We all remember the deep strikes to Coop - and further down in that same story they have a chart of success rates on different ranges. AJ was just off the damned chart good on them.

20-24: 63.6%
25-29: 55.6%
30-34: 40%
35-39: 85.7%
40+: 57.1%

And that's the major difference, which is what I've been saying the whole time. In fact, it's in my signature. "Complete intermediate and long ball"

Uh, no. I never said that gaining yards and scoring TDs with your feet don't count. I was just under the assumption that this thread was about PASSING.

Since the title of the thread says: "Jalen Hurts vs. LSU: All Passes" and OP's original post said "Threw this together real quick since our passing offense seems to be the main topic of conversation around here."

Sorry, if we were talking about rushing. I missed that.

Or it shows that they have a lot of confidence in him making big plays with his legs. But I'm a "glass-is-half-full" type of guy.

Is it apples to apples? Jalen is in years 1 & 2 in college. AJ was in years 3 & 4.

No, It's not the best comparison. As I mentioned in my previous post. Different styles. But if you are talking about passing while comparing the two. You would have to look at passing only and their first two years starting. I agree AJ had a redshirt and two years in the system before he started.

If we had AJ on this team we would be undefeated and rank #1 in the AP poll all year. Wait......

HUddie. You seem racist towards hurts at this point. And I’m quick to reframe from labeling someone racist these days.

Hurts looks perfect. Remember, he’s 19. And improving.

That's a very strange comment because the last time I checked, Tua has a very similar complexion, as if that matters. Did that not even occur to you?

Please post for me the comment or comments that would lead you to think such a ridiculous thing.

This is some weird shite. Just last year I was railed on a good bit because I thought a racist picture on another Alabama football forum was out of line, but as I explained then, I wouldn't want my sweet little mixed race nieces to see something like that.

A Catch-22 explains Tide's O-Line, passing game issues
quote:

Last Saturday, Alabama encountered one of football's Catch-22 scenarios -- the kind of gridiron paradox that can drive a coach crazy.

As Alabama was working its way toward a 24-10 victory over LSU, the Crimson Tide tried to alleviate the pressure quarterback Jalen Hurts faced and break up the Tigers' eight-man box by completing a series of downfield throws.

But in order to hit those deep shots, Alabama had to find a way to suppress LSU's pass rush, give the receivers time to run extended routes and keep Hurts upright long enough to wind up and deliver the ball.

By and large, Alabama failed to accomplish both of those tasks. Hurts completed only 2 of 6 passes that traveled 20 or more yards in the air last Saturday.

And by the final whistle, he had been pressured 13 times, according to Pro Football Focus.

"We had a couple of occasions where we had guys really open and we got sacked very quickly, where we didn't even have a chance to let the play develop," Alabama coach Nick Saban recalled. "Those are some of the areas that I think we need to definitely improve on."

After watching LSU repeatedly invade the Crimson Tide's backfield, Saban didn't mince words when describing the offensive line's performance.

"We didn't do a good job of blocking them up front," he said.

Asked if Alabama would have been able to mitigate LSU's aggressive tactics had it been able to stretch the field with the passing game, Tide left guard Ross Pierschbacher replied, "I can't say for sure, but I think that definitely would have helped us."

As it turned out, Hurts was sacked four times and the Alabama carried out seven plays that resulted in lost yardage.

According to PFF, Hurts was responsible for three of the 13 pressures he faced. In some cases, he was made more vulnerable to LSU's front because he was looking downfield. Of his 24 pass attempts, 23 crossed the line of scrimmage.

Based on Alabama offensive coordinator Brian Daboll's track record, Hurts became the latest quarterback to be put in the line of fire because of an effort to expand the dimensions of the offense.

In 2011, Daboll held the same position with the Miami Dolphins, the average depth of throw for the quarterbacks was 10.3 yards. The corresponding sack rate was 10.5 percent. Both numbers are pretty high.

Yet this year only 16.6 percent of Hurts' pass attempts have traveled 20 or more yards in the air. That is slightly below the rate of 19 percent he had through 11 games last season.

On his radio show, Saban lamented the fact that Alabama didn't attack LSU more frequently on the perimeter -- implying that he wasn't thrilled with the vertical strategy Daboll employed.

Perhaps that was because of the burden the plan placed on an offensive line that seemed overwhelmed.

Then again, maybe it had to do with the fact Hurts has completed only 24 percent of his attempts beyond 20 air yards this season.

Whatever Saban's rationale is, it's easy to conclude that there is a link between the protection issues the offensive line has experienced and the lack of success in the downfield passing game.

"I think the biggest thing coming down to it, I've always said it, is executing and being able to be efficient," Hurts said.

That's easier said than done when facing a Catch-22.

If I were you I'd walk this back. In 2014 when people stooped to calling anyone who questioned Blake racist, it didn't fly around here. I don't agree with many of Huddie's sentiments, but accusing him of racism over a disagreement about a player's ability is too far.

Exactly. Lot of upside, and he's already good

Welp, after the performance last night( to go along with the LSU game) by Hurts I think it’s time you either show some respect and admit you have no clue about QB development or admit to being a racist towards Hurts.

I know racism is a strong accusation but he seems to have some strong dislike for Hurts that’s uncalled for and it’s to the point there may be more to it. But now he has got to show some damn respect or shut the frick up. Roll Tide #hurts

Same here dude. I’m so proud of him. People forget he is so young and getting better every week. He just shakes off every distraction and keeps getting better. To me that’s one of the most important characteristics of a young QB. Big balls, and he was still calm making those big throws. We prolly drop two games without him this year already.

I think Tua can be great but if it’s not obvious who the guy is right now I’m not sure what to tell these haters. Hope they can learn to enjoy the dude.
