I can't believe how excited I am about Basketball. Life-long Bama football fan here, never really gave a sh1t about Bama B-Ball, mainly because...well...we've sucked.
Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke, Syracuse, UConn, etc are all Basketball schools.
Alabama, Penn State, Tennessee, USC, etc are all football schools. I started thinking one day...we are the Alabama f*cking Crimson Tide..why do we have to settle on being a football school. Schools like Michigan State, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Ohio State, Michigan, etc, they are football AND Basketball schools. No reason whatsoever Bama can't do that too. And I think the Alabama AD department has figured that out. I've had a blast watching this March Madness the last few seasons, and Bama can be a big part of this if we make the right moves.
Avery is the right move. I know everyone was down on how the season ended. But, WE HAVE 0 TALENT on this team. We STILL had a great season, and appeared on the Bracketology several times.
It's all about recruiting baby. And Avery is on the trail. Nick Saban isn't Nick Saban without his recruiting classes. That 2008 class started it all. The 2015 class for Avery was a nice haul originally, with 5-Star (Nick King) & 4-Stars (Donta' Hall, Dazon Ingram & Kobie Eubanks). Hall will be a defensive beast for years. Ingram got injured in like Game 6, Eubanks de-committed because of grades, and King was ineligible to play last season. But, Ingram coming back and Hall going into his sophomore year, and King eligible now makes the 2015 class a very solid foundation to build on.
Next, it looked like the 2016 class was going to be basketball version of the 08 Saban Class. Looked like we were bringing in 4-Stars (Braxton Key & A'rmond Davis), and 5-Star (Terrance Ferguson). Then Ferguson fell through. But still, from what we are used too from Bama basketball, Key and Davis are still a solid haul.
To build a contending team, I think you need to bring in 2-3 four or five star players every recruiting class, and then within 3 seasons you've got yourself a team that no one wants to play in March Madness. Now I know it would be great to have Kobie Eubanks & Terrance Ferguson on the roster next season, but Avery is still doing what ne needs to do...
4 or 5 Star Players brought in...
2015: 5* Nick King, 4* Donta' Hall, 4* Dazon Ingram
2016: 4* Braxton Key, 4* A'rmond Davis
Neither of those classes are Saban's 08 homerun class, but they are very solid. When will Avery's homerun class come? watch out for 2017. I really think he can bring in a good one here. The in-state talent is CRAZY GOOD, & we are in on a few out of state guys too.
In-State guys still uncommitted......
John Petty 5* (If Petty commits to Avery, it would mean what Julio meant to Saban)
Alex Reese 4*
Herb Jones 4*
Jamal Johnson 4*
Garrison Brooks 3*
Bradley Belt 3*
Can't wait for Bama sports to be a year to year championship contender in Football AND Basketball for years to come.

and for the people on here who think Bama basketball isn't going to get any better soon...step away from the ledge my friends. If you can't see the improvement coming, as early as next season, then you are letting the last 2 weeks of this season effect you too much.
Look at it this way....
You've got a $1,000 bet on Bama basketball next season. They make March Madness, you win $1,000, if they don't, you lose $1,000. But, you get 2 teams to choose from next season...
Team 1: Alabama's exact team from last season, with Arthur Edwards & Retin Obasohan staying another season....
or
Team 2: Alabama's exact team from last season, except Arthur Edwards & Retin Obasohan are gone (graduated), and Braxton Key, Nick King, A'rmond Davis, & Dazon Ingram are added to the roster.
You take Team 2 in a heartbeat, because it is extremely talented. We will be better next season for sure.
Retin Obasohan & Arthur Edwards < Braxton Key, A'rmond Davis, Nick King, & Dazon Ingram.

I agree. We will make the NCAA tournament next year. It's just gonna get better every year. It's sets up perfectly for recruiting too. Make the NCAA tourney this coming year and then the 2017 recruits will take notice and want to play here hopefully. I think we'll be much improved this coming year.

SF Austin looks to be this year's Cinderella team this year.

That was a great game! I really wish either Notre Dame or Oregon could win it all. I don't think either of them will tho. If ND won it all, we could say we beat the national champs. If Oregon won it all, we could say we lost to the champs by 4 and then we would get to play at the defending national champs home next year

Picked SFA, Hawaii and Yale in the first round and had SFA beating Notre Dame to go to the Sweet 16.
I think I'm possibly more devastated about that tip in than SFA is.

Next year's schedule will follow a similar philosophy. Alabama already has contracts for a return game at Oregon, a No. 1 seed in the current NCAA team, as well as a home game against Dayton, also an NCAA team. Johnson said there would be "a couple of exciting announcements in the near future" as contract details are finalized, but did not tip his hand.

Very excited to see what those future announcements about the scheduling are. I remember Texas being mentioned. Hopefully we'll get them soon.

I picked Yale and Hawaii, but not SF Austin.
I have picked against VCU, Butler, and Wichita State for years now, and here they are again, fricking it all up once more. It's insane how these programs find such great shooters and can get them to make these frantic finishes in the tourney year in and year out

I would be very excited if we got Texas. Shaka Smart always puts out a tough competitive team that knows how to raise havoc on defense and pound you inside. It would be a great test for the team next year.
Hopefully there's a good tournament for the team like last year. Bama got two impressive wins against tournament teams last time.

Cursed UNI and Xavier. Said Xavier was really fricking good, then turned it over after A&M and UNI were going to double OT and watched the guy for Wisconsin bank a 3 with 0 time left.
Can't believe the games we've seen tonight. Amazing night of basketball.

It's actually kind of made me miss playing. Feel like going to the new Rec center and play a little

I miss playing but it sure did a number on my fingers and knees.
. Nothing makes a noise quite like jamming your finger with a basketball

Alabama is 2-1 against teams in the Sweet 16 with a win over Texas A&M and Notre Dame and a loss to Oregon

Was fixing to post that. And played Oregon to the wire.
