Another commitment coming this week for Alabama?

The Tide landed their 12th commitment in the 2018 class this past Sunday when 4-star offensive lineman Emil Ekiyor flipped from Michigan to Alabama. The team’s 13th commitment should come by the end of the week.

Nadab Joseph, a 4-star cornerback from Miami Norland High School, is expected to announce his commitment by Sunday. Joseph has a top 3 of Alabama, Georgia and LSU. He told SEC Country earlier this month that he had a private leader. Alabama is likely the school on top, though he won’t say so publicly.

“That’s Alabama. That’s Nick [Saban], and the head coach works with defensive backs,” Joseph said. “They’re coming at 99, always hitting me up, and the head coach is calling me a lot. Alabama, you know, they’re telling they want me to come in and play now, and that’s what I want. If they say it, I believe it.”

Joseph de-committed from LSU in August. That didn’t come as a surprise. What did come as a surprise was him just not flipping to Alabama at that time. The Crimson Tide were trending for two months prior to him reopening his recruitment.

He still is strongly considering LSU and will be in Tuscaloosa this weekend to watch both teams, but Joseph had an interesting take when it comes to why Alabama may be a better option for him.

“Doesn’t Alabama have better wide receivers than LSU?” Joseph asked. “I know I’d get a better look at practice, and that’s what they’ve been talking about — that I can go against the Alabama wide receivers and they’re doing something right, and if I go against them in practice, that will make me better.”

Not many high school cornerbacks take that into account when choosing their schools. But Joseph makes a good point on why choosing a school with better wide receivers could be beneficial to him.

Cornerback is arguably Alabama’s biggest need in the 2018 class after not signing a true corner in the 2017 class and the team will lose Anthony Averett, Tony Brown and Levi Wallace after the season.

So if we land Nadab Joseph, Savion Smith, and we already have Jalyn Armour Davis. Do we take anymore? Thats three corners

With potentially losing Thompson, we definitely need all the DBs we can get now even more so.

Everything I have read about that says he will be fine, even if worse case scenario we lose him for the year itll be ok. I was wondering along the lines of Pat Surtain, Isaac Taylor, and Tyson Campbell. Are those ships sailing?

Bama will take 5 if they can

S. Smith
J. Davis
T. Campbell
N. Joseph
K. Joseph

would be my best guess

Insider on BOL said Daron Payne has always intended on coming back for his Senior Season. That would be huge

Davis will probably fill Tony Brown's role as the 5th DB.

Sorry......

K. Joseph is safety and J. Davis is star, the other three would be CB's

I could care less about or recruiting ranking as long as we get top notch corners and DL. That’s really all we need with a few WRs sprinkled in.

We honestly need a large DB and DL class. Sign them all up. Honestly, I love that our OL class is shaping up to be very good, but we return a ton of experience and young talent next year. I'm sort of surprised we'd even sign more than say 3, especially since we're bringing in a gray-shirt OL from last year too. If I were guessing, I'd guess we sign a class like this:

QB- 0-1 (Emory Jones or bust.)
RB-1 (with Harris and Bo both possibly leaving early, that would leave us with only 3 scholly backs in 2018 and recent history has shown us, we need to be 4-5 deep at RB.)
WR-3-4 (we lose 3 and I'm guessing a guy like Kief may t-fer out.)
TE-1
OL-3

DL-4-5
LB-4
DB-5

K-1

If we keep taking OL and WR's...I'm afraid that may cut into what we need at DL and DB. I know, I know. Trust Saban.

There are some good ones out there we can flip. Asa Martin is not a done deal, the UF commit is back in play and there are others. Heck, with Cook committing to UGA and the emergence of Swift, maybe White gives us a 2nd look. Bottom line, we need more than 3 scholly backs next year....you get 2 guys dinged up and you are in real trouble. I'm confident Saban will find and sign one.

What do you consider "not BAMA standards?"

I'm guessing they are a private moving company?
