I'm tired of sucking it up
I don't like pain meds, I hate going to the doc so I was trying the easiest way
My right shoulder is shite, my right elbow sucks, my knees suck and my lower back is a disaster.
I need a drink
I need a drink

I'm not supposed to take any pain relievers (or drink much), because I have too much "white matter" (dead brain tissue spots) from childhood encephalitis plus some pretty bad concussions.
Drink lots of pure water. Google and educate yourself on naturally anti-inflamatory foods and supplements as well as inflamatory foods to avoid. Stretch regularly, especially before exercising. Doing all of that together makes a YUGE difference.

I'm 54 and have owned a roofing company for going on 35 years. Had back surgery and lost myself in pain pills six years ago. Never again. I smoke a tiny arse joint every evening and it does the job.

What kind of injury do you have?

Stretch regularly,
I really believe this is part of my problem. When I was young and playing all kinds of sports, I refused to stretch. I hated it. I was young and stubborn as hell and I think it messed me up. My shoulder got dislocated by my dad when I was around 3, so it's always been bad.

Roofing is rough. I don't know how you've been in the business that long. It's brutal

Well it got dislocated when I was really young and it's never been "right". I don't know what's wrong with it but I'll tell you the symptoms. It's loose, I can basically dislocate it whenever I want. It hurts like hell to raise my arm up. I can get it straight out in front of me with minimal pain but higher than that feels like I'm getting stabbed.

Go to Dr. Andrews clinic and let them determine what's up with it. They may be able to clean up and tighten up the loose joint via minimally invasive scope surgery. One of my sons had that done. He's thrilled with the results. If/when you go under the knife always get a top notch surgeon to do it.

I dread that kind of stuff. I went to rehab for it like 10 years ago or more and that sure didn't help.

It's torn up some and needs to be repaired. Like I said though, go to Dr Andrews clinic. All the surgeons there are great!
I went Andrews' place in Gulf Breeze for my hip. It had to have a bionic joint replacement. They don't do hip replacements, but they hooked me up with the best guy in the FL panhandle area.
It's a MAJOR invasive surgery. It must be done very carefully and precisely. One year to fully recover and rehab.

I have two bad ankles, two bad knees, and a bad back from ligament tears and multiple jumps/landings. I suffered for about 4-5 years before I went and got 2 opinions on what I should do. I currently take painkillers (5mg) and I am very careful and how I take them...too many horror stories on people getting messed up on those.
If I ever think I need stronger than the 5mg pills I take, i'm moving my arse to CO and lighting up!

Damn, we are a bunch of busted up folks
Just hearing all the stuff that other people have that's screwed up, is making me feel better

How did you mess it up? i sure as hell hope that I avoid any hip problems. Those surgeries and rehab are horrible.

Just been skimming through this last page lol if any of you guys have questions I've worked in Orthopedic surgery and seen every kind of ortho surgery imaginable. If y'all have any questions feel free to ask.
Me personally, I've dislocated my shoulder and my ankle is really messed up. I actually fractured my fibula and didn't know it (thought it was a high ankle sprain) and long story short, I'll eventually have to have reconstructive surgery which is a major surgery. Foot/ankle hurt like hell and I'm only 27

Not sure. I put the replacement surgery off 10 years longer than I should've, not only regarding pain but also doing further damage. By then it was so deteriorated it was hard for him to tell.
Sometimes it's caused by an injury like football or skiing that damages the blood vessels that nuture the joint and it slowly deteriorates over several decades. There was sort of a "knuckle" bump on the femur ball that might've been the culprit that caused the cartilage to eventually get a hole worn through it prematurely. Once it's bone grinding on bone it goes to shite.
I lived with increasingly bad hip joint pain for about 15 years. But the upside was they greatly improved the prosthetics and surgery expertise during that time. The surgery aftermath and rehab was no picnic though.
