My student years were the Barbee era at Auburn. I legit stopped going to games.

This is probably the most promising future for both teams in years thoygh

Auburn hasn't really been good since then

I remember going to the game below. Auburn had won a bunch of games but had a bad RPI. We were 16-12 but had a decent RPI and had won 3 straight (it was the beginning of the end of the Gottfried era). Probably the only one in which both teams were even semi-possible to go to the NCAAs since 2003.

March 3, 2009
Auburn 77 (19-10)
Alabama 73 (16-12)

A few others?

January 17, 2009
Auburn 85 (10-6)
Alabama 71 (11-5)

January 26, 2008
Alabama 97 (11-8)
Auburn 77 (12-5)

Let's be real, this has more to do with how bad Auburn has been and not really indicative of Alabama's teams.

For the most part we have been in or "around" (and I use that loosely) the NCAA Tournament. Auburn has certainly had more dreadful teams than we have the last 20 years.

Luckily, hopefully, that is about to change for both of us.

Yeah basically every year I've watched Alabama (except that 13-19 year under Grant) we've been around or on the bubble come Selection Sunday and missed the tourney 99% of the time.

Third, the home team in SEC play almost always receives a lot more attempts at the line than the away team (UK visiting excluded). Would not surprise me if the average is around 15 more FTs for the home team. It is completely ridiculous. Officiating shouldn't play that much of a role in the game.

It may seem that way, but at least this season (I'm too lazy to do past years) it simply is not true.

There have been 56 games this season. The road teams average 22.25 free throws and 21.98 fouls per game. The home teams average 26.53 free throws and 19.68 fouls. Those numbers are mean average, but they're virtually identical if you use median.

A difference of 4 free throws and 2 fouls really isn't much of a home court advantage.

Also, if you throw out Kentucky the numbers remain virtually the same.

Fun fact, we've had 4 losing seasons since 1972 (46 seasons).

We've had 5 losing seasons in football since 1972.

Well Auburn has had 4 losing seasons since 2012. How bout dem apples?

Considering that Barbee could have opened up a cupcake shop with his scheduling, it is impressive how much lost. Especially since he had some solid players on those rosters

Yea, he was just a miserable head basketball coach.

Hell, Harrell wasn't even a factor on those teams for him. How on earth can you not see what that guy has and at least nudge him along? He was incredibly talented. Harrell, Sullivan, Denson, Granger, Gabriel. They weren't great, but 9 wins? When your OOC schedule is basically Presbyterian and Stetson? Geez.

KT transferred in and scored 18+ppg under Barbee + Pearl both. We got lucky with him trying to move closer to home + UVA not using him

Gabriel/Sullivan/Denson were all SEC starter quality players.

Then the issue of transferring players.

-Earnest Ross 15+ppg @ Mizzou
-Jordan Price - 19ppg @ LaSalle (Solid midmajor program)
-Andre Malone - solid somewhere else good role guy

Ah, forgot he transferred from UVA. That's possibly why I don't remember him.

He reminded me a lot of Kennedy Winston and Rod Grizzard. So long and fluid with a great, heat stroke type shot when he was going.

You've proven me wrong for this season. I've seen less SEC basketball as a whole this year than I have in the past 10 years. But I've seen this pretty regularly throughout SEC play in years' past. Maybe they've changed? Not sure how you pulled out those stats, but I'd love to see that number in the recent past years.

Looks like Arkansas is currently a 4.5 point favorite.

I'm more interested in the UT Auburn game. If UGA can win at UK, that'd help our RPI

Tennessee looks fantastic. I can't get over how their young guys all look confident and fluid on offense.

Auburn has been lazy on defense, but you're right. This has been the best half court offense performance I've seen from a SEC team this year
