I have seen it listed in several profiles of DB's for the 2023 class. The lowest time listed was 4.48. The highest time listed was 4.6. I tossed the lowest and highest, what remained were 4.5's.

Crazy he looks more physical considering he is only listed at a buck sixty five.

The most recently updated profiles (on Max Prep and Rivals). Max shows him at 6-2 175# and Rivals has him at 6-2 and 170#.

In his films, he likes to bump kids out of bounds when they try to release to the sideline. He looks to be pretty good in press at redirecting. He is very good at hand fighting. As a WR is is a good blocker. He appears to be a good tackler on the edge and blitzing.

A 4.5 is fast enough in our system

The system that kept letting a 4.5-4.6 safety get burned one on one with an elite speed slot receiver with no help? That system? No thanks with the combo zone we run where the inside slot receivers usually attack the nickel corners or safeties I want guys with elite speed

My statement was towards your comment of 4.5 is fast enough for our system. This year alone proved its not. To beat elite athletes you need elite athletes especially when your DC is a dumb arse

We have good enough athletes imo. It was the play calling.

Whatever the 40 times listed on the recruiting sites show, Mcclain and Ricks are both MUCH faster than Hellams. On top of them playing different positions already, their game speed is really no comparison.

I agree I want McClain. My statement was to the original 4.5 is plenty fast enough for our scheme. As long as Frodo Golding is our DC (which he’s gonna be for a while it seems), we need elite athletes to make up for his piss poor scheme.

It's isn't the scheme that is piss poor. It's his play calling.

Think of it like chess.

Other team makes a move. You have the pieces to stop them (in fact you have the advantage) but you're an idiot so sometimes you fail.

Sometimes Pete is playing 4D chess while the OC is playing checkers.

This. Pete may be the brightest defensive mind in a generation for all I know. Saban seems to love him.

But, it's not translating on the field. I'm certain it is developmental for the players, but sometimes wish they'd simplify things and just let the high end talent on the roster attack and make plays.

Saban mentioned at the Sugar Bowl press conference that they only had one Jan visit planned for a HS recruit.

Any idea who it might be?

aIm willing to bet theyve simplified it a lot. I remember Bray Hubbard said Saban wanted him in the secondary so he can help players line up. That was odd to me. Like why are players on the field who dont know where to be

That's always been a duty for the safeties with Saban. I can go back to Ryan Clark and Jack Hunt getting guys lined up.

UA Game: Team Phantom takeaways from Day 1

quote:

Defensive backs hitting the ground running

Not all of the defensive backs got off to a great start on Friday night but a few looked very natural under the lights. Texas signee Malik Muhammad had no problem through the drills portion of practice and he was rarely targeted during team drills. Georgia signee Joenel Aguero was quick to jump route thrown in front of him and was extremely competitive. Desmond Ricks, who reclassified from the 2024 class and signed with Alabama, was very smooth during position drills and used his height and length to deny passes thrown in his directions.

Under Armour Game: Standouts from the opening practice on Friday night

quote:

More notes from Friday

–FSU offensive line signee Lucas Simmons is definitely the tallest player in attendance. That was clear after the two teams huddled up. LSU signee Zalance Heard is another monster. The same could be said about Alabama signees Miles McVay and Olaus Alinen. It was hard to dissect the different offensive line combinations for both squads, but there should be some more clarity Saturday on potential starting fives.

–Unsigned freak Nyckoles Harbor was with the tight ends and wide receivers. He started off strong, but faded a bit down the stretch. Harbor (to little surprise) just moves different than others his size, but he's got to learn the finer points of how to actually play offense at a high level and put himself in position to make plays. Can he consistently create separation against Power Five defenders? We will know Saturday.

–There was no real tackling, but Alabama signee Richard Young flashed on a counter as he beat a defender to the edge and likely would have generated a big game had the rules been different.

–Rohan Davy was a late add for NC State. He's got tweener measruables, but picked off a pass when Team Phantom was in 11-on-11.

-Oregon wide receiver signee Ashton Cozart hauled in a long pass from Arnold. Ohio State wide receiver signee Noah Rogers also made a series of difficult catches look relatively easy.

The 'All-Lobby' group from Under Armour All-America Game check-in

quote:

-Finnish transplant Olaus Alin was spotted hitting his head on a door as he entered the hotel from the pool deck. Yes. The Alabama-bound Top247 offensive lineman is that tall. He also shared his homeland's Christmas delicacies with 247Sports: salmon multiple ways, caviar, deer, pork, potatoes and carrots.

Setting the stage for the All-American Bowl

quote:

Nick Saban’s high-ranked recruiting class ever will be well represented

For the 10th time in the Saban era, Alabama finishes atop the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings, and this 2023 haul is the Crimson Tide’s highest-scoring of the bunch, and second-best class in the 247Sports era going back to 2010, only trailing the group that signed with Texas A&M a cycle ago.

Headlining this Alabama class are three All-Americans in top-ranked edge rusher Keon Keeley (the country’s No. 4 overall recruit in the Top247), the No. 1 offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor (No. 5 in the Top247) and the No. 1 safety in the land and perhaps the best overall high school football player in the country in Caleb Downs (No. 10 in the Top247). Keeley had 37 career sacks including 17 in his final prep season for Tampa (Fla.) Berkeley Prep, Proctor led Des Moines (Iowa) Southeast Polk to another state championship and Downs did everything in taking Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek to the promised land in the Peach State’s largest class, rushing for 20 touchdowns on just 59 carries with three receiving scores, 89 tackles and five interceptions, two he returned for touchdowns. The favorite to win All-American Bowl Player of the Year, Downs had 19 interceptions including seven pick sixes.

Future Alabama running back Justice Haynes is up for All-American Bowl Offensive Player of the Year after the 247Sports Composite five-star rushed for 1,528 yards and 19 touchdowns for Buford (Ga.) High, averaging over 12 yards per carry. He went for 7,407 yards and 91 scores in his prep career.

Eufaula (Ala.) High edge rusher Yhonzae Pierre had a big senior year including 23.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and five forced fumbles. Zachary (Ala.) High quarterback Eli Holstein was selected to play but won’t compete because of injury.

Thinking about attending this year's game seeing as I live here.
