If we go status quo on defense, we'll get shredded. And I have seen no indication that Saban will ever change his scheme. I'm not terribly optimistic.

The real problem has been third downs-and while we still have looked a little shakey on third downs, we look better than we did last year.

Fix the third downs, the defense is elite.

Looking at our dbs vs. looking at LSU's Saturday makes me think they are in two different leagues

We're 70 in passing yards allowed and 76 in completion % allowed. That's what's frustrating. YPA looks way better at 27. Ole Miss is on a different level than UW or MTSU. It's concerning.

We will see.

Our redzone numbers are great though, I am guessing.

It shouldn't completely erase what they did against what may be an 11-1 Wisconsin team with a legit defense.

Wisconsin did win last Saturday 52-0 against Miami-Ohio. Miami isn't a good team, but Wisconsin showed they are probably going to be a pretty good team this year and Alabama dominated them. Of course Wisconsin is a dream match up for Bama. I think Ole Miss is a terrible match up for Bama.

Fact is we don't really know what we have this year yet. I do know that Saban and the coaching staff do as good a job as any preparing this team. You can beat Alabama, but you are going to have to play a hell of a game to do it.

Prescott went 34-52 for 335 yds, and a TD against that secondary.

We both have talented secondary, and judging by the small sample sizes we have this year, there probably isn't that great of a difference between the two.

Well if you throw it 52 times you are going to complete some. Plus, Miles took his foot off the gas and kept giving MSU the ball back.

I still don't believe that their secondary is that much more talented than ours.

LSU's?

I wouldn't say it is if we're purely talking talent. Both are loaded, hard to pick one over the other.

Talent wise there isn't much difference, but they seemed to be coached way better than ours.

Our talent isn't what worries me. Our methods are. The DBs have to be being taught not to look back and locate the football. It's maddening and counter-productive. Cyrus can pull it off most of the time, but I haven't seen any of the other corners/star/money guys do it.

Saban claims they're taught to look for the ball, IIRC.

I think less experienced guys can worry about looking away from the WR and running into him resulting in what may or may not be a fair DPI call. Can't really compare but in HS I played Nickel for a year and CB for a year and until I had done it for a while I was always worried about running into the other guy when I turned around to find the football, especially if I was faster than he was.

However they've been playing Corner for a few years I'd think, so I don't know. Just trying to figure out why sometimes they're not getting their heads around.

Despite that stats after two games, I feel like our secondary has played fine.

Jones has been a beast, Humphrey has been good, and will only get better.

Geno got burned once or twice that I can remember, and I feel like Jackson is holding his own, and will get better with experience at safety.

Yeah, you're right. Short passes are keeping drives alive, but that should be an easy adjustment over time.

Someone gave a full explanation back during the off-season of how DBs typically judge whether or not they should turn for the ball on TSWSNBN. I believe Saban mentioned after the Wisconsin game that on the dpi calls they were "in phase" and thus should've turned for the ball according to what they're coached to do.

The first two games can be misleading for both teams. Still hard to access.

Our defense can keep us in the game but can our offense score enough to win against a very good defense who will commit themselves to stopping the run?

Our QBs are suspect at best and Coker is abysmal when pressured -- he will be pressured in this game.

If the game comes down to a FG ... we lose.

Crimson Mafia, have you watched us play lately? This isn't 2011. It almost feels like 2006.

No Worries on RT, Dom has a broken right toe and Brandon Greene is taking snaps. He is a great OL player and very athletic.
