If you look at the play before his business decision, you can tell -on the QB run- he kept giving up yardage instead of coming up and making the tackle. When the QB runs into him, he whiffs on the tackle.

When I watched the game again, it appears that he was certain the ball was overthrown. He over committed to making it to where he anticipated the ball was heading. That makes a lot more sense than him just trying to avoid contact.

I’m not going to lie that looks almost like point shaving. I’m not saying it is but he inexplicably went out of bounds and took himself out of the play.
