Memphis (Tenn.) Cordova offensive tackle Jerome Carvin will announce a commitment on Wednesday, Aug. 16, he tells BamaOnLine.

The three-star lineman says his finalists are Alabama, Mississippi State, and Tennessee.

Carvin, who is being recruited as a guard by the Crimson Tide, last visited Tuscaloosa for the Champions Cookout in July.

"They definitely shook up some things for me," Carvin said of Bama after the visit. "Really had me thinking."

The Tide offered Carvin earlier this year, and has since hosted the Tennessee product at least three times on campus.

At 6-foot-4, 325 pounds, Carvin is rated the No. 30 offensive tackle and the No. 375 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

The Tide leads the Crystal Ball as it stands, with the Vols right behind.

Best of luck to him at Tennessee.

Alabama’s Class of 2018 has 10 commitments with four months remaining until recruits can sign a National Letter of Intent.

With those 10 slots filled, the Crimson Tide are almost halfway finished with their class. Nick Saban said Alabama can only sign 22 players in the 2018 class because the Crimson Tide had three players on a delayed enrollment plan in the 2017 class (Jarez Parks is a grayshirt and both Hunter Brannon and Joseph Bulovas are blueshirts.)

Alabama will likely have more than half of its class filled by the time the season rolls around, which is where the Crimson Tide staff expected to be by the Florida State game Sept. 2 in Atlanta.

Here’s a glance at where things stand for the 2018 class:

Where Alabama’s class ranks

Alabama’s 2018 class is ranked No. 26 nationally and No. 8 in the SEC, according to the 247Sports composite. Seven of the Tide’s 10 commits are 4-star recruits. Eight of them will play in either the Under Armour All-America Game, U.S. Army All-American Bowl or the Polynesian Bowl in January. The Tide also have the third highest average star rating in the 2018 class, as they are only behind Ohio State and Texas. This class will be elite come signing day, though it may fall short of the No. 1 class, which would be the first time in seven years.

Latest news

Alabama received two commitments this past week, one from center/guard prospect Jarrett Bell and another from Jack linebacker prospect Cameron Latu. Bell earned a committable offer from Alabama after a dominant performance at the team’s camp last month. Latu has been a priority for the Tide since the start of the year. Getting both on board was a big win for the team.

5 top targets

quote:

5-star quarterback Tanner McKee, Corona, Calif.

Of the elite quarterbacks in the 2018 class, McKee makes the most sense for Alabama to sign because he’s effectively a 2020 recruit. After graduating from Centennial High School, McKee will do a two-year LDS mission. That means the young depth chart currently in Tuscaloosa won’t matter to him. McKee will take an official visit to Alabama in November for the LSU game.

5-star cornerback Tyson Campbell, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Campbell is Alabama’s top cornerback target, which is important because the Crimson Tide need several at the position this year after signing zero in the 2017 class. The nation’s No. 3 corner visited Tuscaloosa on July 24 where sources inside the program say Alabama hit a home run on that trip.

5-star Jack linebacker KJ Henry, Clemmons, N.C.

Henry recently released a top 5, and Alabama made the cut. His recruitment is shaping up to be an Alabama-Clemson race. Both schools feel confident where they stand with Henry.

4-star linebacker JJ Peterson, Moultrie, Ga.

Peterson has been Alabama’s top linebacker target, and it should be a matter of when and not if he’s going to commit to the Crimson Tide. His head coach at Colquitt County is Rush Propst, who is very close with Tide defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.

4-star wide receiver Justyn Ross, Phenix City, Ala.

Ross is Alabama’s No. 1 wide receiver target. His recruitment should come down to the Crimson Tide, Auburn and Clemson. ‘Bama feels confident it will land the in-state prospect.

19. DE Brandon Mack

I think this dude will end up a top 10 player. Reminds me of where Andres Fox was at this time last season

Really excited about the 2019 class in general but specifically state of Alabama. Some real elite talent and a lot of solid players as well. Doesn't look like Kenneth Bothwell is rated yet either but he's name to track as well

I barely have time to watch 2018 film, let alone 2019.
