LINK ]Five 2020 recruits that could help Alabama sign the No. 1 class (BamaOnLine)
quote:
While it’s early, Alabama’s 2020 class looks to be on the trajectory of another No. 1-ranked finish. Currently, the Crimson Tide’s class sits at No. 3, according to the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings, with a score of 76.75.
Making up the top-5 class are four-star cornerback Javier Morton, four-star wide receiver Dazalin Worsham, and four-star inside linebacker Jackson Bratton. The Tide will be aided by another strong year in the state of Alabama. Two of the three commitments are in-state guys, Bratton from Muscle Shoals and Worsham from Hewitt-Trussville.
The class overall looks is a strong one. Here’s what 247Sports Director of Scouting Barton Simmons said about it earlier this year: “Already this class looks special. In our initial Top247 release, we’ve dubbed six prospects as five-stars. That’s as many five-star prospects at this stage as have been named in the class of 2019 to date.”
The two teams currently ahead of the Tide are Miami at No. 1 with a score of 134.67 and Oklahoma sitting with 77.75 points. Alabama’s per commitment rating is .9584, which is good for No. 2 in the nation of any program with more than one commitment.
We’ve seen a number of new offers go out this spring as the Alabama staff has scoured the country, and we’ll continue to see this happen during camp season in Tuscaloosa this month and beyond.
While it may seem too early to be talking about 2020 recruits, with the expedited recruiting calendar, we’re not far from this cycle being the main talking point. Here’s a look at five recruits that will help the Tide secure yet another No. 1 ranking — something it looks well on its way to doing in 2019.

Jayson Jones, 4-star DT, Calera (AL)
![]()
Height/Weight: 6-foot-5, 322 pounds
Player rating: No. 5 DT, No. 29 overall
Crystal Ball: 100 percent to Alabama
The base of a strong recruiting class is a strong in-state haul. The Tide already holds commitments from two of the state’s best in Worsham and Bratton. Landing a commitment from Jones would give the Tide the No. 1 in-state prospect in the cycle.
Jones has named the Tide his favorite ahead of a July 4 commitment. Georgia and Mississippi State are the other top contenders, although he recently camped at LSU and has interest from a number of heavyweight programs. The Calera (Ala.) product has a great chance to end up a five-star prospect should he continue at the rate he’s on.

Kendall Milton, 4-star RB, Clovis (CA)

Height/Weight: 6-foot-2, 210 pounds
Player rating: No. 2 RB, No. 9 overall
Crystal Ball: 75% USC, 25% Alabama
Alabama is also in on the No. 1 running back in the class in five-star Zachary Evans. Although he seems to be favoriting Texas and Texas A&M as it stands. Milton, the No. 2 ball carrier in the country, has pointed to his relationship with Najee Harris as a major selling point for the Crimson Tide.
“A lot of people say that Bama is just football, football, football and you can’t have a social life,” Milton said of what Harris has told him about the Tide. “He’s been able to experience the social life of college. He said don’t believe the rumors and go where you feel is best for you.”
Milton’s head coach also played football with Tosh Lupoi, so there is more than one preexisting relationship working in Bama’s favor here. Milton had hoped to get back to Tuscaloosa this summer but with the July Dead Period, he won’t have the opportunity to make the trip.

McKinnley Jackson, 4*DT, Lucedale, MS
![]()
Height/Weight: 6-foot-1.5, 324 pounds
Player rating: No. 1 DT, No. 15 overall
Crystal Ball: 100 percent to LSU
Jackson will certainly make his case for a fifth star as time goes on. He’s one of the most dominant defensive linemen in America. The one-time LSU commit backed off the pledge to the Tigers earlier this year.
Jackson spent time in Tuscaloosa last weekend — a repeat visit this year — and is a priority target for the Alabama staff in the cycle. The Magnolia State native doesn’t look to be in any hurry to make another commitment at this point.

Chris Braswell, 4* WDE, Baltimore, MD
![]()
Height/Weight: 6-foot-3, 211 pounds
Player rating: No. 1 WDE, No. 12 overall
Crystal Ball: 100 percent to Alabama
Alabama has landed St. Frances Academy’s top prospects two years in a row now. Five-star edge rusher Eyabi Anoma signed with the Tide in 2018 and four-star inside ‘backer Shane Lee is committed in the 2019 class.
Could Braswell follow in their footsteps? It’s possible. He says the three have talked about it. Alabama offensive coordinator Mike Locksley’s ties to the area will undoubtedly play a big role here as they did for both Anoma and Lee.

Paris Johnson, 4-star OT, Cincinnati, OH
![]()
Height/Weight: 6-foot-7, 275 pounds
Player rating: No. 1 OT, No. 7 overall
Crystal Ball: 50% Ohio St, 30% Michigan State, 10% Stanford, 10% Notre Dame
As his 247Sports Crystal Ball would indicate, a lot of teams are in on the nation’s top offensive lineman, Alabama included. The Tide got Johnson and his mother back on campus last weekend for an unofficial visit and didn’t disappoint. "I was impressed most by their staff both coaching and strength and conditioning," Johnson said.
The trip to Tuscaloosa is one of a number of trips Johnson is making. He’s since been on campus at Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, and Clemson. He has trips planned to USC, UCLA, Stanford and Cal later this month.

He strikes me as the type that has a difficult time adding weight and keeping it on. I have a feeling that the heat and humidity down here is going to screw with him.

If he's an OLB, he could be benching 500 and not be playing this year with what we have coming back at that position. Anoma may be the top player signed by anyone in the 2018 class, and I'm not sure if he'll play all that much. Lewis, Jennings, Miller, Allen. Have mercy.

LINK ]Pair of Alabama assistants attending Houston satellite camp (BamaOnLine)
quote:
Two of Alabama’s newest assistant coaches are in Texas today for the Houston Cougar Football Mini Camp III. Jeff Banks and Josh Gattis both tweeted before taking off from Tuscaloosa.
The Crimson Tide will be one of several Power 5 teams represented at Houston’s satellite camp, along with Georgia, Ohio State and Texas. They will serve as guest coaches alongside the Cougars’ staff. Per the camp website, participants will be able to focus on sharpening the skills of their individual positions, while learning the fundamentals and techniques of football.
Alabama has had some success recruiting the state of Texas, including the Houston area, in the past. Junior quarterback Jalen Hurts is a native of Houston, and in the most recent cycle, UA signed 4-star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, the No. 5 wideout in the 2018 class according to the 247Sports Composite.

Head coach Nick Saban said this of Waddle after signing day. “Jaylen is an outstanding young man. I mean really a good person,” Saban said. “We had him in a camp last summer, and we’ve recruited him for a long time. He’s got great quickness, change of direction and run after catch. Really an outstanding overall receiver, but would work really well for us in the slot. Has really good run after catch, speed sweep type of ability. … We’re excited about him because great quickness, great change of direction, really really hard to cover, and a great person.”
There are several prospects the Alabama coaches like from the Houston area, including 2019 OT Javonne Shepherd, 2020 WR Demond Demas, 2019 CB Marcus Banks, 2019 CB Erick Young, 2020 RB Zach Evans and 2019 RB Deondrick Glass, to name a few.
June will be a busy month for the staff. All of UA’s camps will be condensed into the first 25 days of the month, as June 25 through July 24 is considered a dead period. That prohibits face-to-face contact between coaches and recruits, regardless of the location. The Tide has already been present at satellite camps at Florida International and Florida Atlantic.

Back in 2016, Saban voiced displeasure with the idea of these satellite camps. “I mean, this is the Wild Wild West at its best,” Saban said in 2016. “There’s been no specific guidelines relative to how we’re managing and controlling this stuff. It’s happening outside our normal evaluation window, which means we’re taking time away from our players.
“I don’t know how much it benefits anybody, aight. Because all the people that say this is creating opportunities for kids, this is all about recruiting. That’s what it’s about, aight. … And what’s amazing to me is somebody didn’t stand up and say, ‘Here’s gonna be the unintended consequences of what y’all are doing.’”
Last spring, the NCAA adjusted the rules involving satellite camps requiring camps to take place on college campuses or spaces that are used by member institutions. The new rules that went into effect last year also allow coaches participating at the camp to have recruiting conversations with prospective student-athletes. With the new rules in place, we've seen the Tide staff take a different approach to camps outside of Tuscaloosa.
It should be noted that Alabama is also holding a one-day OL/DL camp in Tuscaloosa today.
