5 highly rated LBs other than Owen Pappoe most likely to join Auburn’s class
quote:
There probably has been an Owen Pappoe overload the last few weeks. I can’t promise that will stop anytime soon. Check out my DieHards colleague Jeff Sentell’s updates on Pappoe’s commitment date, his insane SPARQ rating from The Opening regional in Charlotte, N.C., and where everything stands with his recruitment.
There will be more of that from my end in the days to come.
But @CJ4Six raises a good point. Auburn plans to sign a big recruiting class at linebacker, with its three senior starters leaving after the 2018 season. Linebackers coach Travis Williams has been hard at work already in this recruiting class with a few of the Tigers’ top targets.
Here is the latest on five blue-chip linebackers — outside of Pappoe — most likely to land in Auburn’s 2019 class.

5-star Nakobe Dean, Horn Lake, Miss.
For Auburn, it’ll be important to track Nakobe Dean’s return visit — and visits elsewhere.
Dean has visited the Plains only once this spring. It was a weekend-long visit with high school teammate Raydarious Jones, so it made a more lasting impression than a typical first visit. Still, Dean has visited several programs this spring, including Georgia, Alabama and LSU. Auburn is in the picture for Dean, but the same can be said for several other programs.
The Tigers have tried to get Dean on campus on two separate occasions since his first trip. No luck so far.
That’s likely to change with the evaluation period upon us. Auburn and others will be regulars in Horn Lake the next few months.

4-star Vonta Bentley, Birmingham, Ala.
Last time I spoke with Vonta Bentley, he referenced more than once his wish to hear more from Auburn. At the time, he had been hearing much more from Clemson and quite a bit more from Alabama. Two days after that, Bentley was back on the Plains to meet with Auburn coaches.
Auburn’s lack of involvement so far has nothing to do with a lack of interest in Bentley. The Tigers want him. Now they just have to prove it.
Bentley has developed a strong relationship with the Clemson staff, and there are a few strong connections at Alabama. The connection to Auburn has to do with his two high school teammates — TD Moultry and Coynis Miller — who have signed with the Tigers in the last two recruiting classes.
This likely shapes up to be an Alabama vs. Clemson vs. Auburn battle.

Florida recruiting: Gators improve standing with multiple spring-game visitors
quote:
The Gators didn’t land any commitments over the weekend, but they improved their standing with several visitors who were in attendance at the Orange & Blue Game.
Derek Stingley Jr., a 5-star cornerback from Baton Rouge, La., named Florida in his top 6 last month with Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Stanford and Texas.
Stingley moved the Gators up his leaderboard Saturday.
“It was a nice spring game and there was no point during the day when I was bored. I got to see everything I wanted to see,” Stingley told SEC Country. “It helps out their case really good. This is my first game here, so getting to see all that bumped them up higher.”
Another cornerback from Louisiana — 4-star recruit Chester Kimbrough — was on commitment watch this past weekend. He didn’t pull the trigger while in Gainesville, but the New Orleans product named Florida his No. 1 school.
“Florida has always been in the picture for me because of their past history. They’re my leader right now,” Kimbrough said. “I’m just going to wait [on deciding] until I go through the process. … Coach [Dan] Mullen told me whenever I’m ready to jump on board, just tell him and he’s going to make it happen.”
Florida also took the lead for 3-star cornerback Cordale Flott (Saraland, Ala.), according to John Garcia of 247Sports. Flott couldn’t attend the spring game because of he had to take the SAT, so he visited campus Friday and moved the Gators ahead of Alabama, Auburn and Ole Miss.
Former Florida commit Tyrique Stevenson, a top-100 defensive back from Miami, made a surprise trip to the game. The Gators improved their chances with him as well.
“It was pretty exciting and pretty great,” Stevenson said of his visit. “I saw the vibe and I liked it. It just feels better. I got an even better vibe than I got when I was committed. It just opened my eyes up to a lot.”
The Gators also established themselves as a finalist for 4-star running back/wide receiver Mark-Antony Richards, a top-50 overall athlete from West Palm Beach, Fla. He plans to return to Florida for an official visit.
“I just wanted to hear what they had to say and give them an opportunity like I give every other school. They took advantage of that. Florida is up there for me now,” Antony-Richards said. “My top 10 is coming out this summer, but they’re a school that will be up there.”

The latest on top-100 ATH Christian Harris’ choice between LSU, Alabama
quote:
Christian Harris, a 4-star athlete out of University (La.) Lab High School right outside of LSU’s campus in Baton Rouge, is one of the most sought-after prospects in the Class of 2019. At 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds, he’s being courted at an array of different positions, including receiver, tight end, H-back and linebacker.
Two of the schools he has been connected to the most have been Alabama and LSU — for obvious reasons.
Harris earned an offer from Alabama first. The Crimson Tide like the big-bodied athlete as a middle linebacker, an idea that Harris has quickly opened up to. The 4-star athlete is currently leaning toward playing on the defense side of the ball, which certainly works in Alabama’s favor. Harris made a return visit to Tuscaloosa, Ala., last weekend, his second trip there of the spring.
Conversely, LSU likes Harris as an athlete on the offensive side of the ball. In a string of interviews with SEC Country over the past five months, he has openly spoken glowingly about the hometown team. Sources close to Harris believe that he would be a better fit as an offensive player, but at prospect camp in June, the LSU coaching staff would gladly allow him the opportunity to work out on either side of the ball.
After garnering an offer from the Tide, Harris quickly named Alabama as his leader. LSU offered — a bit later — but since then, he has shied away from naming a top schools. That’s a tell-tale sign that the offer from the in-state team is weighing heavily on the elite prospect and that he is nowhere close to making a decision at this point.
Right now, Crystal Ball picks on 247 for Harris are split evenly between LSU and Alabama. He has made two unofficial visits out to Alabama this spring, but has also taken in a handful of spring practices in nearby Baton Rouge. He’s likely to return a few more times before he gives a commitment somewhere this summer.
To say he is trending Alabama’s way is premature at the moment. LSU is very much in the thick of it, but this decision likely will hinge on which position Harris determines is best for his future.
Harris has an older brother who played defensive end for Wake Forest and then the Seattle Seahawks. Personally, with his big frame and toughness, I believe Harris is best suited to play linebacker. He also has enough athleticism to be outstanding in coverage.
Ultimately, this position decision Harris’ choice, which will go a long way in him deciding between the Tigers and the Tide.

Erick Young talks top six schools

quote:
2019 Richmond (Tex.) Ft. Bend Bush cornerback Erick Young made another cut to his list of schools on Monday as he begins to set more official visits and closes in on a late summer decision.
Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas A&M and USC are his top six schools, he announced on Twitter. Young is fresh off his official visit to Texas A&M this past weekend.
The 6-1, 195-pound defensive back broke down each school with 247Sports:
Alabama: "Coach Scott came down to my school and offered me after that. We have a good relationship. We talk almost every week. I have to get over there soon. I should be up there soon."
Ohio State: "I had a lot of interest in them at first, but they hadn't communicated to me at first, but I still have a lot of interest in them. I should be taking an official visit up there soon. Should be in a couple weeks to see them. I like all the defensive backs that have come from there. I like coach Meyer. I like how they communicate to me now that I told them I was interested. They thought I wasn't interested at first."
Oklahoma: "I like everything about them. Everybody is going there from Texas. I feel like the players in Texas are the best. I'm a need up there for them and they really want me. It felt like home up there. I like how coach Cooks and coach Riley talk to me every day."
TCU: "They didn't make my top 10, but they showed a lot of love so I put them back in. Coach Luther, coach Mockins and coach Patterson came to my basketball game. That meant a lot to me."
Texas A&M: "It's close to home. They're in communication and I like how they talk to me. Coach Mo talks to me every day and they need me. In the spring game, I could see they need help at corner. It was fun. The official visit made it better even though I've been there a couple times already."
USC: "I'm going to visit up there too. I have to see which school. PAC-12, I don't know much about them, but I'm going to see them and see what I like."
Up next, Young will be working to schedule his remaining four official visits, which he wants to get done before the summer ends so he can make a decision in late July or August.
The 247Sports Crystal Ball has 14 predictions with the Aggies holding an 86 percent lead over the Sooners for his commitment. You can see all the predictions for Young's signature here.
According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, Young ranks as the No. 100 overall prospect, No. 9 overall cornerback and No. 13 overall prospect in Texas.

Poor Sam. He either doesn't know how many times Christian Harris has visited Bama this spring or else he just lied about it.

Why is LSU not recruiting him as a LB?

They'll tell him they want him at LB then put him on offense. In their defense he is a really good athlete tho.

Kight is the kid from Bama as well right? Man he looks like a beast too wow. As far as Cheney goes he looks just like a football guy. The camp setting isn't his thing.

Never mind guess that video was to highlight those certain offensive lineman. Here is a video to highlight defenders and one of them is Cheney.

Amari Kight has great upside and so does Rashad Cheney. Cheney is still growing some too. Cochran, Key & Kug will develop them into great players.

Cheney looks just as explosive in this camp as he does in his film. Great upside

You provide nothing to dispute.
He is getting off the ball quickly and showed violent hands.
Even in the first clip where he was beaten he still moved well just needed to finish. In the second clip he was the second most impressive after the 2020 DE stud.
