Question for the board. If Kaho comes to Bama, does he count toward the '18 class? If so, does that mean we get one less in'19"

TideSaint answered, but I wanna elaborate some. Spending that 2018 class spot on Brandon Kaho is a great move. Getting a stud ILB like him in the program this fall is way better than spending it on another 2019 ILB recruit. We have Shane Lee coming, plus Mwikuta plays both OLB & ILB. So if we get Kaho, we'll be in pretty good shape at ILB.
Obviously we want to get another great ILB like Nakobe Dean or Henry To'oto'o, but with Kaho in the house, it won't be nearly as bad if we miss on them. We could take Diabate or Devonta Lee (who need more development) and still be a'ight with our ILB depth for 2019.

Blair Angulo: "I'm told by a reliable source there's "a 90% chance" Alabama is the next destination for former five-star Brandon "Ale" Kaho...intends to finalize his decision in the next 24-48 hours..."

If you would have told me on signing day last year that we would later add to the class a run stuffing DT/NG, a scrappy QB with a high floor and a five star ILB I would have drank less.

Kaho would bump the 2018 class up to #5 overall.

Redfish has mentioned on the radio since back when we were recruiting Kaho last Fall that Bama's staff viewed him as a future 1st round draft pick. Every year, they try to sign 3-4 that they feel like fit that description. The 2017 class was said to have potentially 7 or more (which is just an absolutely ridiculously absurd number).

And people were curious why recruiting fell off last year... We got Anoma, Surtain, Waddle, and Jobe locked in, and we were all out of available future first round pick recruits. We need to end the 3-4 max future first rounder philosophy!!

Straight from one of the coaches.. I think it’s just a post visit high.. only thing that bothered me was the relationship him and Cam have delveloped. Also that the school blew him away with the visit. He said he hasn’t talked much about the other visits.. just the FSU one. Even was doing the chop during practice after some good plays. I’m not going to put much into it until mid to late season. But FSU went from just a fun visit to a major threat.

Brandon Kaho's rankings:
247: 5*, #1 ILB, #21 player
Rivals: 4*, #8 OLB, #82 player
ESPN: 3*, #47 OLB, not in ESPN 300
Composite: 4*, #7 ILB, #133-player
ESPN was clueless about Kaho. Smh.

So what’s the thought if Kaho signs with Bama, does that change any current, or possible commits decision based on him being there?

I doubt it will affect Shane Lee, King Mwikuta or Nakobe Dean. They have all said they're not concerned about tough competition for playing time; they expect that at any top tier program.

Just to add.. the reason I’m not worried is if his hand is Bama he won’t tip it until late. As much as I hate it.. it’s considered not cool to go to Bama in the state of Mississippi. I hear it from my kids all the time. He will catch some unwanted hell during the season if he announced now. (Jealous fans)That’s why it’s hard to pull Mississippi kids. State and Ole miss can’t stand Bama, so their fans chime in, and their is a lot of LSU fans in Mississppi too. Just the lay of the land here. I think he is smart enough to know Bama can develope him though.

3-4 is said to be about the minimum number they think we need to sign in order to sustain the success. I never heard the entire list of 2018 guys that they thought were potential 1st rounders down the road. But we could kind of guess.
Anoma
Surtain
Jobe
Barmore (was the #1 DT in the country on a lot of teams' boards by NSD)
Waddle (unless size prohibits)
Looking at it like that makes this past class look a lot better. And adding Kaho to it would be tremendous.

Demographics are a really odd thing sometimes. While Eastern MS has a ton of Bama fans, you'd think the whole state would have a lot of them due to success and proximity. Whereas Southern Tennessee (a good bit longer from Tuscaloosa than most of MS is), in the same state as one of the top 10 programs of all time (utk) is absolutely covered up with Bama fans. The Florida panhandle, in the same state as 3 historically top 20 programs, is covered up with Bama fans (and 7SU). MS is such a strange football state.

Also don’t count out Jalyn Armour-Davis who has been getting rave reviews since stepping on campus. He’s always been overlooked since Surtain and Jobe were higher profile gets but JAD can really play. I’m very excited about the potential of this young secondary.
