ANTONIO ALFANO, DL, COLONIA (N.J.) HIGH
Antonio Alfano, who is committed to Alabama and is the No. 3 strongside defensive end in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, is a weekly focal point of opposing offenses. Even as play after play is designed to go away from Alfano, he is impactful in fighting through double teams and chasing down plays. He is quick, strong, athletic and explosive. Against South Plainfield (N.J.) High, he made eight tackles and was a dominant offensive tackle. At 6-foot-4, 285 pounds, Alfano is nearly impossible to block Alfano 1-on-1 at the high school level.

DEMARCCO HELLAMS, S, HYATTSVILLE (MD.) DEMATHA
DeMarcco Hellams is the No. 8 safety in the 247Sports Composite, and the Alabama showed off his talent in a big way …and it was the most impressive showing I’ve seen this season. He was physical on defense in coverage and in run support. He ran well, jammed at the line of scrimmage when he was at cornerback or in man-to-man coverage and showed he could open his hips to turn and run with receivers. For good measure, he was in for a few offensive plays and caught three touchdowns. Anyone who had concern about him being able to play in the defensive backfield for the Crimson Tide ended on that rainy evening.

JOHN METCHIE, WR, HIGHTSTOWN (N.J.) PEDDIE
After watching Alabama commit John Metchie face Virginia Beach (Va.) Bishop Sullivan, it is clear he can play safety or receiver in college. He is best suited to play receiver, which is why he is the No. 41 receiver in the 247Sports Composite, and his route running and ball skills stood out when I saw him play. He attacks the football, has strong hands and he able to put the ball away quickly. He is a strong runner after the catch and he has the ability to accelerate to pierce a defense.

Simmons Road Show: Cruising through Mississippi

I haven’t been back into Mississippi since May, so I was able to spend some time there the second half of last week. I attended three high school football games, I made stops at close to 20 high schools and I saw a lot of the top talent in the Magnolia State.
Here are some of the things I liked this trip.

The size of freshman lineman Jehiem Oatis
I have been hearing about Jehiem Oatis for over a year now. He camped at Alabama in the summer before his eighth grade year and was offered by Nick Saban. That is when I first heard about him.
The Crimson Tide were not first to offer him though. Going into that camp, the freshman at Columbia (Miss.) already had offers from Mississippi State and Ole Miss. The Alabama news just got out there and drew attention to him.
In the summer of 2018, before he started high school, Oatis camped at Georgia, LSU and Tennessee. Each school offered him.
I laid eyes on the young man and I can see why all six SEC schools offered. Oatis is only a freshman, but he is every bit of 6-feet 5-inches tall and he is a solid 320 pounds. It is not a sloppy 320 pounds, but he is a strong and carries that weight extremely well.
Oatis may be the most impressive freshman I have laid my eyes on from a frame standpoint. He has long arms, he has massive hands, he wears a size 16 shoe and he could be a national name in the 2022 class. He is playing defensive end and tight end this season, but will likely be recruited to play defensive tackle down the road.

Noa Pola-Gates, Jeffery Carter and Jordan Battle.Carter is committed to Texas A&M and Battle to Ohio State. Both expect to make it to Bama sometime this season. Pola-Gates has Alabama at the top of his list. He expects to take his official visit for the Iron Bowl.
Akeem Dent and Marcus Banks are also held in high regard by the Alabama. Dent plans on taking an official visit to Alabama. He is committed to Florida State, but will it last? Banks is committed to LSU. He visited Alabama a few weeks ago. Alabama DBs coach Karl Scott went to see him play on Friday night. So it's definitely getting a little bit more interesting at the overall DB position. Is Alabama considering two more? I don't know if that will happen, but you can certainly expect at least one more DB and it will come from the group of players mentioned.

How Jackson played the game
McKinnley Jackson is a marked man. The 2020 five-star defensive lineman out of Lucedale (Miss.) George County faced regular double teams and some triple teams Saturday on a very hot afternoon, yet still had a major effect.
What I liked most was his effort. Yes, it was hot, so yes, he had to come out and take a few breaks to recharge the battery, but when he was fresh, he was very active. He was chasing the ball down from the backside, he was collapsing the pocket on a regular basis and he showed great power.
It is easy to see why Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and many others want him in their 2020 class. He is a force in the middle. He is tough to move, he really gave it his all and his performance was impressive.

Cassidy Road Show: Observations, updates from Jacksonville

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – 2020 5-star CB Fred Davis is frustrated.
The angst isn’t the product of poor play or brought on by any sort of actual adversity. Instead, it’s caused by the fact that he often finds himself bored on Friday nights. The five-star cornerback’s reputation seems to have a way of preceding him. The ball was thrown in his direction just once (an incomplete pass) in his Trinity Christian team’s win over Oakleaf on Friday. And, according to Davis, that’s been the trend.
What’s not boring, however, is the Jacksonville-area star’s recruitment.
“I’m talking to a lot of schools the most,” Davis said following his team’s 51-22 victory. “It’s probably Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Florida State, LSU. It’s pretty much all the big schools recruiting me heavy. Miami is another one.”
A class of 2020 prospect, Davis visited both Florida and Miami recently but names no favorite in the process as things stand now, calling it “too early to tell.”
Still, the junior doesn’t mind talking about the coaches to whom he feels close. Asked to name the recruiters he’s formed the closest bonds with, Davis rattles off a short list of names. “Coach [Corey] Raymond from LSU,” he said. “From Florida, Charlton Warren. From Miami, it’s a few. It’s Mike Rumph and coach Mark Richt and Todd Hartley. Ohio State, it’s mostly Urban Meyer. He’s doing a lot of recruiting for them, which is cool.”
Davis has set no timetable for a decision but will likely trim his list following his junior season.
