Patrick Surtain

You can't draw them up much better in the defensive backfield than this elite prospect out of South Florida. Surtain has grown a couple of inches and is really coming into his own physically, and is technically sound with the ability to burst out of his breaks to make a play on the football in a hurry. Surtain is a fleet-footed cornerback that does a good job of sinking his hips and playing with suddenness, but when you add his prototypical size and length for a young defender, you have the makings of a potential five-star recruit. This young man has great football bloodlines as well.

Isaac Taylor-Stuart

Taylor-Stuart is a long, rangy corner with very good straight line speed. He's all of 6-2 and might not be done growing and is a legitimate 4.4-40 guy who can close well on the ball. He has long arms and should be very affective in press coverage in college. If he continues to grow, he could end up as a ballhawking safety or stay as a big corner. He shows good ball skills as well and is very strong in run support- Biggins

Kevontae Ruggs doesn't have an evaluation on his profile page, but I did see he is taking an OV to Ole Miss on January 18th.

Which Alabama assistants rank in the Top 25 of the 247Sports Recruiter Rankings?

quote:

Alabama finished the Early Signing Period with the No. 5 class per the 247Sports Team Rankings with 15 signees (including Jarez Parks) and four commitments who opted not to put pen to paper just yet.

247Sports ranks recruiters as well and Alabama currently has three assistants within the top 25 of the rankings.

No. 8 Tosh Lupoi, Co-Defensive Coordinator and Outside Linebackers Coach

Lupoi is the lead recruiter on a handful of top commitments in Stephon Wynn, Cameron Latu, Tommy Brown, and Bobby Brown -- the latter of which's commitment bumped Lupoi into the top 10 in the final hours of the Early Signing Period. Lupoi has been the Tide's ace recruiter on staff in recent years, credited with landing Najee Harris, Tua Tagovailoa, and Dylan Moses, among others, in the 2017 cycle.

Remaining top targets Lupoi is primary on:

5-star CB Isaac Taylor-Stuart

4-star WR Jaylen Waddle

4-star QB Tanner McKee

4-star OT Penei Sewell

4-star DT Bobby Brown (Alabama commit that did not sign)

No. 16 Derrick Ansley, Defensive Backs Coach

Ansley is the primary on Emil Ekiyor, Saivion Smith, and Quay Walker. He's also considered the keeper on Jalyn Armour-Davis. All signed expect for Walker, who Lupoi will work to keep in the class come February's signing day.

Remaining targets Ansley is primary on:

4-star LB JJ Peterson

I hope he is helping Pannunzio down in South Beach for Surtain and Campbell.

No. 24 Mike Locksley, Wide Receivers Coach

Locksley had a big Early Signing Period landing five-star defensive end Eyabi Anoma and four-star defensive tackle Christian Barmore. Days earlier, Locksley landed another top target in three-star all-purpose back Jerome Ford.

Remaining top targets Locksley is primary on:

5-star OT Nicholas Petit-Frere

I guess Brent Key just said frick it when it comes to recruiting.

Alabama’s signees, commits and targets playing in Under Armour All-America Game

Alabama signees and targets playing in Under Armour game

Numerous Alabama signees and targets will head to Orlando, Fla. beginning on Saturday to check in for the Under Armour All-America Game, which kicks off at 6 p.m. ET on Jan. 4. The game will air on ESPN2. SEC Country will have multiple reporters in Orlando all week, including myself, providing coverage on the recruits considering Alabama and other SEC schools.

Here’s a look at the players at the game who are considering the Tide and the commits and signees that Alabama got during the early signing period.

Commits

Quay Walker, 4-star LB, Crisp County (Cordele, Ga.)

Walker didn’t sign with Alabama during the early signing period, as he’s not 100 percent committed to the Crimson Tide. He’s still strongly considering Auburn and Georgia. It’s the Bulldogs who have lots of momentum with Walker. Georgia was trying very hard to get Walker to flip and sign during the early signing period. It’s going to be interesting to hear what he has to say during media check-in on Saturday.

Targets

Jacob Copeland, 4-star WR, Escambia (Pensacola, Fla.)

Copeland looked like he was definitely going to flip from Florida to Alabama a couple of months ago. He has since de-committed from the Gators, and the Crimson Tide have lost some momentum with Jeremy Pruitt, Copeland’s primary recruiter, leaving for Tennessee. Copeland visited Tuscaloosa several times during the season and has a relationship with Nick Saban, so the Tide are still in good position here.

Coynis Miller, 4-star DT, Jackson-Olin (Birmingham, Ala.)

Miller committed to Auburn over Alabama this fall. Pruitt was very high on Miller, but since he left, other targets like Christian Barmore, Tyler Friday and Malik Langham have passed him on the board. Alabama hasn’t really recruited Miller lately.

Joshua Moore, 4-star WR, Yoakum (Yoakum, Texas)

Moore took an official visit to Alabama and the Tide staff like his ability to play on either side of the ball. It’s unclear if there’s room for him to commit to the Tide at this point.

Nicholas Petit-Frere, 5-star OT, Berkeley Prep (Tampa, Fla.)

Petit-Frere has been Alabama’s top offensive tackle target for several months. He’ll likely commit to either Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame or Ohio State. He stays very quiet when it comes to which way he’s leaning, but he already has taken official visits to South Bend and Ann Arbor. He’ll likely make his way to Tuscaloosa in January before making his decision in February.

Justyn Ross, 4-star WR, Central (Phenix City, Ala.)

Clemson is definitely in good position to land Ross, the state of Alabama’s No. 1 prospect, but I know the Tide have been gaining ground lately mainly because of defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley, who is his primary recruiter. Ansley visited Ross and his family every week during the contact period. Ansley helped Alabama lock up an in-state receiver last year in Henry Ruggs, who was leaning toward Florida State in the final hours before signing with the Tide. We’ll see if he can do it again with Ross.

Tyreke Smith, 4-star DE, Cleveland Heights (Cleveland, Ohio)

Smith will make his decision at the Under Armour game. He’s down to Alabama, Penn State, Ohio State, Oregon and USC. I don’t think the Tide have much of a chance to land Smith. Penn State, Ohio State and USC all are in better position to land him.

Justin Watkins, 4-star WR, East Ridge (Clermont, Fla.)

Watkins is down to Alabama and LSU, but I don’t know if there is room for him at either school right now. I know he’s planning on making his commitment at the game. Will Alabama take Watkins before Copeland and Jaylen Waddle, who are all recruited as slot receivers, make their decisions?
