We got another CB for Alfano !!!!

It's from a "Penn State Insider"

ETA: Antonio Alfano's HS coach: "The family made visits to the schools and they met with everybody and the decision he is making, he is very satisfied. Looking at him, he has been much more relieved. He is happy with his decision. His family is happy with it and it's time to get ready to play football."

DeMarvin Leal, a 4-star #4-ranked DT(/SDE) who committed to ATM last month, will take an official visit to Bama on June 15. He took an official visit to Texas last weekend. We had him on our Top Targets list a while back.

DL in recruiting is so stacked this year, he’s another whose film is really good. If we get who we want this year I think they will have to talk Cheney to look around. I just think other guys look better on film. Just my opnion

A reliable BOL insider said Rashad Cheney's spot is secure, unless he starts looking around and taking visits elsewhere. Cheney said he's done with his own recruitment and wants to help recruit for Bama. But, if Alfano, Pickering, Young, Sopsher (maybe Tuitele or Leal too) committed to Bama, Cheney might decide to look around. Others might come after him then too. We'll see.

You think Handy is still in that group? Or has he fallen a bit?

It seems safe to assume Sopsher, Tuitele and Pickering are definite takes. I think it'll be pretty hard for anyone to beat out Bama for Sopsher, Pickering and Young. That might be true for Handy too, if Bama pushes hard for him. But I'm fairly worried Tuitele might opt for USCw. I think Young is higher on the board than Handy, but I'm just reading the tea leaves. Young, Handy, Leal and Eboigbe are all excellent DL prospects, imo.

LINK ]How Alabama can gain advantage for nation’s top DT (SEC Country)

Rodney Sopsher Jr. (left) and his brother, Ishmael, a 5-star DT, would like to attend the same college.
quote:

Alabama finished seventh in the 2018 class recruiting rankings, but expect the Crimson Tide to be back on top in 2019. SEC Country’s Chris Kirschner will answer the Recruiting Question of the Day each weekday. You can ask him your questions on  Twitter or on  Facebook. Find our previous questions and answers  here.

I would say whichever of the two offer his brother out of juco first will probably have the inside track. -- Jack Kelly

We’ve written quite a bit about Ishmael Sopsher on SEC Country in the past few weeks, and we’re going to continue to do so until he makes his decision on National Signing Day. Sopsher is the nation’s No. 1 defensive tackle, and the Amite (La.) High School player is a major Alabama target.

Jack brings up a good point here with Sopsher’s recruitment. Sopsher’s older brother, Rodney Sopsher Jr., attends Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit, Miss. Rodney was getting looks from colleges last year but battled injuries throughout his senior season at Amite, causing him to play sporadically.

Rodney Sopsher has the talent to play on the next level, but I don’t expect the Tide will offer him a scholarship. However, a preferred walk-on spot wouldn’t be out of the question, especially if it helps the team land his younger brother.

Ishmael, the 5-star prospect, told SEC Country LSU recruiting reporter Sam Spiegelman that the brothers would like to attend the same school.

“Family is going to play a big part in this,” Sopsher said. “My brother and I want to play together. You know, they [LSU] are not looking at him because of just me and who I am; they always liked him. He’s very versatile, very athletic and long, and I think he’s a good player.”

This has a similar feel to a situation in Gainesville, Fla. Trey Sanders, the nation’s No. 1 running back and former Alabama commit, has an older brother in junior college, too. The Gators offered Trey’s older brother, Umstead Sanders, a preferred walk-on spot. Umstead will join the Gators this summer, and now Florida is viewed as a strong favorite to sign his younger brother.

Preferred walk-ons don’t count against the scholarship number for any team, so I don’t know why teams don’t do what Florida has done more often, especially if it can help the team land a special talent in Sopsher or Sanders.

LINK ]Nation’s No. 1 safety explains his interest in Alabama, discusses visit plans

Nick Cross is one of Alabama's top DB targets.
quote:

Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Roll Tide-ings, a rundown of everything happening in Alabama Crimson Tide recruiting with Chris Kirschner. In this edition, we talk the latest with the nation’s top safety and the top kicker.

Nick Cross turned in one of the most impressive performances this spring at all of the Nike’s The Opening regional camps across the country. Cross posted a 4.48 40-yard dash with a 4.28 shuttle time and a 38½-inch vertical leap. After his performance at the New Jersey regional, 247Sports bumped Cross up to the nation’s No. 1 safety in the 2019 class.

Cross, a 4-star prospect from DeMatha Catholic High School (Hyattsville, Md.), will take an official visit to Alabama the weekend of June 9. It will be his first trip to Tuscaloosa.

“I am very interested in Alabama,” Cross told SEC Country. “They are definitely one of the schools that I am looking at right now. Just the line of greatness, the tradition and the amount of league success they have had. They are top of the line.”

The Crimson Tide have two defensive back commitments in cornerback/safety Brandon Turnage and cornerback Christian Williams. Cross is one of the team’s top targets at safety along with 4-star prospect Jaylen McCollough.

“Coach [Nick] Saban said I could be a great safety and nickel — and if I wanted to play corner — he could teach me,” Cross said. “[Defensive backs] Coach [Karl] Scott said that they would use me like they used Minkah Fitzpatrick.”

The 6-foot-1, 208-pound prospect took an official visit to Florida last month and will visit Florida State the weekend of June 23. Auburn, LSU and Penn State also are believed to be top contenders for Cross, but from talking with people with knowledge of his recruitment, it sounds as if he prefers to play his college ball in the south, so the June visit surely will be a big one.

What stands out about Alabama to Cross is the team’s ability to churn out draft picks to the NFL. Cross saw that every defensive starter of the 2016 team was drafted in the league, and nine of them ended up being selected in the first three rounds.

“My ultimate goal is to get to the league so that definitely means a lot,” Cross said. “I am just hoping that Tuscaloosa will provide the best atmosphere to reach my full potential academically and athletically.”

Cross plans on making his commitment before the start of his senior season.

What makes Will Reichard a coveted prospect?

We wrote about Will Reichard, the nation’s No. 1 kicker from Hoover (Ala.) High School, on Wednesday. SEC Country will have a feature story on Reichard on Friday. But as a small part of the upcoming story, I spoke with Chris Sailer, Reichard’s personal kicking coach, about Reichard’s game and why he’s the No. 1 kicker in the country despite not having a full season under his belt at Hoover as the team’s No. 1 kicker.

“He’s the most well-rounded kicker we’ve put out of high school probably ever,” Sailer told SEC Country. “I love his makeup both mentally and physically. I think what he has gone through is a big part of that.”

Sailer expanded on his thoughts. “He’s the full package. Every high school kid generally has a flaw somewhere, whether that’s improving technique or getting stronger or handling pressure better. Every box you look for in a kicker, he checks them. I always use Will as an example at all of my camps.

"If he was in the Class of 2017, 2018, 2019 or 2020, he would still be the No. 1 kicker in the country. He’s that good. If I brought him to any campus of where my current college starters are, they would be fearful of their job if Will came to compete. I will go a step further. I even believe you could put him in an NFL camp right now. He’s that good. He does everything extremely well. He’s ready for the next level.”

So, that’s why Alabama is saving a spot for Reichard in its 2019 class despite kicker Joseph Bulovas’ co-MVP A-Day game performance last month.
