Kayvon Thibodeaux, a 5-star defensive end from Oaks Christian High School (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), is set to make his first visit to Alabama next week. Thibodeaux will be on campus April 7.
Thibodeaux, the nation’s No. 1 recruit in the 2019 class, has expressed a willingness to leave the West Coast to play college football. He has made unofficial visits to Florida and LSU and told SEC Country’s Zach Abolverdi that he could see himself playing for the Gators.
The 6-foot-5, 235-pound prospect has told SEC Country in the past that he feels like Alabama is the top school in the country. “They are the best school in college football,” Thibodeaux said. They are a great school with a great program, but I have equal interest in all of the schools that have offered me.”
If Alabama has any chance at signing Thibodeaux, getting him on campus is the first step and the Tide will make that happen next week. We’ll see if Alabama does enough to get an official visit from Thibodeaux.

Latest intel on top Louisiana running back target John Emery (SEC Country - Auburn)
John Emery will release a top list later this week.
John Emery will release a top list later this week.
quote:
John Emery may be the most important skill player on Auburn’s board. The 4-star prospect from Destrehan, La., ranks as the No. 5 running back in the country and the No. 72 overall recruit.
Emery is one of two running backs Auburn has in the must-land category (Noah Cain is the other). He’s also a top target for LSU, however, and it’s never easy for out-of-state schools to dip into Louisiana and pick out top targets. Auburn feels like it has a chance with this one.
Emery spent most of his last year visiting LSU on a regular basis without taking trips elsewhere. This spring has been the opposite. He’s focused on out-of-state trips to Auburn and Michigan. The trip to Auburn left a major impression on Emery and his family. He called the Tigers a “top contender” after his most recent visit and that they were “definitely” expected to crack his top list of schools.
Emery will release that top list of schools on Friday. He expects to cut the list to eight teams. I don’t like to use guarantees in recruiting, but it would be stunning if Auburn isn’t in that group given the fact the Tigers were one of his top two or three after his last visit.
From what I’ve been told, one of the main concerns from the Emery family about LSU has been the potential of him being in a multiple running back class. LSU already has one running back committed in 4-star Tyrion Davis. Cain is also near the top of of LSU’s board. So it’s a potential logjam at running back in the 2019 class.
The big thing for Auburn: When will he return to the Tigers? If he makes it back shortly — Emery called it “right around the corner” — Auburn could soon move into the team-to-beat category.

Florida recruiting: Gators trending for 5-star RB Trey Sanders (SEC Country - Florida)
Florida has a great shot with Trey Sanders, the nation's No. 1-ranked running back.
Florida has a great shot with Trey Sanders, the nation's No. 1-ranked running back.
quote:
Florida has offered 13 running backs in the 2019 Class, including top-40 recruits Trey Sanders and Noah Cain from IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.).
Sanders and Cain are ranked the nation’s No. 1 and No. 2 running backs, in the 274Sports composite. Their common offers include Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Texas.
Neither player has named any leaders at this time, but the Gators are considered one of their top teams. Cain and Sanders have spoken highly of first-year coach Dan Mullen and his coaching staff.
“With those dudes, I can definitely see the bigger picture with Coach Mullen,” Cain recently told SEC Country. “He’s trying to build that program back to where it was when [Tim] Tebow was there in those winning days.”
Cain plans to take a visit to Florida, but Sanders has already made his way to campus. He attended the Gators’ open practice on March 17 and came away impressed with what he saw.
“It was really good,” Sanders said of his surprise trip. “I liked the vibe. It’s a lot different than the last time I came. Coach Mullen and that staff have a different plan and I like it.”
Of the two backs, Florida has a better shot with Sanders for a few reasons. Unlike Cain, who transferred to IMG Academy from Denton, Texas, Sanders is a Sunshine State product (Port St. Joe, Fla.) and the Gators have in-state appeal. Moreover, his mother is a lifelong Gators fan and his brother — junior college linebacker Umstead Sanders — will join Florida’s football program this summer as a preferred walk-on.
Those family ties have the Gators in great shape with Sanders, but he’s taking his time with the recruiting process and will take official visits to multiple schools before making a decision. Sanders plans to make a return trip to Florida with his mother.
FSU and Miami appear to be Florida’s biggest competition for the former Alabama commit, while Ohio State and Texas have been the teams trending for Cain.

LSU remains in a strong position with a pair of elite linebackers (SEC Country - LSU)
quote:
LSU holds a commitment from Mississippi 3-star linebacker Zach Edwards, but that doesn’t mean the coaching staff has turned down the heat on the linebackers who are still sitting atop their 2019 board.
Donte’ Starks, a 4-star inside linebacker from John Ehret (La.) High School in New Orleans, and Nakobe Dean, the No. 2-ranked inside backer in the country from Mississippi, remain priorities for the coaching staff this year. Both blue-chip prospects have visited already this spring and some — like Starks — on multiple occasions.
After the 2018 season, the Tigers will need to potentially replace Devin White in the middle and Michael Divinity at the Field-linebacker position. Behind them, there’s sophomores Patrick Queen, Jacob Phillips and Tyler Taylor, as well as freshmen Micah Baskerville and Damone Clark, who will enroll in June. It’s safe to say that Dave Aranda needs at least two more linebackers to plug in.
Edwards is tentatively holding onto one spot. However, Jaren Handy, who committed on the same evening, has already reopened his recruitment. Edwards hails from Starkville (Miss.) High School right outside of Mississippi State. He has already maintained that his recruitment remains open, so an eventual flip or de-commitment would not be surprising in the least bit.
Even if Edwards were to remain in the class, that would not stop the LSU staff from pursuing Starks and Dean. Starks is one of Louisiana’s premier 2019 prospects ranked just outside the top 100 and named LSU as his leader at this time a year ago. Dean, a top-25 prospect, has been a regular visit on campus in recent months, recently attending junior day on March 17 and has LSU in the lead group along with Alabama and Stanford.
If either Dean or Starks wanted in early, the staff would not hesitate to say yes.

The situation: Theo Wease may have decommitted from Oklahoma once before, but he hasn’t strayed far from the Sooners. Among his peers, there was a bit of a trend towards predicting that he might be leaning Texas A&M, and the Aggies are an interesting pick as things continue with him.
He said he and fellow former Sooners commit Arjei Henderson talk ‘hourly’ about which college they might go to, and Henderson has both Oklahoma and A&M in his top three. Henderson has also committed and decommitted from Oregon since then, and lives in the Houston area, close to College Station.
If the Aggies can get Wease to come visit more as the fall nears, they may pique his interest at just the right time and steal him and Henderson away.
Prediction: Texas A&M

Highlights: Bama's first episode of 'Shop Talk' (BamaOnLine)
quote:
Alabama is now utilizing its latest recruiting tool in a creative way.
Part 1 of the first episode of “Shop Talk” was released Wednesday evening. It’s a series of chats between former Crimson Tide players, and in this case head coach Nick Saban, inside the new barbershop, “Bama Cuts,” in the Mal M. Moore Athletic Facility.
The first installment features former Alabama wide receiver Julio Jones, defensive back Eddie Jackson and linebacker Ryan Anderson, and Saban joins the video at the 7:43 mark. Jones, usually reserved, was in a rare, chatty mood during the 17-minute video.
Below are a few highlights from the first part of the inaugural episode, as well as the full video. Part 2 is set to release next Wednesday, April 4, in what seems like a weekly feature.
Episode 1, Part 1 highlights:
-- Jones, who is entering his eighth season with the Atlanta Falcons, is in awe of the barbershop and new features inside the football building. “Bruh, we had four couches, two computers upstairs, a pool table and a ping pong table. … I get lost now when I come here. I had to have somebody walk me over.”
-- The trio recapped their worst times conditioning in college. Jackson asked Jones, “Didn’t y’all run 31 110s or something like that?” Jones quickly corrected him with, “36.” Jackson then asked Anderson what was the most 110s they ran during their time at UA, “30 something?” Anderson: “Hell nah. I’d be at South Alabama.”
-- Saban was all smiles sitting around and talking with his former players. And he told them how much he appreciated seeing them back at their alma mater. “The thing that I don’t get to say much that makes me feel the best -- even about winning games or anything else -- is that all you guys that played here over the last 11 years that I’ve been here, everybody likes coming back. That’s the most important thing to me, is that you like coming back.”
-- Saban and Jones both recalled the former 5-star receiver’s recruitment. Jones wasn’t afraid of competition at Alabama, and Saban shared a story of trying to lure the Foley (Ala.) High School star to Tuscaloosa. “We were sitting in my office, and I was scared to death because we already had four receivers in his class. … So, I was like, ‘I hope it doesn’t affect you that we already have four receivers.’ And he looked me and he said, ‘Coach, I don’t care how many receivers you’ve got.’”
-- Saban remembered the location he met each player for the first time. For Jones, it was in the weight room. For Jackson, it was the cafeteria. For Anderson, it was an upstairs office.

Nation's No. 1 recruit sets Alabama visit (BamaOnLine)
quote:>>> Highlights - hudl
Alabama will host the nation's No. 1 overall recruit, Kayvon Thibodeaux, on campus for a visit on April 7, the Thousand Oaks (Calif.) Oaks Christian product announced Wednesday night. Thibodeaux is one of the Tide's targets to know at the Jack linebacker position LINK ]as noted in a recent [VIP] article on BOL.
The five-star Jack LB target picked up an offer from the Tide shortly after National Signing Day a year ago. "Honestly, it feels amazing," Thibodeaux told BOL at that time. "Them being who they are, it feels ridiculous. I don't even know the word. I'm flattered." The elite edge rusher also told BOL that distance from home will not a play a factor in his decision.
At 6-foot-5, 235 pounds, Thibodeaux is rated the No. 1 weak-side defensive end and No. 1 overall player in the country, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. The 247Sports Crystal Ball favors USC over LSU as it stands.

Sizing up Florida’s competition for 5-star DE Kayvon Thibodeaux (SEC Country Florida)
Five-star DE Kayvon Thibodeaux has scheduled three more recruiting visits.
Five-star DE Kayvon Thibodeaux has scheduled three more recruiting visits.
quote:>>> Highlights - hudl
The Gators established themselves as a contender for the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit, Kayvon Thibodeaux, during his two-day visit to Florida in mid-March.
However, it’s tough to say where the Gators stack up against other teams because the 5-star defensive end is figuring that out himself. Prior to Florida trip, LSU was the only school he had visited outside of California.
Thibodeaux attends Oak Christian High School in Westlake Village, Calif., but is originally from Lake Charles, La. He returned to his home state last spring to visit LSU, where he learned how to eat crawfish with Tigers coach Ed Oregon.
In addition to Florida and LSU, he has taken trips to Southern Cal and UCLA. Many view the Trojans as the team to beat in his recruitment, but his proximity to the USC campus doesn’t given them an advantage. “Honestly, I feel like I can play anywhere. Distance does not matter at all,” he told SEC Country.
Right now I think Florida is the bigger threat to the Trojans than LSU and UCLA, but Thibodeaux has several schools he wants to check out. He has three recruiting visits on deck next month.
Thibodeaux is scheduled to see Alabama on April 7, Florida State on April 14 and Oregon on April 21. He also has Clemson, Georgia, Michigan, Oklahoma, Stanford and Washington in his top group of schools.
It remains to be seen how his upcoming trips and future official visits will impact his leaderboard, but Florida set the bar high earlier this month. When it’s time for Thibodeaux to decide, the Gators will have a hat on the table.

4-star edge-rusher Derrick McLendon sets up LSU official visit (SEC Country - LSU)

Four-star Georgia DE Derrick McLendon will officially visit LSU in April.
quote:>>> Highlights - hudl
After shifting around his schedule, one of the nation’s premier 2019 edge-rushers is set to make his way to the Bayou.
Derrick McLendon, the nation’s No. 22-ranked weak-side defensive end, will officially visit LSU for the spring game on April 21 weekend, he informed SEC Country. The 4-star prospect was originally slated to make his first official visit next week.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound pass-rush specialist from Tucker (Ga.) High School recently competed in Nike’s The Opening regional camp in Atlanta, securing a spot in the Final 5 among offensive and defensive linemen. McLendon impressed with his speed coming across the edge.
LSU will have to stave off in-state favorite Georgia for McLendon, as well as Alabama, which at one point was deemed the leader for the Peach State product.

Four-star DE McLendon trims list to five
Note: LSU OV will be April 21 for spring game.
quote:
Derrick McLendon picked up his first offer almost two years ago, so he has a very good feel for the recruiting process.
The end may be in sight for the No. 17-ranked defensive end out of Tucker (Ga.). He plans to be committed before or very early in his senior year.
"I should be ready commit right around the first of August," said McLendon. "I think I will be committed before my senior year. I wouldn't say I am close to committing right now, but I think I will be later in the summer."
Over two dozen schools have offered McLendon, one of the select underclassmen who was invited to the Rivals 100 Five-Star Challenge last summer and he is ready to name his top five schools.
"In no order, my top schools are Georgia, North Carolina State, Florida, Tennessee and LSU. I have already visited Georgia, North Carolina State and Tennessee this year. I will be visiting LSU April 6-8 for an official visit and I will be back to Florida this spring or summer."
Note: LSU OV will be April 21 for spring game.

McLendon talks each of his favorites.
FLORIDA: "Florida was the first SEC school to offer me and I have visited there three or four times, so I have been high on them for a longtime now. The new staff came in and they have been on me from the start. Todd Grantham has recruited me everywhere he has been, so we have a good relationship. The new staff looked out for me and made sure I knew the offer was still valid, so my interest is still high."
GEORGIA: "I have known coach Kirby Smart since I camped at Alabama in 8th grade. I like him a lot and he has always been honest with me. The whole staff at Georgia knows me, so that is cool too. I was up there Thursday for practice and coach [Dan] Lanning showed me some moves and I liked it. I saw Brenton Cox out there getting a lot of reps, so I like how Georgia is playing freshmen too."
LSU: "I have not visited LSU yet, so I am ready to see what is out there. I know Arden Key and he says great things about them and how they helped him develop. They have had a lot of other top defensive linemen too, so I want to check them out. I like how coach O (Ed Orgeron) coached defensive line, so that only helps them."
NC STATE: "I was up there for my first visit a few weeks ago and I was really impressed. I spent a lot of time with coach [Kevin] Patrick and we really have a good connection. We had a good film session and he really broke down how they coached up Bradley Chubb. The development of Chubb speaks for itself. I also like the Raleigh area and the job opportunity there after football."
TENNESSEE: "I know coach Jeremy Pruitt is going to win. He is just that type of guy. He is going to build something at Tennessee, so I like that. I like the vibe up there now too. I also like how I almost know the entire staff from where they coached before. I have been recruited by coach Pruitt, coach [Chris] Rumph, coach [Kevin] Sherrer and coach [Tracy] Rocker, so I am comfortable with a lot of the coaches. I like what I saw up there."
Florida State is a school McLendon plans to visit soon that has yet to offer. Willie Taggart did offer when he was at Oregon, so if the Seminoles offer, they could jump right in this race.
McLendon said he is going to take a long look at the depth charts when he takes visits and does research on his top schools.

For his height, he really needs to be in the 300-310 range. At 320 he could see some situational snaps, but anything above that will likely prevent him from seeing the field. Diet and run big man!

How do we go from leader for McClendon to not in top 5? I mean we only won another NC and Saban comitted to 2024. We still have top notch facilities etc. What gives? I am usually a sunshine pumper when it comes to Alabama, but I get the feeling that not quite as many recruits see us as the absolute number 1 choice to play ball. Any of you experts see or feel the same way?
Posted on 3/29/18 at 3:52 pm to amders44
Very good question. McClendon may have been told or figured out that Bama has guys ahead of him on their board. Also, here's a segment from the 2nd section of the above Rivals article:

It’s not always the recruit’s choice to remove a school from their list after naming said school their leader a long time ago. This is purely speculation but I don’t think McLendon is very high on our board. We just took 3 OLB’s in the 2018 class including probably the best pass rusher in the entire class in Anoma. We also have Mwikuta committed for this class so we can afford to be selective when it comes to OLB recruits in the 2019 class.

Exactly. Ani Izuchukwu could end up in this class too. And the #1 WDE (/OLB) Kayvon Thibodeaux is visiting Bama April 7.
