My son is starting BJJ in 2 weeks. Carlos Machado's here in Dallas. I think I'm just as excited as he is.

That is really cool. I bet he loves it. I SO wish I had found it before I turned 50. I highly recommend that he find Stephan Kesting's stuff on YouTube and subscribe to his free email list. Also, tell him to be patient and don't sweat being overwhelmed and lost at first. It happens to EVERYONE. Our instructor usually tries to steer new folks toward kickboxing instead of BJJ because kickboxing is much easier to pick up quickly, so it has a higher retention rate. If he'll stick with it a few weeks, it'll almost certainly grow on him. It's downright addictive after that.

Good thoughts.

He took tae kwon do (or however it's spelled) for about 2 years. I'm hoping the discipline and patience part will transfer from that, but BJJ definitely takes more. Plus, you know kids...

I would love to give it a try myself.

Smoke free for 5 months now. I started a weight gain diet, yes, weight gain. I've gained 6lbs in the last 2 months. My goal is 180, I'm about 170 right now.

Down 2.5 lbs this week, although probably 1 was fluids. I'll take it. 28 lbs until I hit my goal.

Good work!

After a few slow weeks, I'm hoping for one of those 2+ lb weeks here pretty soon.

Thanks! I'm a bit discouraged because at the first of November last year, I was less than 15 pounds from my goal. Then the holidays happened, got a new job, hubby had heart bypass surgery...ugh!

Back on track now and feeling much better!

Thanks!

He's fully recovered now and actually feeling better than before the surgery. He did't realize how much he had slowed down.

Also, I'm definitely doing the Tough Mudder in Dallas in two months if anyone would like to join our team. It's on October 26th, the day of the aTm game, but I requested a 9:00am start time, so... Registration will be about $150, but I may have a discount code available if anyone is interested.

I'll be the aTm game, although I do want to run in a toughmudder or warrior dash.

The A&M game is on Sept. 28 ... the day of the Big Dam Bridge 100 in Little Rock. If you aren't going up to the game, we'll have rides of 100, 62, 50, 25, and 15. George Hincapie is coming in for the ride, and we should have close to 3,000 riders, so it should make for a fun weekend. Plus ... no electric shocks :)
