Just a somewhat random observation, but Arky, aTm, Tennessee, Missouri, and Ole Miss are talking about or certain to be hiring new coaches and LSU is a dumpster fire.

There should be a ton of chances to flip some guys down the stretch.

The seven-time, defending, National Signing Day champs Alabama are sitting back at No. 22 in the 247Sports Rankings but this past weekend looks to have gone a long way towards seeing this class continue to move up.

New 247Sports Crystal Ball forecasts from me include the nation’s No. 2 center Emil Ekiyor, the country’s No. 5 running back Harold Joiner and top-ranked JUCO cornerback Saivion Smith.

247Sports’s No. 2 ranked outside linebacker Adam Anderson was also there for the 66-3 rout of Ole Miss, as was arguably the top slot receiver in the country, Jaylen Waddle. The Crimson Tide are in the top two for both.

We haven’t even gotten into the quarterbacks, which included an official visit from 247Sports’s No. 1 ranked recruit Justin Fields and Top247 Kentucky commit Jarren Williams.

It’s hard to say Alabama will finish No. 1 for an eighth-straight year but it’s also hard to imagine they won’t shoot into the Top10 with a chance to close in the Top 5.

Speaking of Fields, Alabama, Florida State, Georgia and LSU look like the four biggest players with schools like Auburn, USC and Oregon regularly mentioned. Fields took an official to Baton Rouge and spent the two weekends prior in Athens. Florida State seems like the likely destination this weekend. He wanted to visit for the Miami game earlier in the fall but the trip was moved because of the Hurricane.

My 247Sports Crystal Ball remains foggy regarding where Fields will sign.

We don't need a five star anything. Just need to develop the ones on the bench.

Not a good analysis when you barely have any corners. I think Nigel Knott and maybe that 3* NSD flip we got a few years ago is it. We need to stack up talent in the secondary. They dont always work out but that could be a huge problem next year

That 3 star flip was Aaron Robinson, who transferred over the summer. I don't think Knott has even played yet, heard he was soft.

I wasnt aware he transferred. I didnt understand that anyway. As for Nigel Knott I read the same thing on this board. I thought he would be a big time corner with his athleticism .

The race for five-star quarterback Justin Fields, the No. 1 player in the country, took a new turn over the weekend, as the Kennesaw (Ga.) Harrison product took an official visit to Alabama -- a program not often mentioned as a serious contender for Fields' services.

Florida State and Georgia appear to be the two teams out front in Fields' recruitment. The Bulldogs offer the 6-foot-3, 221-pounder the chance to stay home, and potentially an offense catered towards his skillset. The Seminoles intrigue being the potential to see the field almost immediately with uncertainty at the quarterback position going forward after Deondre Francois' season-ending injury.

Alabama also presents an intriguing opportunity for the nation's top quarterback, and shouldn't be entirely slept on as the potential destination for Fields in the end.

Here, BamaOnLine looks at five reasons why Fields could commit to Alabama.

Chance to play early regardless of incumbent

One thing Nick Saban has proven, especially in recent years, is he's not afraid to play freshmen. If there's any confusion on that point, look at what true freshman Jalen Hurts was able to do in 2016 when he beat out Blake Barnett, Cooper Bateman, and David Cornwell for the starting gig. The Tide head coach will play the best player at each position, which has been a big selling point for Fields when considering the Capstone.

The rise of Jake Fromm at Georgia

The Bulldogs have been a popular pick to land the in-state quarterback. After an injury to sophomore starter Jacob Eason in the first game of the season, however, freshman (and former Alabama commit) Jake Fromm has taken the reigns of the offense to guide UGA to a 5-0 start, and has Georgia looking like the clear-cut favorite in the SEC East. Will a potential quarterback battle deter Fields?

Alabama's shift to dual-threat quarterbacks in recent years

Alabama has gone with dual-threat quarterbacks to guide its offense three of the last four years, and has had success in doing so. The Tide landed the nation's No. 1 dual-threat in 2016 in Tua Tagovailoa, and has clearly shown its interest in doing so once again with its pursuit of Fields. With the five-star QB in attendance for the Ole Miss game, Alabama's Jalen Hurts put on a dual-threat spectacle passing for 197 yards and two touchdowns, and adding an additional 101 yards and a score on the ground.

The Tide is relatively thin at quarterback

Alabama only has three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster, making for a relatively thin group at the position depending on how you look at it. Jalen Hurts obviously has a wealth of experience guiding the Tide to the College Football Playoff championship last season, Tua Tagovailoa has seen limited time in mop-up duty, and Mac Jones has not yet taken a college snap.

Nick Saban

Not much needed with this one. When Nick Saban and Alabama set their sights on somebody they want in their class, more often than not, they get them. Alabama has after all signed the nation's top-ranked class seven years in a row.

Don't see Fields coming. Jalen isn't going early to the NFL and a junior level Tua would be tough competition. Fields can likely start as a true freshman elsewhere, or sit behind Fromm two years at UGA.

Wonder what happened with Penn State. He's d have 1 yr to sit behind McSorely with a loaded Penn St team the way Franklin has been recruiting.

He isn't beating out a healthy Francois at FSU, so he'd have to sit 2 years there as well.

Not sure cause Penn State looks like a stable program. USC or Auburn would be his best choices for playing early I'm sure. Lets hope it is USC.

As mentioned before, Averett and Wallace are seniors at CB, but Tony Brown and Hootie are also seniors, and then Minkah and Ronnie are sure-fire early entry Draft candidates.

Yep....I just realized that myself. Whole secondary gone this year.

Whole secondary up for grabs in 2018. We get Smith, we can pencil him in at one CB spot, but after that, who knows. Not much out of that 2016 haul except Diggs. Mayden, Carter and Knott will have to step up big time

The entire defense is gonna get gutted. Evans and SDH are Seniors so new ILBs (KH is playing a bit though) and two key OLBs this year will miss the whole season so they'll be a year behind on reps they should've had. Payne and Hand will be gone on the DL.
