It's my understanding that because the ball landed behind the 10 yard mark that it was a free ball at that point. The second issue is that if Humphrey dropped it and it went out of bounds Clemson would have got the ball at that spot so the catch was everything.
Plus Texas pulled the same stunt on us in the 2009 championship and it worked for them too, just not the same ending result for them. :)

Sorry to hear that. I didn't have one bad encounter with them. My section had some of the most embarrassing Bama fans I've ever seen. Total classless with the cursing and drunken behavior. It was terrible. Several Bama fans were thrown out in the 3rd because they couldn't stand up.
