This is going to be a totally off the wall suggestion - I'll go ahead and admit that it is unlikely.

I wonder if we could put Kjerstad at first - good height and athleticism. Not sure if he has ever played first base.

Put Bonfield in left field and keep Lee at DH.

Kenley might take over first with his defense.

Kjerstad could end up over at 1st. Move Bonfield to LF and open the DH.

Eh. Kenley has a good glove but I don't like default holes in the lineup.

DVH: first base hasn’t been good defensively or offensively. May see a change this weekend. May put another shortstop there.

Question, Are we just now figuring out that we have issues at 1st. Or could it be that Dave uses that position to find a hot bat since Kenley, Gates nor McFarland can't be consistent at the plate?

With two series left not sure this is even a viable option.

aTm probably has the best Friday - Sunday rotation we've seen in a while. We'll need the bats this weekend at Baum.

Watch the link I posted. He’s frustrated with lack of production from Gates and McFarland. If not producing hits and RBIs at first they need to be playing solid defense. That isn’t happening so he’s going to more solid defense with someone else at the plate.

McFarland is a huge liability defensively from pop ups to groundballs to not coming off the bag to save a throw. Gates can’t move to begin with and especially can’t since the hamstring injury.

Add in that McFarland may be the dumbest base runner on roster.

I thought Gates played pretty well defensively earlier in the season, but he hasn't been able to get it going offensively. McFarland is normally really good at digging balls thrown to him but can't field a pop up to save his life.

I guess the Lee experiment at first is over. Not sure who else you put there.

They do something stupid on the bases every other game it seems.

In the link I posted DVH is talking about Lee in the first few seconds.

Said he’s a pitcher and hitter not a defender whatsoever.

I like the idea of Martin moving over to first and Kenley at 3rd. Shaddy is healthy again so Martin won't be playing 2nd.

Kenley isn't the total liability at the plate that he was last season and has gotten better the more plate appearances he has had.

Martin isn’t a corner infielder though. He’s a middle infielder by trait specifically 2B and only playing third this year because Shaddy at second and our hole at third.

Best defensive maneuvering would be Kenley at third, Martin to second and Shaddy to first but DVH likely doesn’t want to make all those changes this late in the season. Shaddy hits and produces like a 1B at the plate.

So we get Wilson or Kenley at first and see how they handle it a few games and go from there. Hopefully someone gets hot and it wakes up McFarland/Gates.

McKinney had a second Tommy John’s surgery last month.

Makes sense, since he never showed back up in the lineup and Dave wouldn't talk about it.

Hate it for the kid

sucks... I hope this one lasts, and he does well.

Does this happen often, and if it does, how well has it done for these guys?

"He's been through three surgeries now, one on the hip and two on the elbow," Arkansas head baseball coach Dave Van Horn said of McKinney. "They were all major surgeries. I've seen him work so hard to get himself in the best shape I'd ever seen him when he came back this summer and ready to go. Then for him to get hurt again, he's a tough kid. I think all that he's learned here and all that he's gone through is really gonna help him throughout his lifetime."

The head Hog doesn't think McKinney is done pitching just yet.

"I think he's going to give it his best shot to try to play again next year," Van Horn speculated. "We'll know probably by Christmas if that elbow is going to hold up. If it doesn't I think that he'll be successful in whatever he chooses to do in the business world because he knows how to persevere and get through things when it's not going good."
