Auburn in top 2 for 4-star DE, Mississippi State commit Charles Moore
Everyone keeps saying if we offer Moore we'll be right in the thick of things for him, but we still haven't offered.
quote:
It's a two-horse race for Charles Moore.
The four-star defensive end out of Louisville, Mississippi is committed to Mississippi State but Auburn is neck-and-neck for the 2019 prospect.
"I'm still committed (to MSU) right now," Moore said after visiting Auburn for Big Cat Weekend. "Even with me being committed, Auburn is right there tit-for-tat with Mississippi State right now."
Moore, the No. 91 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite, is also considering LSU, Tennessee and Georgia but his top two are ahead.
He said choosing to leave Mississippi would not be an issue if he chose to do so and his father is from Chicago and mother is from East St. Louis.
"I like to travel," Moore said. "Getting me out of Mississippi, that won't be a big issue. It's just what do you have at your school that will attract me out of Mississippi?"
Moore, who is coming off a torn ACL, told Auburn's coaches he'd visit for Big Cat Weekend months ago and fellow four-star defensive end and close friend Jaren Handy also made the trip. They've discussed playing together in college.
"If I come here, it's a 10 out of 10 chance that you'll see Jaren beside me," Moore said. "Here over the last couple of months me and Jaren we've grown real close. He's almost like a brother to me. ... Me and Jaren coming here this weekend, we enjoyed ourselves, visualizing ourselves in the uniform out on the field before the game, being on campus, coming up just being in Auburn."
Everyone keeps saying if we offer Moore we'll be right in the thick of things for him, but we still haven't offered.

From Rusty Mansell:

UGA staff was aware that Trezmen Marshall was going to be at Auburn and Alabama over the next few days I am told. Right now I have not heard anything that tells me he does not end up at UGA but he is going to take visits.

FWIW, Nadab Joseph still hasn't qualified yet. The Georgia 247 site is saying he is trying to make it in by late Summer.

REDONDO BEACH, Calif. — SEC Country is in California for the Elite 11 Finals, where several high school quarterbacks hope to get an invite to The Opening Finals in Frisco, Texas, later in June.
Alabama quarterback commits Taulia Tagovailoa and Paul Tyson, along with current Crimson Tide quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts, are competing in the event.

Keon Zipperer
Zipperer is the No. 3 ranked tight end in the nation. He already possesses great size and athleticism to play tight end at the next level. Florida and Miami had looked like they were the leaders for the Florida-native, but according to a recent tweet by Zipper, he will leave the state of Florida to go to college.

My quick-take analysis on Taulia Tagovailoa:
There aren’t many quarterbacks in the 2019 class that have as strong of an arm as Tagovailoa. I also like that he gets the ball out of his hand quickly, something a lot of Elite 11 counselors mentioned throughout the day. One counselor actually said he believed Taulia had a quicker release than his older brother.
Though Tagovailoa is short for a quarterback at 5-foot-11, he can make throws to all parts of the field.

REDONDO BEACH, Calif. — SEC Country is in California for the Elite 11 Finals, where several high school quarterbacks hope to get an invite to The Opening Finals held in Frisco, Texas, later this month.
Alabama quarterback commitments Taulia Tagovailoa (Alabaster, Ala., Thompson High School) and Paul Tyson, along with current Crimson Tide quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts, are taking part in the event.
Tyson, who is plays for Trussville, Ala., Hewitt-Trussville, didn’t look his sharpest on Friday during the workout portion of the event. He had several good throws but was inconsistent. He has the prototypical size wanted of quarterbacks, but I would like to see more out of him in the next two days of the event.

But I was a terrible person carrying on that diatribe.

I think Bama's staff wants him to come camp, so they can evaluate him well, post-injury. Based on things he's said about what a Bama offer would mean to his recruitment, I expect that he'll want to do what it takes to get an offer.

Recruiting insider: Notes, intel from Big Cat Weekend at Auburn
quote:
4-star DE Jaren Handy, Meridian, Miss.
- Jaren Handy had a slightly different visit than most. He and his family came up on Thursday and stayed through the Big Cat Weekend festivities, so he got much more time with Auburn coaches than most. Handy preached how important it was for him to make a multiday trip after the in-and-out visit last time.
- He said he spent a lot of time with defensive lineman Marlon Davidson, who he referred to as his “big brother.” When he wasn’t spending time with Davidson or Charles Moore, Handy was with defensive line coach Rodney Garner.
- Handy raves about the way Garner treats his players. The word he uses to describe it: “real.” Garner hasn’t told Handy he’ll come in and play right away. He hasn’t given him the typical recruiting pitches he hears from other schools. Garner is a no-nonsense guy as an on-field coach, and that carries over to recruiting. Handy said he knows when Garner tells him something, it’s how he feels and not something he’s saying simply to satisfy a recruit.
- Handy called Auburn his top school after the first visit he took this spring. He doesn’t want to name leaders after visits anymore, but he made it clear the Tigers are firmly a part of the top group.
- He wouldn’t say 10 out of 10, like Moore, but Handy said it’s “most likely” he and his close friend from Mississippi play together.

4-star DL Charles Moore, Louisville, Miss. (Miss. State)
- This is a return trip for the Mississippi State commit, whose father recently moved to Opelika, Ala., for work. That has given Moore multiple opportunities to visit Auburn, and that will continue.
- Moore remains committed to Mississippi State, but he admits Auburn has pulled neck-and-neck with the Bulldogs. He likely won’t change anything with his commitment until after his senior season — as close to signing day as possible — but there’s no denying Auburn is as much of a factor here as Mississippi State.
- Moore gave a little insight into his growing interest in Auburn. After his ACL injury last year, Garner was one of the coaches who stuck with him most throughout the healing process. Garner made a major impression on him during that trying time.
- He has a close relationship with Handy. Moore had this to say when asked if they want to play together at the next level: “If I come to Auburn, it’s a 10 out of 10 chance you’ll see Jaren beside me.”

quote:
4-star LB King Mwikuta, Lagrange, Ga. (Alabama)
- The Alabama commit, who has been recruited by Auburn since middle school, made it back to Auburn for the first time this spring. He was accompanied by a high school coach and his 2020 teammate Kobe Hudson. King Mwikuta was one of the biggest surprise visitors on the day.
- With that said, don’t expect Mwikuta to sign anywhere other than Alabama. He has been open with Auburn coaches that his recruitment is virtually shut down. Mwikuta said the relationship between himself and Auburn remains strong, and he’s too good of a player for the Tigers to give up on even though they know chances are slim.
- If Mwikuta does take fall official visits, Auburn isn’t likely to receive one. Alabama, Miami and TCU (family member plays there) are the schools he will consider visiting officially.

LSU recruiting notes from lineman camp
quote:
BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU hosted its first of six on-campus prospect camps of the summer on Saturday as several of the state’s and region’s top offensive and defensive linemen flooded into town to compete in front of the staff.
That impressive group included a handful of 5-star prospects, most notably Kardell Thomas and Clay Webb, the No. 1-ranked guard and No. 1-ranked center in the Class of 2019. Thomas, a solid LSU commit, was joined by fellow commits Joseph Evans and Thomas Perry. Other names to know include 2020 offer Jacobian Guillory (Alexandria, La.); 2019 Southern Lab (La.) athlete Tyler Guidry, who worked out as a wide-9 edge rusher; 3-star Tennessee defensive lineman Kristian Williams; 3-star Alabama edge rusher target Brandon Mack and 2019 Alabama tackle Brevyn Jones, who has previously visited for a junior day in the spring.
Here are some notes to pass along from the session:

quote:
Webb lived up to his top ranking. He also saw action at guard and drew the full attention of LSU offensive line coach James Cregg. Webb showed up with his mother for the morning session and dominated reps along the interior line. This was Webb’s first visit to Baton Rouge, and he has been heavily linked to Alabama. However, area recruiter Tommie Robinson and Cregg worked feverishly to lure the 5-star lineman to campus, so this visit loomed large. Webb won the majority of his reps and looked the part. He’s technically sound and very powerful. The biggest issue is whether LSU could gain ground on the Tide.

quote:
Evans made his return to LSU and impressed with his size and performance in 1-on-1s. The longtime defensive line pledge showed up close to 6-foot-3 and around 300 pounds. He won a couple of reps against Webb, and those victories do not come easy. Johnson spent a good chunk of time coaching up Evans, which showed up in the drills. He was fluid and extremely powerful, and it’s clear to see what the LSU staff likes in him. Evans visited Alabama earlier in the spring, but no offer was extended. A return to Baton Rouge is a very good sign that the Haynesville (La.) High product is Baton Rouge-bound.

One of the more anticipated visitors was Mack, who came in from Montgomery, Ala. A long, lean edge rusher, Mack fits the bill as a Bench linebacker in LSU’s 3-4 scheme. It’s clear why he models his game after former Tigers standout Arden Key. Mack drew a lot of attention from Orgeron during positional workouts and flaunted his explosiveness and quickness. He turned in a solid performance during 1-on-1s, often showing his speed around the edge while lined up as a wide-9 end. It’ll be interesting to know if this visit will result in a commitment after he publicly named the Tigers as his leader over the spring.
Brandon Mack Highlights
ETA: This kid has some nice Junior film.
