In-depth look at Alabama’s uncommitted targets as contact period begins
quote:
The contact period is here, the early signing period has passed and we’re just a little more than 3 weeks away from National Signing Day on Feb. 7. The majority of Alabama’s class has signed. The Tide have 15 signees (including Class of 2017 greyshirt defensive lineman Jarez Parks). Coach Nick Saban said at his press conference wrapping up the early signing period that the Tide could take 23.
With that being said, here’s a look at which recruits remain on the board for the Tide:

Quarterback Targets
James Foster, 4-star prospect
Brock Purdy, 3-star prospect
Jamarye Joiner, 3-star prospect
James Foster may be the likeliest candidate to join the team. He’s down to Alabama, Florida State, LSU and Texas A&M. Foster’s childhood dream school was Alabama. If the Tide push for him, I can see him hopping on board. He won’t commit until National Signing Day. The team is evaluating him, and it’s not a given he’s presented the opportunity to commit.
Brock Purdy already has a preferred walk-on offer from Alabama. The team is evaluating him and should make its way out to Gilbert, Ariz. to meet with him. He’s supposed to visit Tuscaloosa on Jan. 26. Purdy was the Gatorade High School Player of the Year in Arizona.
Jamarye Joiner is committed to Arizona, but after Rich Rodriguez was fired from the school earlier this month, his pledge to the Wildcats is in doubt. Alabama hasn’t offered yet, but Joiner will visit Tuscaloosa on Feb. 2.

Wide Receiver Targets
Justyn Ross, 4-star prospect
Jacob Copeland, 4-star prospect
Jaylen Waddle, 4-star prospect
Justin Watkins, 4-star prospect
Justyn Ross will commit to either Alabama, Auburn or Clemson. I’ve heard from a source close to Alabama in the past few days who said he believes it is gaining steam with the state’s top prospect. Recruiting is fluid, but I think it’s going to come down to the Tide and Clemson.
Who knows what Jacob Copeland is going to do? He’s one player who has taken advantage of the attention the recruiting process brings. Even though Copeland’s primary recruiter, Jeremy Pruitt, left, I believe the Tide are in good shape with him. Alabama, Florida and Tennessee are the main suitors.
Jaylen Waddle will likely choose Alabama or Texas A&M. The Tide were the longtime favorites until Jimbo Fisher, who Waddle had a relationship with when he was the coach at Florida State, was hired by the Aggies. Waddle is from the state of Texas and is contemplating if staying closer to home is what he wants to do.

Offensive Line Targets:
Nicholas Petit-Frere, 5-star tackle
Penei Sewell, 4-star guard
Alabama would like to add one more elite offensive lineman to this class, and I think it will.
Nicholas Petit-Frere has been the team’s top target at offensive tackle for months. Petit-Frere keeps his recruitment under wraps, but I know Alabama has felt confident with landing him. He’ll visit Tuscaloosa on Jan. 19, Florida on Jan. 26 and Ohio State on Feb. 2. He has already taken trips to Michigan and Notre Dame.
Penei Sewell was contemplating signing early, but he decided to hold off. He’ll likely commit to either Alabama or Oregon. He’s very close to Ducks coach Mario Cristobal, but understands the Tide’s history at sending offensive linemen to the NFL is much richer than the Ducks’.
I’m leaning toward the Tide signing Petit-Frere.

Defensive Line Targets:
Tyler Friday, 4-star tackle/end
Malik Langham, 3-star prospect
Tyler Friday took an official visit to Alabama last month. He told SEC Country that Alabama is going to be in his top 3 along with Michigan and Ohio State. He’s expected to make his commitment Friday. I don’t think Alabama is going to be the choice.
Malik Langham was offered by ‘Bama in December. He’s a recruit who has risen up the Tide’s board fast. I think it’s going to be hard for him to not choose Alabama when he makes his decision.
Who’s committed/signed: Stephon Wynn*, Christian Barmore*, Bobby Brown

Linebacker Targets:
None
Vernon Jackson and Quay Walker didn’t sign early, so the Tide will need to fight off schools who are trying to flip them. Texas and Texas A&M are trying to flip Jackson, while Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee are trying to flip Walker. I do not think Walker is going to end up signing with the Tide.
Who’s committed/signed: Jordan Davis*, Cameron Latu*, Eyabi Anoma*, Vernon Jackson, Quay Walker
JJ Peterson (4-star UT commit) is still a target and will visit UA the weekend of January 20.

Defensive Back Targets:
Tyson Campbell, 5-star corner
Patrick Surtain Jr., 5-star corner
Isaac Taylor-Stuart, 4-star prospect
Eddie Smith, 3-star prospect
A lot of eyeballs are going to be on this group in the coming weeks.
Tyson Campbell has been Alabama’s top cornerback target for months. He’s visiting Tuscaloosa next weekend and Georgia this weekend. This may be an Alabama-UGA-Miami race for him.
Patrick Surtain Jr. has named LSU his leader for more than a year, but he hasn’t committed or signed. I think that’s interesting. He’s visiting Tuscaloosa on Jan. 19 and will visit LSU this weekend.
With Nadab Joseph flipping from Alabama to Georgia, I expect the Tide to turn the heat up on Isaac Taylor-Stuart. The Tide led for several months of his recruitment last year. If he makes it back to Tuscaloosa this month, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Tide get back on top.
Eddie Smith received a committable offer from Alabama on Thursday. He’s expected to visit Tuscaloosa this month.
Who’s committed/signed: Jalyn Armour-Davis*, Josh Jobe*, Saivion Smith*

Tennessee LB commit JJ Peterson to officially visit Alabama during championship parade
quote:
JJ Peterson listed Alabama as his leader for almost a year before committing to Tennessee last weekend at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. The reason for the change of heart had everything to do with Jeremy Pruitt taking the job at Tennessee.
Peterson’s closest relationship with any college coach is Pruit, mainly because the 4-star linebacker’s from Colquitt County High School (Moultrie, Ga.) is Rush Propst. Propst hired Pruitt to be his special teams coordinator before promoting him to defensive coordinator at Hoover (Ala.) High School. Propst and Pruitt remain good friends to this day.
The Army All-American will make his first-ever trip to Knoxville this weekend (yes, he committed to Tennessee without ever visiting). Pruitt was a major reason why he chose the Vols but not the only one.
“I have a strong connection with Coach Pruitt and [defensive coordinator] Coach [Kevin] Sherrer,” Peterson said. “I also have two former teammates there [Shawn Shamburger and Jay Blakely]. I know people there.”
But, apparently, he’s still giving consideration to Alabama because Peterson plans to visit Tuscaloosa next weekend, according to Propst, which is the biggest recruiting weekend for the Tide. Alabama will celebrate its national championship win on the 20th. In addition to Peterson, 5-star prospects Tyson Campbell, Patrick Surtain Jr and Nicholas Petit-Frere will be there, too. Justyn Ross, the state’s top prospect, will take an official visit that weekend as well.
It’s going to be a very important weekend for the Tide and now Peterson makes it that much bigger.

Damien Harris on coming back. He's a Gump
quote:
Damien Harris on coming back: You can point to Xs and Os and pros and cons but at the end of the day I wanted to come back to his team for another year. I love this university. I have a lot of respect for the coaching staff and this team.

He’s also got a pretty cute girl that hasn’t graduated yet. If I understand that correctly.

They might have broken up. She just started her freshman year down here, so he'd have some serious waiting to do

Can't believe Nick got Pruitt away from Peterson at least one week.
