12 Alabama Athletics Teams Score 90-or-Better in Latest NCAA Graduation Success Rates
A total of seven Crimson Tide teams sported a perfect 100 for this year’s GSR, while six more ranged between 90 and 94
INDIANAPOLIS – A total of eight University of Alabama athletics programs led the Southeastern Conference in Graduation Success Rate (GSR) figures released by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tuesday.
Alabama maintained its overall GSR of 93 for the third year in a row, ranking the Crimson Tide in the top three among SEC schools. The average GSR for all NCAA Division I student-athletes is 89. This year's GSR spans the period covering student-athletes who attended the University during 2012-15.
The men's basketball team remained at a perfect 100 again this year, while the football team posted an 89, which ranks third in the SEC. It marks the 14th year in a row that the Tide football squad has ranked in the top four in the SEC by GSR. Alabama's football total is seven points better than the national average for the Football Bowl Subdivision.
In addition to men's basketball, Alabama also led the SEC with perfect GSR scores in women's golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis and volleyball.
Overall, 12 Alabama programs recorded a GSR score of 90 or better. In addition to the sports that had perfect scores of 100, four others posted scores of 90 or better – women's track and field/cross country (98), men's swimming and diving (97), rowing (97) and baseball (93).
Per the NCAA's database, Alabama is one of just two SEC schools to tally triple digits in GSR scores of 100 since 1998 with 108 and ranks second in the SEC in terms of scores of 90-or-better, trailing Vanderbilt by one with 184.
The GSR measures graduation rates at Division I institutions and includes those transferring into the institutions. The GSR also allows institutions to subtract student-athletes who leave their institutions prior to graduation, as long as they would have been academically eligible to compete had they remained.
