Simmons’ Takeaways: Batman and Robin sighting, five-star undercover
quote:
Any time Loganville (Ga.) Grayson steps onto the field, there is a lot of talent, but when it plays region foe Lawrenceville (Ga.) Archer, it takes it to another level. Last season, the game was a defensive battle that Archer won 6-3, but this year was a little different.
Grayson came out throwing the ball in its 41-14 win. There was plenty of big names between the lines and here are some takeaways from this contest.

QUICK HITS
Duke had a coach on the sideline for much of this game and the Blue Devils must like what they see out of their commit, Jalen Alexander. The cornerback had two interceptions on the night.
Grayson will lose a lot of star power in the 2019 class, but there is more talent on the way. Junior defensive lineman Jadyn Bost already has offers from Boston College, Indiana and Ole Miss among others. Phil Mafah is a 2021 running back that had a few carries in this game and he showed a little burst, power and the ability to fall forward. Clemson, Georgia and Michigan State have already shown interest.
The offensive line unit for Grayson has tackles that are committed to Michigan and Tennessee, but the leader of that group may be center Jakai Clark. The former Auburn commit has added offers from Arizona, Illinois and Louisville in recent weeks.
Alabama commit Kevin Harris is known as a speed rusher and he showed that in this contest. He had numerous pressures in this game and a sack as well. Harris has to have one of the best motors out there.
When watching Clemson commit Jalyn Phillips play, you see some closing speed. On a couple of occasions Thursday night, Phillips looked like he was shot out of a cannon when coming up in run support. That is really his biggest strength.
Jeremiah Smith is a safety with good size and he plays smart. He was taking good angles to the ball, he was a force against the run and the Georgia Tech commit had a solid game on the back-end of the defense.
Auburn commit Colby Wooden was in on his share of plays. He has the frame college coaches love, he played hard all game and he could be a force on the Plains down the road. The combination of size, strength and speed continued to stand out.

Southeast Spotlight: Five prospects on the rise
quote:
Recruiting at the Power Five level slows way down in a prospect’s senior season as most programs are looking to put the finishing touches on their classes with targets already identified. But that doesn’t mean the evaluation process from a rankings perspective stops. Here are five players from the Southeast (outside of Florida) who are on the rise.

Reggie Grimes
The versatile athlete and Alabama legacy is already a Rivals100 prospect, but after watching him play live, it’s clear he should be ranked even higher. Grimes plays both defensive end and running back for his high school team, despite being 6-foot-5 and more than 200 pounds. Most schools view him as a future stand-up outside linebacker and his athleticism will serve him very well at the next level. His all-around versatility shows just how special he is as a player and once his energy is focused on one position, he will likely improve by leaps and bounds.

Harris loves Alabama's 'never satisfied' approach
quote:
Kevin Harris is happy to be an Alabama commit.
The 6-foot-4, 218 pound edge rusher out of Loganville (Ala.) Grayson has been committed to the Crimson Tide since May 1 and he is locked in on the program in Tuscaloosa.
There is still one other school in pursuit, but he is not interested right now. Harris is focused on his team now, then he's only thinking Alabama when looking forward.

IN HIS OWN WORDS
"I have been watching Alabama on TV as much as possible this year and I have seen dominance," said Harris. "I see love seeing the coaching screaming even though the team is blowing people out. I like it. They are never satisfied and I love it. They are always trying to get better regardless of the score.
"I stay in communication with coach Tosh Lupoi. We talk daily. We have more of a friendship relationship, and it has really been that way for a while. They know where I am it with everything. It is great to just talk with him and continue to build on what we have.
"LSU is really the only school recruiting me. They are texting me, sending me mail and all that type of stuff, but I am focused on my team at Grayson and then Alabama. I am not interested in anything else right now.
"Alabama is the place I feel I can grown the most at. I don't want to pass up an opportunity to play at Alabama and the coaching staff they always have. They push their players and I feel they can really develop me. I am going to Alabama focused on working hard and listening to the coaches. I feel they can help me get to the next level."

RIVALS REACTION
Harris is a speed rush end with a motor that doesn't stop. He has gotten stronger, added a little weight and he is playing with more consistency this season. The college game is played fast with all the spread offenses in play and that fits Harris's style. When talking recruiting, he seemed set on being a member of the Crimson Tide. Most schools realize his recruitment is pretty much over, so he does not have too many schools still trying to flip him.

A-List lookahead: Will Clay Webb vs. DJ Dale matchup happen this week?
quote:
Oxford’s Clay Webb and Clay-Chalkville’s DJ Dale rarely meet an opposing lineman with similar size, skill and filthy demeanor.
That's what makes this week's potential matchup so compelling.
Webb missed last week’s game against Shades Valley, but, in an a short interview today as practice was starting, Oxford coach Ryan Herring said his 295-pound 5-star offensive lineman will likely be back Friday. Subsequent efforts to reach Herring to find out why Webb missed last week’s game or other details failed.
Webb’s presence would be welcome against Dale, the 325-pound Alabama commit and Clay-Chalkville defensive lineman, in Friday’s Class 6A, Region 6 matchup in Clay. The winning team likely earns a home game in the first round of the playoffs, while the loser will likely be on the road.
Webb has played all four guard and tackle spots for the Yellow Jackets this season, so -- if he plays -- it's inevitable for him to match up with Dale during the game.

247Sports Composite update: New 4-stars among moves
quote:
As the high school football season winds down, more rounds of rankings updates from the recruiting industry are rolling out and further changing the overall look of the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings.
Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei five-star athlete Bru McCoy broke into the overall top 10 after jumping seven spots to No. 9. The two-way standout has nine touchdown receptions and five sacks through the first seven games of his senior season.
USC holds a commanding lead on the 247Sports Crystal Ball for McCoy with 91 percent of the total predictions, but the two most recent expert predictions have been in favor of the Texas Longhorns.
Three former three-star prospects made a big enough move to earn a fourth star in the 247Sports Composite.
West Virginia safety commit Osita Smith (No. 399 to 324), Arizona State quarterback commit Joey Yellen (434 to 350) and La. cornerback Jordan Clark (407 to 349) moved up into the four-star range of the rankings.
Clark’s Crystal Ball features predictions for Pac-12 programs Cal, Stanford and Arizona State. The latest prediction is in favor of Herm Edwards’ Sun Devils.
Below is a look at more of the players that moved up or down in the 247Sports Composite following the latest updates from the industry.

No. 13 LSU took down No. 2 Georgia on Saturday afternoon in front of several top recruiting targets in the 2019 class.
I was told five-star running back John Emery, an Georgia commit from Destrehan (La.) High was "all smiles" today while on campus and that Alabama Top247 cornerback commit Christian Williams is looking at returning to Baton Rouge again next week for the Mississippi State game. Williams told 247Sports no program is recruiting him harder than the Tigers. Emery is the country's No. 2 running back and has been a verbal to the Bulldogs since July. Williams has been a pledge to the in-state Crimson Tide since April.
One commit said he believed Top247 athlete Devonta Lee was close to committing.

Frankfort (Ky.) Western Hills four-star all-purpose back Wandale Robinson will make his college decision on Nov. 1 and has exhausted all five of his official visits.
But he may not be done making trips.
247Sports is hearing that the dynamic playmaker is torn between Ohio State, Kentucky and Nebraska. He's been to the Buckeyes campus four times including twice this fall, and he's been to the nearby Lexington campus too many times to count. The All-American has only been to Lincoln once but tells 247Sports he's trying to return for either the Minnesota game on Oct. 20 or the Bethune Cookman game on Oct. 27.
Communication with Scott Frost and the Nebraska staff has remained strong since Robinson had an eye-opening official visit the first weekend in September.
247Sports ranks Robinson as the nation's No. 3 all-purpose back.

Five-star 2020 RB Kendall Milton taking his time with top ten
quote:
Clovis (Calif.) Buchanan 2020 running back Kendall Milton is one of the premier prospects in the 2020 class nationally and in late summer, he narrowed his college list to a top ten.
But he's still a long way away from making a decision.
With nearly 40 offers, Milton felt the time was right to start paring the list down.
"Being able to go in to my junior season, I thought I should narrow it down," said Milton. "The amount of contact towards me, I wanted to narrow it down a bit and focus on playing with my brothers and winning a Valley ring.
The No. 2 running back nationally in the 2020 class named a top ten of Alabama, Florida State, Fresno State, Georgia, Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Texas and USC.
Milton broke down each of his schools for 247.
Alabama: "Coach Tosh Lupoi is recruiting me and he's a great coach, he recruits me every day. My head coach (Matt Giordano) actually played with Coach Lupoi at Cal and he has nothing but good things to say about him. I'll be taking a visit down there after the season."
Florida State: "Coach (Donte) Pimpleton and Coach (Willie) Taggart are recruiting me and the whole coaching staff is great. I was able to take a visit down there and the staff has great energy and they love football.
Fresno State: "Coach (Jamie) Christian is recruiting me and Fresno State has always had that love for me. Being the hometown school and seeing what Coach (Jeff) Tedford is doing there. I talk to my brother (Ka'Lonn Milton, a Fresno State DB) all the time about them and they have a totally different mindset than the previous staff.
Georgia: "Coach (Dell) McGee is a great coach and he texts me tips about my game and gives me pointers. He's not my current coach but he could be my future coach and he's helping me with my game already right now."
Miami: "Coach (Thomas) Brown, the last time I talked to him, he just had a great energy. He has a great faith and believes in Christ and he loves football and that's very big for me."
Ohio State: "Coach (Urban) Meyer and Coach (Tony) Alford, those are two great coaches. They text me every day. It's not just all football conversations, they ask me about life. And they've had great running backs. Coach Mark Pantoni sent me a picture of Ezekiel Elliott when he was younger and they were recruiting him and he's a player I watch a lot of."
Oklahoma: "Coach (Jay) Boulware and Coach (Lincoln) Riley, I talk to them all the time and I like them. And they also have Chip Viney, he's a Fresno guy over there and we have that Fresno connection and we formed the relationship when he was here."
Penn State: "The whole coaching staff, Coach (Ja'Juan) Seider and Coach (James) Franklin have been recruiting me hard. I've Facetimed with Coach Franklin and he has great energetic coaches who love football."
Texas: "The whole coaching staff there is great, Coach (Stan) Drayton is recruiting me and Coach Tom Herman, every time I talk to them, they show me love. They want me there and they said they don't just want me, they need me. With the running back roster they're building, they have scat backs but I'm that balanced back they're looking for."
USC: "The whole staff, once again, is recruiting me. Coach (Clay) Helton, Coach KC (Keary Colbert), they text me quite a bit that they'd love me there, and they just want me on their roster. They said they need me at USC as a Trojan."
Milton has visited USC, Florida State and Fresno State and said he'll worry about trimming his list after the season.
"I think after I take all of my unofficial visits after the season, I'll trim my list and then narrow it down to my top five and those will be the schools I take my official visits to," said Milton.
Milton said that even though he has a top ten, it's not a final ten and schools that haven't offered could crack the list.
"There could definitely be schools that get on it," said Milton. "Like Clemson has been talking to me and I've been waiting on that offer, so an offer from them, from a school from a big football town, could get them in."
Milton said he's likely to take his official visits in the spring.
"I'll probably do spring visits because that's the chance I get the most free time," said Milton. "I will graduate early, sign in December. So right now, the plan is to make the decision in the summer. But I'm going to wait to see which school feels right."
A five-star in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings, Milton is the No. 2 running back nationally in the 2020 class and the No. 4 player in the state of California.
