 Oregon State 16-7. With Cal Poly playing #2 last week and now #3 Arkansas not a wild guess they have had the toughest schedule in the nation so far.

Much like Arkansas their strength is the middle with catcher Nick Meyer and middle infielder Kyle Marinconz (.273 last season and 1st team Big Sky Conference) and Scott Ogrin as well as center fielder Alex McKenna who batted .360 last season and earning 1st team Big Sky honors.

On the mound they have to replace their Friday and Saturday starters from last season but they have the arms to do it with preseason 2nd team(Collegiate Baseball) Michael Clark last season 5-0, 11 saves and 2.59 ERA. Also look for Trent Shelton to become one of the weekend starters last season 2.30 ERA.
