OT Max Wray
The Rivals250 offensive lineman committed to Georgia right when his recruiting was starting to take off in 2016, but he has since decommitted and several programs have jumped back in the mix in recent weeks. Ohio State, UCLA, Miami and Texas have offered over the past month and Wray is exploring his options. He's recently visited Alabama, Clemson and Texas and is expected to be at Tennessee later this month. Despite already having a very impressive offer list, he's probably not done collecting offers.

DE Andres Fox
Florida State, Georgia and some other schools outside his home state of Alabama have his attention but, like most of the top prospects in Yellowhammer State, Fox's recruitment will likely come down to Alabama and Auburn. He is quiet and does not give too much away when in comes to recruiting, but we know he grew up a fan of the Crimson Tide. With that said, he has a great relationship with the Auburn staff, the Tigers offered first and the school on the Plains will give the Crimson Tide a battle here.

We didn't make the cut for QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
He's the guy who has backed up Tate Martell for the past two years and has a total of 40 snaps at QB.

2019 Hewitt-Trussville OT Pierce Quick had this to say about his visit yesterday:
quote:
“It was incredible. It’s great every time I go,” Quick told BamaOnLine. “Today was better than others. It was really, really good.”
Having the opportunity to watch the Tide practice was a moment that made this trip stand out compared to others.
“They look really good, especially for a first practice,” Quick said. “I think they’re going to have a really good year again this year. It was great getting to watch those guys. It’s awesome to know they can get those guys in every year. Their depth on the offensive line is great. Alex Leatherwood, he’s a big dude. He’s going to do really good at Alabama.
“I think the offense this year is going to be better than any year. It looks really good.”

Another Alabama-LSU recruiting war is here
NEW ORLEANS — At the start of this year, Kelvin Joseph told SEC Country that LSU was worried about losing his commitment. The Tigers had reason to because he admits he was very close to flipping to Alabama last summer after several visits to Tuscaloosa.
Not much has changed for Joseph and his interest level in Alabama. The 4-star cornerback from Scotlandville Magnet High School (Baton Rouge, La.) told SEC Country over the weekend at the New Orleans Opening regional that he still thinks the Tigers are worried about losing him to the Crimson Tide.
“They don’t mention it to me anymore, but you can tell when I visited Alabama a lot over the summer that they were (nervous),” Joseph said.
The nation’s No. 5 cornerback — according to 247Sports composite rankings — said he’s “90 percent committed” to LSU. The other 10 percent is missing because Joseph said he needs to see how LSU does this season under Ed Orgeron in his first full year in Baton Rouge.
Joseph said the Tigers need to have a winning season — but 7-6 isn’t good enough — for him to remain committed to LSU.
“I want to play for a national championship team and change the program around,” Joseph said. “I feel like I can do that at Alabama because they work hard every single day. They can put me into a position where I can succeed.”
Joseph, who was invited to the prestigious Nike Opening finals at the company’s headquarters in Oregon this summer, said he hears weekly from Alabama defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley. That doesn’t compare to LSU’s recruitment of Joseph, who hears from the Tigers every single day.
That’s important to him because he said whichever team makes him feel like the biggest priority will have a big advantage when he shores up his commitment in the future. Ansley has made it known to Joseph that he is important to the Tide’s Class of 2018 plans.
“I need you here; that’s what coach Ansley basically says every time we talk,” Joseph said.
The Baton Rouge native would be the third prospect in the past two classes from LSU’s city to commit to Alabama if he ended up flipping. In the Class of 2017, the Tide landed 5-star linebacker Dylan Moses and 4-star linebacker Christopher Allen out of Baton Rouge.
Don’t expect a final decision from Joseph any time soon. The reason why he didn’t de-commit or flip this past summer is because he said “nothing would have changed” his recruitment status because there’s plenty of time to go until National Signing Day.
Multiple sources close to Joseph’s recruitment have told SEC Country that Joseph has been close to de-committing from LSU multiple times. If he did back off his recruitment at some point down the road, Alabama would be the clear team to watch. Cornerback is arguably the biggest position of need for the Tide in the Class of 2018 after not signing any at the position in 2017.
Joseph had 72 tackles, 7 for loss with 2 sacks, 5 interceptions, 16 pass breakups and 3 defensive touchdowns last season.
LSU should be pretty decent with the schedule they have, so I don't think they will go near 7-6. 9-3 is what I think they end up with.

Tide looking at Mississippi State WR commit at different position
Malik Heath, a 4-star wide receiver from Callaway High School (Jackson, Miss.), said he’s 100 percent committed to Mississippi State, but it took him a few seconds to answer whether he actually was solid with the Bulldogs.
Heath said his options are open despite him saying he’s all in with Mississippi State. One of the schools he’s still considering is Alabama. Heath said he’s been to Tuscaloosa five or six times for visits.
“Alabama is always going to be up there for me because of who they are,” Heath told SEC Country. “They practice like NFL players.”
Though he’s rated as the nation’s No. 38 wide receiver in the Class of 2018, Alabama is recruiting Heath at safety. He doesn’t mind playing safety in college because he wants to do whatever it takes to see the field early when he gets to the next level.
Because he’s been to Tuscaloosa several times, he’s already acclimated to the campus. Heath said Alabama doesn’t compare to the other schools he’s visited.
“It’s just different at Alabama,” Heath said. “They just work so hard there. Everything is so different. Alabama is just so strict and they prepare you for the NFL.”
Despite his familiarity with the Crimson Tide, Heath said they are either third or fourth on his list of favorites. Mississippi State is still No. 1, followed by Tennessee and either Alabama or Louisville for his No. 3 spot.
For now, Heath remains focused on the Bulldogs.
“It feels great to be committed to Mississippi State because they’ve showed me a lot of love over the years,” Heath said. “When I’m on campus, they always tell me how much they need me.”

Nation’s No. 1 OT can see himself fitting in at Alabama
Devontae Dobbs made his first trip to Tuscaloosa on Tuesday to check out the start of Alabama’s spring practice. He came away impressed with two things in particular — Nick Saban and the weight room.
Dobbs, the nation’s No. 1 offensive tackle in the Class of 2019 from Belleville (Mich.) High School, told SEC Country that he could see himself fitting in with the culture at Alabama when he makes his college decision.
“If my decision is to go here, then yes, because they have players doing what I want do,” Dobbs said. “They work hard and they make it clear that you are not going to be given anything.”

Mother of top QB explains why Alabama isn’t being considered; will Tide struggle to land top 2018 QB? | SEC Country
quote:
Brian Daboll was hired to be Alabama’s offensive coordinator on Feb. 17. Since then, the Crimson Tide have offered six quarterback prospects: Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Dakereon Joyner, Tanner McKee, Matt Corral (committed to Southern California), Emory Jones (Ohio State) and Jack Tuttle (Utah).
One of those six has eliminated Alabama from contention. Four-star dual-threat prospect Thompson-Robinson eliminated the Tide from his list of favorite schools on Tuesday night. He will not consider Alabama moving forward. The main reason why is because of his and his mother’s lack of relationship with Nick Saban and Brian Daboll.
“We have had relationships with other schools and their coaches for months now,” Dorian’s mother, Melva Thompson-Robinson told SEC Country. “Choosing schools is not indicative of issues or problems. At the end of the day, he can only go to one school in Fall 2018, so a lot of schools are not going to be that final choice.”
?Because Mac Jones (left) and Tua Tagovailoa (right) enter Alabama as top freshmen quarterbacks, are other Class of 2018 signal-callers getting scared off from competing with young, talented QBs? (Chris Kirschner/SEC Country)
What Thompson-Robinson touches on is critical in recruiting — relationships. Now, the Alabama staff will get on the road in mid-April to visit quarterbacks around the country when the evaluation period gets going and the team will host several QBs when it has its quarterback camp in early June. The staff will get that face time it needs.
The one quarterback in the Class of 2018 who I thought Alabama had a great shot at landing because of a longstanding relationship was Jack West, who’s from Saraland (Ala.) High School. West committed to Stanford over Alabama, and is not considering the Tide moving forward. He’s locked in with the Cardinal.
Trevor Lawrence, the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect, still is being courted by Alabama, but he is locked in with Clemson. Jacob Sirmon, a 5-star prospect, is headed to Washington where his father is a professor. His brother also is committed to the Huskies. Emory Jones actively is recruiting for Ohio State, and so is Matt Corral for USC and Jack Tuttle for Utah; Justin Fields is 100 percent committed to Penn State, he says.
But I think the biggest issue Alabama is going to have in the Class of 2018 is convincing a top-flight quarterback to sit behind three young, talented quarterbacks. Jalen Hurts led the Tide to the national championship game as a freshman. Tua Tagovailoa enters as the nation’s No. 1 dual-threat prospect and an Army All-American. Mac Jones was the starting QB of Team USA in the 19-U game.
If Tagovailoa and Jones both pan out, it’s possible the prospective ’18 quarterback doesn’t play until 2020...
In today’s college football landscape, there’s a 50-s0 shot that Jones and/or Tagovailoa will transfer. Exactly 50 percent of the top 50 quarterbacks in each recruiting class from 2011 to 2014 transferred. Cooper Bateman, David Cornwell and Blake Barnett all transferred when it was clear Hurts was Alabama’s quarterback of the future.
The Tide will need to convince one of these elite quarterback prospects to make the trek to Tuscaloosa this spring or summer and hope he falls in love with Alabama like Tagovailoa did last year. When Tagovailoa and his family visited, Southern California was his leader and proclaimed dream school. The Tide changed his mind on that in a week.
With the way the quarterback dominos are falling this year, it’s looking like a similar situation is going to need to happen this year.
Even though the depth chart at Alabama is thin with only three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster, it’s not ideal for a top recruit because all three are young. Despite the Tide being a top team every single year, it may be a tough sell for Saban and Daboll to convince a top quarterback to commit to Alabama.

Tiffany Harmon didn't think her oldest son would remember a time of being displaced from their home.
After all, Jordan Davis, now a 6-foot-5, 240-pound Alabama football commit as a defensive end/outside linebacker, was just 5 years old when they lived in Jacksonville, Fla., but there was a very short time, she said, where there were financial struggles and nights would be spent at a shelter.
But it shaped Davis into the young man that he has become.
Davis, who was born in Greenville, Miss., before living in Jacksonville for a short time and then settling in Memphis, committed to Alabama early last December. It came not long after a visit for the Iron Bowl. He exploded onto the recruiting scene after earning a spot among the top five defensive linemen at the New Orleans Opening Regional in 2016. He was among the top five this year as well, but is still awaiting the invite for The Opening Finals in Beaverton, Ore., this summer.
Harmon is still emotional when thinking about her son's commitment to Alabama, and their commitment to him.
"I'm still taking it in," Harmon said Sunday in New Orleans. "It really didn't hit until Nick Saban came to the school (during evaluation period). Are we for real? Overjoyed at first. I was still in shock and humbled because I wasn't quite familiar with the whole process, but honored to know that Nick Saban took the time to come to the actual school. Not a phone call, not sending someone, but coming himself."
Davis, a three-star recruit in the 247Sports composite who preps at Southwind High School, had a special message for his mother after he committed.
"I told my mom, the struggles are over," Davis said. "I promise you, the struggles are fixing to be over. Alabama has players known for going to the NFL, that's for a fact. Helping my mom get out of her struggles is one thing I thought about when I committed to Alabama."
As Davis grew up, he realized early on that he needed to be there when his mother and younger brother, 12-year-old Jaylen, needed him. He'd take on babysitting duties and other added chores along with his normal school day and football practice.
"He saw the struggle that I went through as far as living from place to place, changing jobs, even to the point of working two jobs and him having to babysit," Harmon said.
"That's his thing, saying we're going to be all right. You don't want to put the weight of that on a child, but he sees and knows where the help is needed."
Hometown Memphis was Davis' first offer. Alabama was his second, coming on that Iron Bowl visit last Nov. 26. He announced his commitment two weeks later. Since then, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Georgia, LSU and Florida have all offered him a scholarship.
But he knew where he wanted to go late in the Iron Bowl, which Alabama won 30-12 over Auburn.
"In the third quarter, the stadium starting blowing up," Davis said, describing the atmosphere.
"I was like, 'Wow, people really love the game of football.' I love the game of football, I'm very dedicated to the game of football. Once that hit me that the stadium was glowing because of this one game, I was like, 'This is the place.' They're dedicated. They're straight business."
And then he started to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Davis still knows there's a long way to go to reach his goals. With every bit of support from his mother, Davis is chasing his college football and NFL dreams, but not bypassing the major steps along the way.
"We have a motto - don't settle for average," Harmon said. "I say that I know he wants to play in the NFL and get to college, but understand the business and your business is academics. He's definitely chimed in on that double-hard. He takes night classes, anything to get ahead. He probably has a good 12-hour day."
Things have gotten "300 percent better" for Harmon and the family. She now works in the health care field.
Davis remains strong with his Alabama commitment even as others pursue. Harmon now says she's glad Davis remembers the short time of displacement when he was younger. He and a friend volunteer with a homeless shelter at least twice per month.
Davis' star is on the rise as he's still growing into his long frame and size 15 shoes.
"He has his own meal tab," Harmon joked. "God is able, so he's been able to provide and I'm thankful for that, I really am."

Davis sounds like a great kid. I'm glad he's coming to Alabama.

One of the hottest prospects in the nation this spring has been Mobile Christian defensive end Andres Fox, as major offers are piling up, one after the other.
Auburn offered last fall. Alabama has offered this spring. Schools as far away as USC and Oregon have also offered the 6-foot-4, 232-pound Fox, who helped lead Mobile Christian to the Class 3A state championship last fall.
He said on Sunday at the New Orleans Opening Regional that it's been overwhelming, and his recent narrowing to six schools - Alabama, Auburn, Florida, USC, Florida State and Georgia - can help ease that.
Fox, a three-star recruit on the 247Sports composite, earned Final 5 defensive lineman honors at the regional.
Schools like Fox based on his potential and how quick he is off the ball. Here's what he said about his top six on Sunday.
Alabama - "They tell me that that's where all the great players go and if you want to be great, go here. It's stable and Nick Saban isn't going anywhere."
Auburn - "I really like (assistant) Rodney Garner and their defense is really good. I think they're going to have a great season this year."
Alabama likes Fox at outside linebacker, but thinks he can also grow into a defensive end. Auburn likes Fox at the BUCK/defensive end position.
Florida State - "I like Jimbo Fisher. It's stable and he's not going anywhere."
Georgia - "I like (assistant) Coach (Kevin) Sherrer. He sends a lot of outside linebackers to the league."
USC - "I just built up a great relationship with (assistant) Coach (Kenechi) Udeze."
Florida - "I went to the camp and I really liked how (assistant) Coach (Chris) Rumph was coaching."
Fox said stability was a big thing he's looking for. He isn't sure when he'll make a commitment, but added that it could come before the season.

Alabama and Auburn are pursuing interior linemen in this recruiting class, and both like what they see in Cordova, Tenn., standout Jerome Carvin.
Carvin, who measured in at 6-foot-4 and 330 pounds on Sunday at the New Orleans Opening Regional, said he has good relationships with Alabama offensive line coach Brent Key and Auburn offensive line coach Herb Hand.
Both schools have offered Carvin, a three-star recruit in the 247Sports composite.
"They like how I move," Carvin said. "They say I can really move being as big as I am and I'm relentless."
Alabama offered Carvin before a recent Junior Day.
"That was a big offer for me," Carvin said. I've been talking to them since tenth grade and I've been there about four times. I know almost everything about Alabama."
He'll make his first trip to Auburn on April 8 for the spring game. He plans to visit Alabama again sometime in April, either before or during the spring game on April 22.
Other schools in the mix include Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Kentucky, Louisville, Missouri and Memphis.
Carvin said Alabama's facilties, weight room and tradition stand out. He said he talks to Hand every day on the Auburn side, and knows former Auburn offensive tackle Shon Coleman.
He is being recruited as a guard by both schools.
When asked what he's most looking for, Carvin said, "Academics first. My development as a player on the offensive line. Weight room, having a good strength and conditioning program and the team as a whole. I don't have to play right away, but I want to get developed and I want to be ready."
He described his relentless motor as something he can bring to a team, along with positive attitude and effort.
Carvin said he wants to make his commitment before his senior season at Cordova High School.
