Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams are competing in the NCAA Championships today!

Alabama Set for Saturday’s NCAA Cross Country Championship Races in Stillwater

Saturday marks the third time, and second in a row, that the Crimson Tide men and women will race at the national championships in the same year

The Alabama men and women are set to brave the cold of Stillwater, Okla., when they toe the line on Saturday for the NCAA Cross Country Championships at The Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course.

The No.5-ranked Crimson Tide women, led by Mercy Chelangat, who won UA's first individual NCAA cross country title on this same course two years ago, and Amaris Tyynismaa, who was third at those same championships, race 6-kilometers starting at 9:20 a.m. CT.

The No. 25-ranked Alabama men, led by Victor Kiprop, who is undefeated this season including wins at the Southeastern Conference NCAA South Regional Championships, will get the 10-kilometer race underway at 10:10 a.m. CT.

Both races will be broadcast live and uninterrupted on ESPU and will be streamed via www.espn.com and the ESPN App. Live results can be found on www.PTTiming.com.

Alabama Head Coach Dan Waters Said
"We've had a really amazing season, one we're really proud of, one that includes the men and women winning SEC team titles in the same season for the first time in program history and both teams advancing to the NCAA Championships in the same season for the third time. There's really nothing left to do at this point but just go out there on Saturday and leave it all on the course. This is the fun part."

Alabama Women Take Third at NCAA Cross Country Championships, Men Finish 27th

The Crimson Tide women posted a program-best third-place finish with 166 points, while the men were 27th with 684 points

STILLWATER, Okla. – The Alabama women finished a program-best third overall at the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships at The Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Okla., Saturday morning.

The event capped an extraordinary season for the Crimson Tide women, who took home their first NCAA trophy (top four teams make the podium) after winning their first Southeastern Conference title since 1987 and first NCAA South Regional Championships since 1986.

The women's previous best finish came in 1987 when the Crimson Tide finished sixth. Saturday also marked the UA women's third top-10 finish, after taking eighth two years ago and sixth in 1987. The Alabama men finished 27th, matching their finish from a year ago.

Alabama Head Coach Dan Waters Said
"Our women finished off an amazing season with the best national championship finish in program history. They were in it from the start and battled their way to our first podium restul, which means we're bring NCAA hardware back to Tuscaloosa. We're super proud of the job they've done all season and the way they've represented this University. We didn't have the finish we were capable of on the men's side, but overall, it was a great season for us and we're looking forward to keeping things rolling on the track."

Alabama Places a Program-Best Four Women on 2022 Cross Country All-America List

Mercy Chelengat earns her third All-America honor for cross country while Flomena Asekol and Amaris Tyynismaa were both named to the list for the second time and Hilda Olemomoi brought home her first accolade

NEW ORLEANS – A program-best four Alabama women earned a place on the 2022 Cross Country All-America list, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Monday.

Mercy Chelengat tallied her third All-America honor for cross country while Flomena Asekol and Amaris Tyynismaa both took home the honor for the second time and Hilda Olemomoi earned the accolade for the first time.

Alabama's previous best total in a single season was three during the 2020 season when Chelangat, who won the national title that season, Tyynismaa, who was third, and Esther Gitahi, who was 36th, all earned All-America recognition.

The Alabama women were the only team, men or women, at the 2022 NCAA Championships to put four runners among the individual top-20. Olemomoi finished sixth (19:45.6), Tyynismaa (19:48.2) ninth, Asekol (19:56.5) 14th and Mercy Chelangat (19:58.4) crossed the line in 16th.

As a team, Alabama finished third with 166 points, the Crimson Tide's best finish in program history and first trip to the podium for the women's team. It also marked Alabama's third top-10 finish after taking sixth in 1987 and eighth during the 2020 season.

A total of 14 UA women have earned 19 cross country All-America honors, with Chelangat becoming the first three-time honoree in program history. Asekol and Tynnismaa join Elspeth Turner (1986 and 1987) as the Tide's two-time cross country All-Americans.

DEFENDING 200 BACK CHAMPION RHYAN WHITE PULLS OUT OF SC WORLDS

USA Swimming has announced some last-minute changes to their roster for the 2022 World Short Course Swimming Championships.

Backstroker Rhyan White will miss the trip due to an undisclosed illness, while Erika Brown, Isabelle Stadden, and Claire Curzan all added new events.

White, a 5th year swimmer on the team at the University of Alabama, was seeded 5th in her specialty, the 200 meter backstroke. She was also seeded 7th in the 100 backstroke and 13th in the 50 backstroke.

White is the defending World Champion in short course in the 200 backstroke, winning the event in 2:01.58 last year before leaving the meet early over concerns about the onset of the omicron variant of COVID-19. White also won a bronze medal in the 200 back in long course this summer at the World Aquatics Championships.
