7. JJ Peterson, LB: Alabama leads with Auburn and Georgia next. Oregon is another program to watch. Peterson has visited the Tigers three times this year and is extremely close with Auburn linebackers coach Travis Williams. Will that be enough to overtake the Tide? It won't be easy.

8. Quay Walker, LB: The Alabama commit is high on Auburn's wishlist and there are some who don't think his commitment is rock solid. If Walker doesn't end up at Alabama than Auburn and FSU could be the teams to watch and possibly Georgia, too. That Auburn has his former teammate, Big Kat Bryant, certainly helps. Walker plans to visit the Tigers this season.

9. Andres Fox, DE: This is a difficult recruitment to get a handle on. There are four teams in it: Alabama, Auburn, LSU and Stanford. LSU seems to be the most confident at this time. Fox has no set timeframe on when a decision might come. Some programs (see LSU, Alabama) see him as a linebacker. Auburn projects him at end. At around 250 pounds, his future might very well be inside.

t10. Seth Williams and Justyn Ross, WRs: These two practically are interchangeable. They are similar in size and ability. And the Tigers are very much in the hunt with both. At this time, Auburn appears to have a better shot with Willams (pictured). The Tigers really like their chances with him. For Ross, they'll have to fight off Alabama and Clemson for a commitment. Would Auburn take both if it can? Probably.

KN put out a recruiting insider last night. Here's summary

- AU continues to push for 4* CB Kyler McMichael (Clemson commit) & there continues to be buzz his commitment is not firm. AU/UGA would be the expected top two competitors if he opened things up. Look for AU to scout him in person some time this September. Apparently his parents really like AU. KN believes he's AU's top target at CB

- Good chance AU gets 4* TE Luke Ford to take an official visit but keep an eye on 3* TE Nic McTear. He's a former Oklahoma State commit that is in communication with AU. Believed to be a good fit in our offense and he has family in the southeast. He will probably officially visit sometime this fall & KN says AU has made a nice push

- Apparently AU continues to feel good about getting 4* WR Seth Williams and 4* DT Coynis Miller. Both will be visiting Saturday. Apparently other AU commits are confident in getting Miller & Williams continues to say we are recruiting him the hardest

- Sounds like if AU sends a coach on the road this Friday (evaluation period starts in September) it would only be one and would be a defensive coach to state of GA. Weather might prevent them from doing that

- AU is probably done at RB spot though that can always change. Still, AU will continue to evaluate Harold Joiner as he's a guy that could play multiple positions. As of now, Bama & LSU are teams to watch. (FWIW I think he lands at Bama now)

- Keep an eye on 3* LB Caleb Johnson. He's projected to play DL at next level (6'3" 250 lbs) & AU has been evaluating him. Wanted him to camp this summer but didn't happen. But AU still recruiting. UGA/TEN also involved

- 5* QB Justin Fields was in Athens this past weekend and will be at Bama/FSU game. He's also got planned visits already for FSU & UGA. AU working on setting up a visit but not many enticing home games at start of season. Fields has seen an AU game before as he was at the AU/ARK beatdown last season. September 30th might be option when AU hosts Mississippi State. He will be in Athens week before for their MSU game. Continues to say that he plans on waiting to see his top teams perform before making a decision. KN later updated to say that Fields wants to make it to an AU game this fall

COTTONDALE, Ala., -- Could 4-star receiver Seth Williams of Bryant High, who grew up in the shadows of the Crimson Tide, envision himself playing for Auburn?

"Yeah, I could," Williams said. "It's not really hard to picture myself (there). Wherever I fit in, I'll play."

Auburn is one program that stands out to the 6-feet-3, 212-pound Williams, the No. 30 receiver in the 247Sports Composite. Alabama and Ole Miss are two others.

Williams plans to attend Saturday's Auburn-Georgia Southern game at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

He estimated he has visted the Tigers "five, six times."

Auburn has had success with big-bodied receivers before and Williams tracked the careers of former Tigers Sammie Coates and Duke Williams. He said his game compares more to the latter.

"(Auburn) showed me some film on (Williams)," he said. "I really like him and how he played and how he compares to myself."

Williams said he thinks Auburn is primed to pass more under new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, but noted, "The run game always gets the receivers going. No matter where you go, they are going to run the ball."

According to Williams, Auburn has recruited him the hardest.

"They're just always there," Williams said. "When I come there, they make me feel like I'm at home. They're always texting me, letting me know what's up. They aren't going to lie to me or nothing like that."

With Alabama, what stands out?

"The process," Williams said. "How it's been going on for so long and how they've managed to win over and over again."

As for Ole Miss, according to Williams he has never before visited the Rebels but plans to do so in the fall. They will get an official visit.

With Ole Miss, Williams one thing sticks out.

"Their offense -- they throw the ball a lot," Williams said. "It's a receivers dream."

You can listen to our entire interview with Williams by hitting play above.

Hank South says he is going to speak with Coynis Miller today.

Maybe we can get some good news out of him.

Harold Joiner was one of a few recruits who took in Alabama's practice and, for the first time, the Mountain Brook four-star recruit feels that Alabama wants him primarily as a running back.

Joiner, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound four-star recruit, is ranked as the No. 146 recruit nationally in the 247Sports composite and as the nation's No. 5 running back. He is ranked No. 6 on the AL.com preseason A-List.

Joiner is also one of the top overall athletes in the country and many schools have offered, but see him playing a number of positions. However, he wants his first shot at running back.

He rushed for 195 yards on 13 carries, scoring four touchdowns in Mountain Brook's 56-24 win over Gulf Shores on Friday. Joiner played barely more than a half.

"All of the (Alabama) coaches were telling me 'good job,' and that I had a monster game, stuff like that," Joiner said.

He met with head coach Nick Saban and watched practice, noting that not many prospects were invited to the practice and he was one of just a few who were there.

"He thinks I can be a good running back and hasn't really said any other positions," Joiner said. "They think I can be a really good running back for them.

"It made me feel better with the situation and what positions and my primary position and me wanting to play that. It made me feel better."

Normally, Alabama coaches had mentioned other positions, such as tight end or on defense. This visit focused only on running back.

LSU and Michigan State are still Joiner's co-leaders, but Alabama made a move.

"I put them a little bit higher," Joiner said. "They were No. 5 (in my top group), but I'd put them closer to the top. I don't really know how to explain it, but they are closer."

Alabama will watch Joiner more this fall and he will watch the Crimson Tide. He did note that Alabama is deep at running back, but is aware that Bo Scarbrough and Damien Harris are draft-eligible juniors along with LSU's Derrius Guice.

Joiner said he is considering a trip to Atlanta this weekend to see Alabama and Florida State play.

USC, Auburn and Texas are also in Joiner's top group, but he says he has an official visit to UCLA set for the weekend of Oct. 21. He will officially visit LSU the weekend before.

Auburn just took a commitment from Austin High four-star running back Asa Martin. Does that affect Joiner's chances with Auburn? The Tigers have mostly recruited Joiner at running back, but have also mentioned wide receiver.

"I honestly don't know," Joiner said. "I actually haven't been talking to them. Well, I have, but they've just been asking me how my day has been."

Joiner said he wants to make his commitment after taking five official visits. Meanwhile, he's primed to have a huge senior season for the Spartans.

"It's one of the better games he's had," Mountain Brook coach Chris Yeager said. "One of the things I'm proud of is how he pass-protected. Early in the game, I didn't think we were doing as good of a job up front, but Harold just put us on his back and took over."

Joiner was very good in the eyes of national recruiting analysts this spring and summer. The improvement has also been evident in pads.

"Just night and day," Yeager said. "He's really matured, growing up. As we play in the season, the competition is going to get tougher and tougher so he's going to have to elevate and we're oging to have to help him more than we've been helping him."

After watching Kennesaw (Ga.) Harrison play Rome (Ga.) last week, numerous players stood out, but there is one in particular who really improved his stock as a prospect on Rivals.

That was Adam Anderson.

ANALYSIS: Anderson is a nightmare off the edge. It will not be easy for any offensive tackle to contain him this season. He has one of the quickest get-offs in the 2018 class. He has great anticipation and his first step puts him beside or even behind the offensive lineman at the snap numerous times on Friday nights. Anderson's first step, quickness, length and closing speed make his scary. With his strength improved, he is better at the point of attack, and as he improves his pad level, he could be scary. In today's college game, with all the spread offenses, defensive linemen have to be quick to pressure the quarterback because the ball is getting out quicker. Anderson can be that guy. Edge rushers are so valuable and after getting an early look at him as a senior, Anderson's stock is on the rise. He showed he is one of the most explosive defensive ends in the 2018 class. He without question out-played his No. 74 national ranking against Harrison.

COMPARISON: Arden Key

WHY: Frame, length, quickness and speed. They look a lot alike physical and their play is similar as well. Anderson plays a little more consistent than Key and he is a little stronger at this same stage. Both are elite pass rushers.

RECRUITING: What will happen next? Anderson committed to Georgia first before flipping to LSU in April. Now he is uncommitted and evaluating his options. Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia and Tennessee are schools he is looking at. He could commit this week or in three months. Most seem to think he is closer to a decision than he lets on. Does he go back to Georgia, the home-state school? They seem to have some momentum. Alabama is definitely viewed as a true contender as well. You cannot rule out anyone. Anderson has been known to surprise many in recruiting.

Talent doesn’t equal success on the gridiron, but it sure makes winning games a lot easier. The Mid-Atlantic region is dominated by private schools that bring in top talent from all over. Here are the five most talented high school programs in the Mid-Atlantic heading into the 2017 season.

Baltimore St. Frances

Not many people are familiar with St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, but they are making waves in the Washington D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area (DMV). The DMV has long been known as an area where college football teams can find top talent, and St. Frances is doing a great job of bringing in some of the area’s best. Rivals100 defensive end Eyabi Anoma, four-star Maryland offensive line commit Jaelyn Duncan and three-star West Virginia wide receiver commit Randy Fields are just a few of the stars of their senior class. With players like Rivals100 linebacker Shane Lee and high three-stars Joachim Bangda, Darrian Dalcourt and Mississippi State quarterback commit Jalon Jones, the St. Frances junior class is something opponents should fear. Don’t be surprised if St. Frances’ ascension continues in the nest few years.

Looking like Davis and Joiner will be the only two in state guys Bama takes this year.

For some reason it doesn't look like Miller is a priority.

The WR class looks like it will be full before Ross announces. Bama probably could have had Williams, but doesn't look like he is a priority.

The outside LB class will be too full to take Fox.

West would have been a take, but can't blame him for going to Stanford.

Probably offered Martin too late and basically told him he wouldn't be a every down back for Bama.

Unless we get both Waddle and Terance Marshall to commit, Ross will be in our class. That is, barring something unforeseen in his evaluation by our staff.

Alabama is in the top six for Trevor Trout, a four-star defensive tackle from Saint Louis (Mo.) Chaminade, which he announced late Tuesday night on Twitter.

Along with the Crimson Tide, Georgia, Miami, Missouri, UCLA, and USC made the cut in no specific order.

At 6-foot-3, 315 pounds, Trout is rated the No. 16 defensive tackle and the No. 186 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. The Tigers lead the Crystal Ball at 100 percent.

Alabama currently has one defensive linemen committed in its 2018 class in Stephon Wynn.

With Dunbar barely talking to Miller, something has to be up.

You would think a position coach would talk to the recruits that might come play for him.

Maybe one of y'all can answer this, but does our staff get assigned to players based on region instead of position? Even if that's true, I agree it's weird that Dunbar doesn't communicate with him enough.

Of course, Miller could just be talking out of his arse...

Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Auburn Tigers football recruiting notebook with Auburn recruiting beat writer Benjamin Wolk. It’s Wednesday, and we look at the future of the tight end position. Also, who are the early confirmed visitors?

LINK

quote:

The fate of the tight end position

One of the most befuddling positions for Auburn — both on the roster and on the recruiting trail — is tight end.

How will offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey utilize the position? Can Jalen Harris be the guy? Why is Sal Cannella viewed more as a wide receiver? Where was John Samuel Shenker in the two-deep depth chart? What kind of prospect will the Tigers look for going forward?

These are all questions that are likely to be answered early in the 2017 season. And several recruits will have their eyes set on those results. For now, there are four tight ends who are firmly on Auburn’s recruiting radar in the 2018 class — though expect the list to grow if the position is utilized effectively this season.
