Great Article.

Ultimately, the wishbone was just a new way to outflank a defense and attack multiple areas at the same time. Principally it does this by cycling through three options: the inside run (FB dive option), the off-tackle run (QB keep), and the outside pitch (to the trailing halfback).
In the mid-2000s, a Texas high school coach named Chad Morris watched Arkansas unleash some old option concepts in a new guise with star runner Darren McFadden.
Morris had just replaced head coach Art Briles at Stephenville High School and failed to maintain the state championship standard that Briles had established. He'd switched from Briles' spread game to a power-I scheme, and Stephenville had missed the playoffs for the first time in 14 years. He determined to go to that Arkansas coach and learn as much about his offense as he could. That Arkansas coach was Gus Malzahn.

I’m all about him too, I realize every day it seems like I’m asking for something on here but i want an official announcement before I let myself fully dive in.
This might surprise but I love the fact that he uses stuff he learned from Gus. As long as we don’t have picture plays on the sidelines- he doesn’t do that does he?

I do enjoy some wishbone offense. Its been fun watching Army OC Brent Davis add plays to Army's inverted wishbone that they run out of a shotgun/pistol formation.

Some of that is true but the timeline isn't right. Here's the real story.
LINK
It's an old DMN story, long as hell but the definitive Chad Morris bio. Spend some time on it.
About Gus
Read how it ends, January 2004.

About Gus

When people reminded him, “This is way Art did it,” he began countering, “I’m not Art.”
But what to do?
Morris pointed north to Arkansas, to the city of Springdale near the northwest corner of the state, hard by the Oklahoma border. It was there in the self-proclaimed Poultry Capital of the World that a high school coach named Gus Malzahn was running a wide-open offensive attack that was bringing him acclaim across the high school world.
It took Morris, “head in hand,” three trips to Arkansas to earn an audience with Malzahn... The first time he went to talk to Malzahn, Morris got as far as a playoff postgame handshake.
The second time, also after a playoff game, there was a handshake and some small talk.

I watched some film of their games last night to get a feel of this dude's offense, and I gotta say it's impressive. A good game of theirs to watch is the TCU game from this season. SMU played TCU one week after we played them. We only scored on TCU once and SMU made the shite look easy. Right out the gate you see him trot out the wildcat, but it was cool to see how he got there. He bunched 4 wideouts to the left side, moved them all in motion while moving the tight end in motion from the right side and slipped a receiver behind center during all the confusion. Ran off tackle for about 3 yards. Next play was a 60 yard TD pass. Lol

Also, dude was able to recruit some pretty damn good football players to SMU. He had a huge receiver out there. Guy looked like he was 6'4" tall and about 220. Damn good player.
ETA: The thing that is going to be critical to getting this guy's offense humming, and ultimately will determine how successful he is here, is how disciplined can our players be. Any time you're running plays out of the veer (Malzahn) or the wishbone (Morris), turnovers become the Achilles heel of the offense. Otherwise it's a brilliant way to neutralize talent disparity.
