I stopped following Suttles a long time ago. Dude is a clown and a big time Barnett hater. He was also a Coker hater last year.

I'm not sure that Bateman has the arm strength of McElroy.

Cooper Bateman threw a deep ball that died in flight and was nearly picked off.

him still being in the running is a joke at this point

Practice over. From what we've heard, it's Barnett vs Hurts. Suttles and Marq Burnett said Hurts looked the best today.

Ryan C. Fowler says he has it...
1. Bateman
2a. Barnett
2b. Hurts

That's it for the open practice at BDS. Up next: the slow walking of the Gumps. (The fans are walking in a straight line for autographs.)

The Running of the Gumps is officially no more. Alabama gave out wristbands for the Fan Day autograph session. It's the end of an era.

About damn time.

I think the coaches will have a clearly QB picture after the first practice. My guess the two B's will get a chance to win it with both having equal reps with first team O. If a true frosh wins it then you likely could see 2 QB's leave before the season starts.

All you Bateman haters need to slow your roll. This time the past two years Sims was garbage and Coker was Barnett's back-up. Saban has shown over and over again he will go with the vet that knows the offense and doesn't throw picks. As far as I could tell today, Bateman didn't throw any picks, had good command of the offense and threw a couple of TD's. That doesn't sound bad to me.

BB8 and Hurts clearly are the future...but Hurts threw a pick and Kiffin mentioned he's still learning the offense. BB8 has the best chance to unseat Bateman IMO. My prediction right now is that Bateman and BB8 will both get some spots against USC and whoever does best likely wins the job.

if we can win first game then they will be able to play a different kind of game next. Thus maybe opening things up a tad bit more. I think we will be conservative in game one and win with D and with ST and our Run game. Passing will probably be of the high percentage type

Agreed, which favors Bateman IMO. He is usually fine in short and mid-range throws and knows the offense best. I do expect BB8 to get some snaps, unless Bateman is just killing it against the Trojans.

Barnett wins the job after the 2nd scrimmage after he went off today in the open practice, goes off all fall camp in afternoon practices, and then goes off in the 2 scrimmages. I think Saban nonchalantly names Barnett the starter in a presser a week before the game, so we can use game prep week to get everyone adjusted to Blake.

The other thing to remember about Hurts is if he doesn't RS, there's no separation between him and BB8 in terms of eligibility. I'd guess the coaches would like to get a year between those two guys if possible.

Is anyone else nervous about having Ridley and any RBs playing special teams? Maybe I just worry too much

Nope Saban has done it for years now and discussed this philosophy in past interviews.

Both hurts and Barnett went off today and to a lot of people hurts is better. People who judge talent however, the two scrimmages will tell the tale. Should be interesting. Can't wait to see.
