MIDLANDS

Top Newcomer: Miles Battle

Battle, a 6-foot-4, 187-pound wide receiver from Cypress (Texas) Creek has a big-bodied frame, but has uncanny athleticism and playmaking skills inside of it. He has good vertical skills and a great catch radius and that makes it an impossible task for smaller defensive backs to limit his effectiveness. He has put up great numbers under the lights and has shown on the camp circuit that he can test as well as anyone. He is now rated in the Scout Top 300 and is a new four-star prospect.

Highest Riser: Jalen Green

Green, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound cornerback from Houston (Texas) Heights is an amazing lock-down cornerback who will come and hit like a safety. He has great stop and start speed and he can close the distance in an instant. He can blanket the best wide receivers, but he can also tackle and plays with an aggressive style. Green has even spent a lot of time in high school playing quarterback, so he has a knowledge of the game. He is up to 36 offers with schools like Alabama, Clemson, LSU, Alabama, Clemson, LSU, Ohio State, TCU, Texas and more trying to woo him to their campuses. He is in the five-star mix.

Significant Mover: Jaylen Waddle

Waddle, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound wide receiver from Bellaire (Texas) Episcopal has always been a member of the Scout 300, but now he finds himself rated in the Top 100. He is one of the nation’s premiere return men and he should be in the talk to be considered as one of the top slot-style wide receiver prospects nationally. He is one of the most elusive prospects in the open field and he has 4.37 40-yard dash speed. Think of some combination of the skill sets of former Big 12 standouts Jakeem Grant and Sterling Shepard when thinking of Waddle’s game.

I really hope we can get in with Jalen Green. He's a stud.

WEST

Top Newcomer: Devon Williams

Lancaster (Calif.) Antelope Valley athlete Devon Williams made the biggest jump in to the Scout 300 going from an unranked prospect prior to his junior season to the No. 20 player in the West and No. 81 overall in the country. We love the versatility Williams brings to the table and feel he could play 3-4 positions in college. He has made the biggest impact this off-season at receiver and has looked tremendous at every event we’ve seen him at. He also projects as a high level safety or could grow in to a pass rushing outside linebacker. At 6-5, 195 pounds, he has a long, lean athletic frame, runs well and plays with plenty of toughness. His recruitment really exploded in the winter as well with offers coming in from all over the country including programs like Alabama, Florida State, Nebraska and Notre Dame plus local schools UCLA and USC.

Highest Riser: Tanner McKee

Corona (Calif.) Centennial quarterback Tanner McKee made the biggest jump inside the Scout 50, moving from the No. 178 player in the country to No. 29. McKee is now the No. 2 QB in the region as well and flashes tremendous next level upside. He put up huge numbers throwing it and running it as a junior and surprised onlookers with his athleticism and ability to scramble for plus yards for a 6-6 signal caller. From a pure throwing standpoint, McKee has a quick, tight release, very live arm and can really spin the football. He’s accurate, can change speeds and throws with great touch on the deeper balls down the field. Alabama, Auburn, BYU, Florida State, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and UCLA will all get visits this Spring.

Significant Mover:

Medford (Ore.) South Medford wide out Chase Cota made the biggest jump inside the Scout 100 moving from the No. 198 player in the country to the No. 46 overall prospect. He also moves from the No. 8 WR in the West to the No. 3 WR in what is a loaded group. Cota has a great combination of size, speed and hands and lit up the Nike Opening Regional Camp in L.A and the Under Armour AA Camp at Mission Viejo. He’s a big, 6-4, 195 pound athlete who can really run and is still developing physically as well. His best days are definitely ahead of him. Cota’s father Chad was an All-American DB at Oregon but schools like California, Oregon State, UCLA and USC are heavily involved here as well.

WR Jordyn Adams - Cary (N.C.) Green Hope

Adams is an explosive player on the outside who is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. His combination of elite speed, quickness and overall athleticism make him one of the most dynamic receivers in the country. He is not tipping his hand when it comes to his recruitment, but his father is an assistant at North Carolina, so that should help the Tar Heels' chances. However, keep an eye on Alabama, Clemson, LSU, and Ohio State. -- Michael Clark

QB Justin Fields - Harrison (La.)

Having it all or checking all the boxes is overused in this industry, but not when the conversation surrounds Justin Fields. He is big, he is strong, well put together, can make all the throws and is among the top athletes among quarterbacks in the country as well. The Penn State commitment, who other schools across America haven't soon slowed down for, commands attention off the field with the way he carries himself as well. Fields is the type of prospect you can build a program around. -- John Garcia

As I've said multiple times, this guy is my favorite QB in this class.

S Joseph Foucha - New Orleans (La.) McDonogh

Foucha makes an impact in all three phases of the game for his high school team. Most likely a safety in college with the ability to move around the secondary, Foucha eats up territory as a back-end cover man, but also thrives as a hitter. He holds a couple of dozen offers, including schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Michigan, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas A&M, and others. -- Gabe Brooks

WR Lawrence Keys III - New Orleans (La.)

McDonogh Keys is a playmaking receiver who can line up in the slot or outside and stretch the field vertically. Keys possesses good speed and plays faster than he tests, and he's quick off the line. He owns more than 30 offers from across the country, including eight SEC programs. -- Gabe Brooks

ILB Dax Hollifield - Shelby (N.C.)

Inside linebacker Dax Hollifield continues to get better and better. Hollifield, who has nearly 500 tackles in his first three years of high school, is a natural playmaker with great instincts and a tremendous work ethic. He has numerous offers, but North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia Tech are the schools with the best chance to land the Shelby standout. -- John Garcia

WR Terrace Marshall Jr. - Bossier City (La.) Parkway

Marshall has a well-rounded skill set that will draw some comparison to former UnderArmour All-America Game legend A.J. Green. Like Green, Marshall is slated to play in the UA Game in January. He has everything you are looking for to be a top playmaker at the position. Schools from across the country have targeted Marshall, including Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, TCU, Texas, and Texas A&M. -- Greg Powers

WR Justyn Ross - Phenix City (Ala.) Central

This may not be the last time Ross booms up the Scout rankings. Long considered the top prospect in Alabama, it seems the big, strong wide receiver could threaten the top spot at the position in the entire class. Ross has dominated at the only two camp events he's ever attended, the Future 50 in December and The Opening Atlanta over the weekend, where his combination of size, speed, athleticism and continued improvement with his route-running made for a deadly combination to defensive backs. In-state Alabama and Auburn are jockeying for the state's top prospect but Florida, Florida State and others are still very much in the game. -- John Garcia

DT James Williams - Callaway (Miss.)

James Williams has exploded onto the recruiting scene in 2017 with near double-digit offers as programs learn of his unique combination of size and athleticism at 6-foot-5, 265 pounds. He can play inside or out along a defensive front, with production to boot coming off of a 90-tackle, 12-sack junior season. Williams, who recently added Georgia to his offer list along with Alabama, LSU, Louisville and many others, can also make plays on the hardwood. -- John Garcia

OLB Payton Wilson - Hillsborough (N.C.) Orange

Outside linebacker Payton Wilson is a big, physical defensive playmaker with good athleticism. He is instinctive, versatile and relentless. Wilson has a top seven in no order of Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio State, Stanford, and Virginia Tech and he will commit on May 1. -- Michael Clark

Tanner McKee says his visit with Alabama was amazing yesterday.

He still has a two year mission trip planned immediately after high school so I am having a hard time getting excited about him.

I'll never understand how AU can stack DL up on their roster. And yet have little to show for it. Albeit they were improved their in 2016.
