How many more is UGA taking?

Other than Walker, anyone we are going head to head over?

Dunno if this got answered already, but here is my read on it at this point...

We've got 20 signatures at this point. Of the 4 additional commitments, the thought is that one or two of those will be more likely to stick than the others... I *believe* the max number this year is still 25... there is a little bit of wizardry that I speculated on (Americus confirmed that I'm probably correct, but you know Kirby and Co aren't going to let it out publicly, so it's still internet math at best)... Short version is - David Marvin was a blue shirt last year, Devonte Wyatt's spot in the 2017 class was vacated when his qualification/admission to UGA was delayed so much that he had to go to Juco for a year, when that happened, I believe we were able to still back count Marvin's blueshirt into Wyatt's spot in the 2017 class... Wyatt still counts against 2018 numbers but Marvin not penalizing us in the class which should give us a cap of 25... at worst, I'm off by one.

If I had to take a guess at what we are looking at filling it with, I'd go:

WR - Hopefully Tommy Bush - if not, would guess still looking big body guy to approximate what Wims did this year. Landers only guy on roster with that kind of length.

CB - I think we want either ITS or Campbell still here to go along with Joseph... if we don't land an elite player here, Wildgoose likely still has a spot... he may have a spot anyways as the coaches seemed to like him a lot (and he's Divaad Wilson's teammate).

2x DL - My guess is that we keep at least one of the existing DT commits... speculation that Michael Thompson out of Missouri is interested in the Dawgs - no clue how realistic that is as it came along with the Brick Haley rumors which I haven't seen confirmed anywhere...

1 ? - Best available here - I think the preference is Reese or Walker... whoever will sign first. If neither, Brule probably still has this spot, but I have to assume based on his twitter comments that he probably won't wait around to find out (TCU or LSU?). Never know though.

Of course, all of this could change at a moments notice... - But that's how I see it right now based on all the scuttlebutt and who we've prioritized from a time/visit standpoint.

In-depth look at Alabama’s uncommitted targets after 2 days of early signing period

quote:

After two days of the early signing period, I thought it would be a good time to take a look at who else is out there for Alabama. The majority of the class has already signed. The Tide have 15 signees (including Class of 2017 greyshirt defensive lineman Jarez Parks). Coach Nick Saban said at his press conference on Wednesday the Tide could take 23.

With all that being said, here’s a look at which recruits remain on the board for the Tide:

QB

Targets: James Foster, 4-star prospect, Tanner McKee, 4-star prospect

Alabama missed on its top target in Emory Jones, who signed with Florida on Wednesday. That leaves the Tide with two options in the 2018 class.

James Foster is the likeliest candidate to join the team. He’s down to Alabama, Florida State, LSU and Texas A&M. Foster’s childhood dream school was Alabama. If the Tide push for him, I can definitely see him hop on board. He won’t commit until Signing Day on Feb 7.

Tanner McKee is essentially a 2020 prospect because he’s going on a two-year Mormon mission after graduating high school. He will not sign a letter of intent in February when he commits. McKee took an official visit to Tuscaloosa for the LSU game.

WR

Targets: Justyn Ross, 4-star prospect, Jacob Copeland, 4-star prospect, Jaylen Waddle, 4-star prospect, Justin Watkins, 4-star prospect

Justyn Ross will commit to either Alabama, Auburn or Clemson. I’ve heard from a source close to Alabama in the past few days who said he believes Ross chooses Alabama. Recruiting is fluid, but I think it’s going to come down to the Tide and Tigers.

Who knows what Jacob Copeland is going to do? He’s definitely one player who has taken full advantage of the attention the recruiting process brings. Even though Copeland’s primary recruiter Jeremy Pruitt left, I still believe the Tide are in good shape with him. Alabama, Florida and Tennessee are the main suitors.

Jaylen Waddle will likely choose Alabama or Texas A&M. The Tide were the longtime favorites until Jimbo Fisher, who Waddle had a relationship with when he was the coach at Florida State, was hired by the Aggies. Waddle is from the state of Texas and is contemplating if staying closer to home is what he wants to do.

Justin Watkins remains somewhat of a mystery. He’s down to Alabama and LSU, but both schools may not have space for him if other targets hop on board. We’ll see what happens here.

After missing on Dominick Wood-Anderson (Tennessee) and Luke Ford (Georgia), Alabama is done at tight end.

OL

Targets: Nicholas Petit-Frere, 5-star tackle/Penei Sewell, 4-star guard

Alabama would like to add one more elite offensive lineman to this class, and I think it will.

Nicholas Petit-Frere has been the team’s top target at offensive tackle for months now. Petit-Frere keeps his recruitment under wraps, but I know Alabama has felt confident with landing him. We should know more about where he stands during the Under Armour All-America Game week at the end of the month.

Penei Sewell was contemplating signing early, but he decided to hold off. He’ll likely commit to either Alabama or Oregon. He’s very close to Ducks coach Mario Cristobal but understands the Tide’s history at sending offensive linemen to the NFL is much richer than the Ducks’.

I’m leaning toward the Tide signing Petit-Frere.

DL

Targets: Bobby Brown, 4-star tackle/end, Tyler Friday, 4-star tackle, Malik Langham, 3-star prospect

Bobby Brown de-committed from Texas A&M on Wednesday night. Alabama has been chipping away at his commitment the past few weeks. Co-defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi has been by Brown’s home three times. Do not be surprised to see Brown go ahead and make a decision by the end of the signing period.

Tyler Friday took an official visit to Alabama earlier this month. He told SEC Country that Alabama is for sure going to be in his top 3 along with Michigan and Ohio State. Alabama would love to add both Friday and Brown.

Malik Langham was offered by ‘Bama earlier this month. He’s a recruit who has risen up the Tide’s board fast. I think it’s going to be hard for him to not choose Alabama when he makes his decision.

LB

Targets: JJ Peterson, 4-star prospect

JJ Peterson recently told SEC Country that Tennessee is his leader, mainly because of Pruitt, who is in Knoxville now. Peterson’s coach at Colquitt County is Rush Propst, who was Pruitt’s boss at Hoover High School. I still think Bama has a good chance to land its top target at the position.

Vernon Jackson and Quay Walker aren’t planning on signing early, so the Tide will need to fight off schools who are trying to flip them. Texas and Texas A&M are trying to flip Jackson, while Georgia and Auburn are trying to flip Walker.

Targets: Tyson Campbell, 5-star corner, Patrick Surtain Jr., 5-star corner, Isaac Taylor-Stuart, 4-star prospect, Kelvin Joseph, 4-star prospect

A lot of eyeballs are going to be on this group in the coming weeks.

Tyson Campbell has been Alabama’s top cornerback target for months now. He’s expected to take an official visit to Tuscaloosa in January. This may be an Alabama-UGA-Miami race for him.

Patrick Surtain Jr. has named LSU his leader for more than a year now, but he hasn’t committed or signed. I just think that’s interesting. He’s also expected to visit in January.

With Nadab Joseph flipping from Alabama to Georgia, I expect the Tide to turn the heat up on Isaac Taylor-Stuart. The Tide led for several months of his recruitment last year. If he makes it back to Tuscaloosa next month, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Tide get back on top.

Kelvin Joseph de-committed from LSU this fall and it looked like Alabama was going to be the beneficiary of that decision. It still looks likely that he’ll end up with the Tigers. He didn’t visit Tuscaloosa once this fall.

They seem confident with Petit-frere, that would be 5* number two

Brown just picked up a CB for A&M. I thought he eliminated them from consideration.

I think Bud Elliot just fat fingered his CB because now it shows he predicts him to end up at Alabama.

He can bring his stuff here whenever he chooses. He was asked a question and he responded in kind.
