This year will be a struggle regardless. I just want to see hustle and a new style of play. If Mack doesn't come back, I suspect it's because he doesn't like the new system. If that's the case, then we aren't losing anything.

Whether he liked the system or not, we aren’t losing much. He had like 2 good games lol.

Brace yourselves....

Here come the “Oats is going to make Herb/Galin so much better this season! Avery didn’t coach them up!” posts.

Followed by..

“Tevin really wasn’t what we thought he’d be, I doubt Oats would have helped him much!”

With the right coach, maybe Herb and Galin CAN improve. It’s ridiculous to say there’s no chance. And on the topic of Mack, while he didn’t live up to the expectations we had, I still thought he could’ve been a key piece and done well this season. But while I’m sad to see him go, we’re not losing a whole lot of production. He had 2 great games and the rest were bad or average

It shouldn't be a struggle. If we aren't a solid NIT team / NCAA bubble team, I'll definitely be concerned.

Damn that sucks. He was one of the players I was most excited about in Oats system.

Cant fault him for wanting to be closer to home.

Time to tinker my projections...

Starters:

1. Kira (~30 mpg)
2. Petty (25-30 mpg)
3. Herb (25-30 mpg)
4. Rojas (20-25 mpg)
5. Reese (20-25 mpg)

25+ minutes:

6. Bolden (backup 1/2)

18-23 minutes:

7. Gary (backup 3/4)

12-17 minutes:

8. Shackelford (Backup 2/1)

10-15 minutes:

9. Hawkins (backup 5)

Plays some nights, not on others:

10. Smith (backup 5)

Plays sparingly or not at all

11. Forbes
12. Fleming-Davis

I actually think Mack is a decent hit unless Gary is ready to come in right away. Gary definitely looks like the beneficiary of Mack’s departure.

No one is saying this but you.

The "optimists" are hopeful that Oats can get more productive minutes from these two than Avery did. I don't see anything unreasonable about that.

You act like people are expecting Herb to be our leading scorer while Galin averages a double double.

I don’t understand what mods are for if we can’t get trolls banned from posting crap in threads like this and constantly jumping into serious discussions with their BS comments

I mean anyone can be taught to be a respectable shooter if they work hard enough. I think Oats will have Herb respectable shooting wise......Galin too

If Anthony McLemore can be taught to drain 3s at Auburn anyone can be taught

Oats will look pretty stupid with that tweet if Quinerly commits elsewhere.

Yeah which is why I think the visit to Pitt is just to be respectful. Probably already told the staff he’s coming

And to piggyback off this thought, it’s about the coach putting the players in a position to succeed. Hard to be an effective shooter when you’re constantly shooting contested jumpers with shot clock winding down.

If he can’t then we should have stuck with Avery right? Herb especially. Galin might have hit his ceiling.

I look at 3 important factors when it comes to shooting.....

The Look- Good Shot selection
The Confidence-Confidence that you make it
The Rhythm- Stepping into the shot with the same consisten rhythm.

We havent been good at any of those since Gottfried.
