Yep, diet is the biggest factor for success and my biggest challenge.

I don't have hopes of becoming a fitness model but would like to be in better condition and be able to keep up with the kiddos.

I may start doing pushups, sit-ups and some dumbbell/kettlebell work in the evenings. Insanity seems to be 95% cardio. Thoughts?

I have an excellent strength training suggestion that will sufficiently work and challenge all your muscle groups.

Google: Spartacus Workout

You will need either kettlebells up to 45 - 55 lbs or dumbbells from 15 - 45 lbs.

It may be a cheesy name, but this workout is extreme. Insanity will feel lazy compared to this workout. Spartacus is a quicker workout than Insanity, which is nice if you find you have little time for sufficient exercise. The workout takes anywhere from 15 - 30 minutes.

This is a featured Men's Health workout, so it's the real deal.

Good luck.

Got it downloaded on my iPad. It's pretty tough. I have both kettlebells and dumbbells. I have some of the books and DVDs from Dragon Door, which is a great resource for kettlebell workouts.

Glad you're being good here. I was poised to immediately ban you.

CtotheVzrback says it doesn't work unless you light candles and perform it in the men's restroom.

Week 2 of Insanity started this morning. I think I'll start the push-up/sit-up routine CTV mentioned at nights. Maybe Mon, Weds & Fri nights. Start with 100 push-ups, 150 sit-ups, 100 tricep dips, and planks. Probably take me 10 sets to get it done.

What do the fitness gurus think?

At work I try to do 50 pushups at least once per hour. I'll drop to the floor, knock em out in a long minute, and then back to work.

No need for caffeinated drinks when you are keeping your metabolism fueled with a good diet and exercise.

I don't think I could do 50 pushups in a minute or minute and a half.

I'm sure I can't do 50 consecutive pushups, used to be able to do so, but that was 20 years and 60lbs ago.

I understand.

You don't need to do 50. Just do 10 or 15 every hour when you have a few minutes to drop down to the floor.

I'm going to be honest with you, I've done pushups in the men's bathroom. Granted, usually I would never do this because I'm somewhat a germ phobe. However, I'm the only one who uses said bathroom, sooo....

The idea is to simply take a couple of minutes each hour or couple of hours to stimulate your body muscles.

I'll try it. How many times a day should this be done?

Should I do like 20 pushups then next session do 20 tricep dips and then the next session 1 minute of plank, and so on and so forth. Or would it be more beneficial to just do pushups all day?

In my opinion, it doesn't really matter as long as you are impacting your muscle groups daily. If you do this on top of a scheduled daily workout or strength training regimen, you'll most definitely see a difference within a month or two.

Remember, portion control, portion control, portion control when it comes to diet. It'll take you about two weeks to reprogram your body to accept a change in diet, so be prepared to fight a little bit of hunger at first. You need to be strong minded mostly during the first two weeks. Before long you'll realize that you don't crave as much food as before. When you realize this is about the same time that you will realize that you feel better, have more energy, perhaps less headaches.

Drink plenty of water. Water make you feel full and less likely to snack. Also, research foods that prevent the feeling of hunger.

Once you have reprogrammed your body to enjoy healthy food and a high intensity exercise regimen, you'll feel guilty if you deviate from your healthy lifestyle. That's a good thing.

Twice a day I usually do as many push ups as I can in a minute. I try to beat myself each time.

Diet is the key for me, and my biggest challenge.

Which diet do our posters prefer. I've had great success with low carb but I don't think it is sustainable nor does it appear that a prolonged keto state is really good for us. So, back to lean meats, veggies and some complex carbs.

Thoughts?
