TideSaint - I live in Fayetteville NC - if you ever get a chance to visit here (Bragg/Pope) you should check out the museum downtown. They have a "Black Hawk Down" section with some of the actual helicopter parts from the crash site.

From TigerPaw:

quote:

In a nutshell ...

-Love the Q. Monday commitment. Long arms, lean. Can do a lot of things. Once he packs on weight, could be a menace at safety.

-Think AU is team to beat (for now) with 4-star DT Coynis Miller.

-Think WR Matthew Hill, LB Michael Harris or even Buck Richard Jibunor could be next to commit.

-Think if AU lands 5-star QB Justin Fields, it could help with other recruits. Have had a few (they asked me not to mention their names) tell me it would impact.

-Auburn is in a dogfight with S. Carolina for 4-star OT Dylan Wonnum. Brother plays for the Gamecocks. But the Tigers are in it.

-Think the Tigers finally have some momentum and really believe they'll have double-digit commits by the end of July.

-With Monday on board, think the safety to watch now is Jamien Sherwood of Florida. He'll likely visit next weekend.

-While Georgia is the clear leader for elite RB James Cook, the fact he plans to visit AU this month certainly is interesting. Maybe it's not entirely over just yet.

Also KN emphasized that apparently Garner is the main reason we might be leading for Miller. He's his area and position recruiting and the two are really close. KN says they interact a ton and it means a lot to Coynis

Quarterback Justin Fields has experienced a meteoric rise from a potential football recruit hoping for his first offer to the No. 1 prospect in the newly updated ESPN 300. He has a commitment and a decommitment under his belt, and has gradually generated interest from major programs. Now, all the attention is on him.

Here's a look at how Fields got to this point in his recruitment, and what took place along the way.

April, 2016: Fields, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound unranked QB in the ESPN Junior 300, is unsure if schools are noticing his talent. While he has only finished his sophomore season, many prospects are already seeing offers roll in.

"I remember in April, he was talking to his speed and agility coach, and he was stressed about not having any offers," said Fields' mom, Gina Tobey. "Then his coach was like, don't worry about it, it'll come and sure enough North Carolina was the first to offer. His coach said when one comes, the floodgates will open and that's what happened."

May 5, 2016: Fields receives his first offer from North Carolina.

June, 2016: Fields receives offers from nine schools. As a testament to his academics as well as his athletics, Duke, Northwestern, Vanderbilt and Harvard are among the schools that offer him scholarships.

"Harvard was one of the first offers that [Fields] had," Tobey said. "I wanted him to go to Harvard, but he said, 'Mom that's not enough football for me,' so I said, ok what about Duke? That still wasn't enough football for him."

July 17, 2016: Penn State holds a summer camp, which Fields attends. After seeing him in person, the staff makes Fields an offer the very same day.

September, 2016: Other big programs take interest in Fields. Arizona, Indiana, Louisville, Missouri, Nebraska, Ole Miss, South Carolina and TCU all throw offers on the table. Fields also travels to Penn State in September, marking his second visit to campus.

November, 2016:
The Nittany Lions get another unofficial visit. Fields, who hails from Kennesaw, Georgia, also pays his in-state team in Athens a visit. The Bulldogs offer Fields shortly after the visit.

December 1, 2016:
Fields commits to Penn State.

"He was feeling a little pressure to commit," Tobey said. "If someone commits before me and I don't have that opportunity anymore, then I don't have that choice anymore. It was no pressure from the coaches, just his position.

"At the point he committed to Penn State, he might have had 20 something offers. At that point, Penn State had great academics and football tradition, so that was the happy medium for us."

December 12: The ESPN Junior 300 rankings are updated with Fields at No. 8 overall.

February, 2017: Alabama, Oregon and Florida all offer Fields.

April, 2017:
Florida State receives a visit from Fields, and the Seminoles extend an offer shortly.

"Schools kept coming and his stock kept rising," Tobey said. "Then he was second-guessing his choice. That was what we were afraid of in the beginning, but [prospects] feel so much pressure."

April 20, 2017: Updated ESPN 300 rankings are released. Fields is now a five-star and No. 4 overall.

June 6, 2017: Fields decommits from Penn State.

"The reason I decommitted was to make sure that Penn State was the best fit for me," Fields said. "Calling Coach (James) Franklin and the staff was probably the hardest phone call I've ever had to make, but I feel like it was the best decision for me and my family."

June, 2017: Now that he's decommitted, Fields pays visits to Georgia, Auburn and Florida State on consecutive days from June 12-14. He then stops by Florida on June 20. Finally, he and his family visit Alabama at the end of June -- a trip that coincides with his sister's softball schedule.

This was a big month for Fields; the five-star QB decommitted from the Nittany Lions, took four unofficial visits and added an offer from USC on June 25.

July 13, 2017: The ESPN 300 rankings are updated, and Fields moves up to No. 1 overall. Former USC quarterback Matt Barkley is the only QB other than Fields to ever claim the No. 1 spot in ESPN's rankings, so the Georgia native is joining rare company.

Fields will visit Auburn this weekend and make another trip to Georgia shortly thereafter. His sister, Jaiden, is committed to play softball for the Bulldogs.

So if you read the article above you know ESPN updated their rankings.

I don't have time to type out our targets/commitments right now due to a meeting in 15 minutes, but I will when that's over.

For now, here's the link to the rankings:

Just a quick note regarding the new ESPN rankings.

Patrick Surtain is ranked #6 overall.

Tyson Campbell is ranked #8 overall.

They play in the same defensive backfield.

Since we are talking about military I thought I would post this. I just saw it yesterday

quote:

“I find myself sitting in the parking lot at Kroger trying to compose myself. You see, while inside getting groceries, I came upon a little girl prancing down the isle making a crazy noise. I turned around to see this young lady wearing massive boots compared to her tiny body.”
quote:

At first I just giggled and continued shopping. I ended up in the check out lane behind her and her mother. As good southerners do, we struck up conversation. I told the little girl that I liked her boots. She had a massive grin on her face and began to speak. She let me know that those boots belonged to her Daddy. Today would have been his birthday, but he was killed last year in ‘Afghan Stan.’ To feel better about today, she was allowed to wear his boots. As her mom started to cry, so did I, as did the cashier.

quote:

Apparently, the gentleman behind me heard the story and gave the little girl a cupcake out of the dozen he was buying. He told the little girl to always eat a cupcake for her dad’s birthday. He told her that her dad was a hero and that she should be proud to be his daughter.”

When I go home people'll ask me, "Hey Hoot, why do you do it man? What, you some kinda war junkie?" You know what I'll say? I won't say a goddamn word. Why? They won't understand. They won't understand why we do it. They won't understand that it's about the men next to you, and that's it. That's all it is.

That right there because unless you were in you really can not comprehend. I met my wife after I got out and in the beginning she would ask every now and then about my time in but I never responded because she would not be able to comprehend especially if I scared the hell out of her at night in my sleep she would try and understand. I think people want to understand but you have to live it.

In regards to BHD I knew several of those guys. My unit pulled out of the Mog a few months before that went down. Another reason anyone in a light blue helmet/beret should be considered the enemy because of their lack of competence to be in the field caused most of that shite storm.

Yep. Being in has certainly changed my way of thinking. Like I said, I was a grown arse man when I joined and had no idea the bond existed the way it does in the service even after having two grandfather's stories to lean on.

Micah Parsons making his first visit to Tuscaloosa this weekend

Alabama will host one of its top overall targets in the Class of 2018 for the first time this weekend.

Micah Parsons, a 5-star defensive end from Harrisburg (Pa.) High School, will arrive in Tuscaloosa on Sunday and leave on Tuesday. That’s enough time for the Crimson Tide to gain some serious momentum in the nation’s No. 1 weakside defensive end’s recruitment.

Parsons is looking forward to seeing the hype of Alabama.

“I want to see what it’s all about,” Parsons told SEC Country. “All I’ve heard is Alabama is this and Alabama is that. Why aren’t you going to Alabama? Alabama is always the No. 1 contender for championships. I want to see their development, how can they benefit me, how can they use me because I’m a man who can be used in many ways besides defensive end.”

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound prospect is one of the best athletes in this recruiting cycle. So good that Alabama has actually shown interest in Parsons playing running back and Jack linebacker. Though he’s rated on defense, he does have potential on the offensive side of the ball, too. He helped lead his high school team to the state championship while rushing for 10 touchdowns in the postseason alone.

Still, Parsons doesn’t really know if the Crimson Tide is serious about his chance at playing running back if he did commit to the team. Even then, he’s aware of Alabama’s depth at running back.

“[Outside linebackers] coach Tosh [Lupoi] said we still [looking at you at] running back, but I’m thinking, ‘You’ve got Bo [Scarbrough], you’ve got Damien Harris, you’ve got Najee [Harris].’ I don’t know how that is going to go. Talk is cheap. They’ll tell you anything you want to hear.”

He’s right. Coaches, sometimes, say whatever to prospects in order to get them to commit. It happens all of the time. But, there are multiple schools that have told Parsons he would have the chance to play running back, too.

Parsons, who said he’s also considering Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State, won’t make his commitment until January. Since de-committing from Penn State in April, the thought is Parsons will commit to Ohio State. After all, he did name his dog Brutus, which is the name of the Buckeyes’ mascot.

However, Ohio State is the only school he’s strongly considering that hasn’t offered him the opportunity to play both ways. Parsons has also said he believes his best fit on the next level is in a 3-4 defense, which is what Alabama runs. The Crimson Tide see him playing weakside defensive end and outside linebacker.

The Army All-American is fully aware of all the success Alabama has had at churning out draft prospects at linebacker over the years. It’s one of the main reasons why he’s so high on the Tide without ever stepping foot on campus yet.

“Top contenders, development, how they can endlessly put players in the No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 rounds of the NFL draft,” Parsons said of why he likes Alabama. “They always have top picks. Alabama’s just that team.”

Expect Alabama to become a serious contender for Parsons after this visit.

Two more names added to Champions Cookout list

SEC Country posted an early look at the recruits expected to be on campus next weekend for Alabama’s Champions Cookout, which is the Crimson Tide’s premier recruiting event of the summer. Every year Alabama gets the majority of its top targets on campus, and this year is no different.

When we posted the tentative list on Wednesday, two names weren’t listed that we should have included — 4-star Alabama defensive end/outside linebacker commit Jordan Davis and 3-star offensive guard Jerome Carvin. Davis told SEC Country late Wednesday night that he’ll be in Tuscaloosa next weekend and he’ll be bringing Carvin with him.

If Carvin does follow through with his plans to visit, he will be on commitment watch. He’s one of the team’s top offensive guard targets in this class.

1. ALABAMA

Five-star RB Najee Harris, the top-rated prospect in the entire 2017 class, is from Antioch, Calif., but he signed with the Crimson Tide. So did Hawaii’s best prospect, four-star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, and five-star JUCO OL Elliot Baker from City College of San Francisco. Alabama has proven it can go anywhere to get anybody and the West region is no exception.

The previous recruiting cycle, five-star OL Jonah Williams from Folsom, Calif., picked the Crimson Tide. Assistant coach Tosh Lupoi has tremendous connections in the region and aggressively goes after top talent. Five-star quarterback Matt Corral, four-star DB Isaac Taylor-Stuart, four-star OT Tommy Brown and others are some top 2018 targets. UCLA commit Chris Steele, a 2019 four-star defensive back, is expected to visit Alabama in the coming weeks. Even in Utah, Alabama has targeted four-stars Penei Sewell and Cameron Latu. The Crimson Tide are all over the West.

We have really hit the West Coast hard under Saban.

The only guy I remember Shula grabbing was that fat arse Jimmy Barnes.

DANIELS TO VISIT MICHIGAN

A big visit is coming up for 2019 five-star quarterback JT Daniels.

He will be at Michigan in the next few weeks and one of the most important things for the Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei star is to sit down and get more familiar with coach Jim Harbaugh and passing game coordinator Pep Hamilton.

Daniels is super smart and knows what he wants – a pro-style offense where he can thrive and that will also prepare him for a possible NFL future. No schools with spread offenses are being considered.

That’s one reason why Michigan has a real shot. Another is because of the NFL pedigree of Harbaugh and Hamilton. I think USC and Stanford are out front right now but this trip to Ann Arbor could definitely be a major one.

Getting Tommy Brown on board would really help with Daniels. They made the trip to Tuscaloosa together earlier this summer.

TAYLOR-STUART BREAKS IT DOWN

Ohio State is still a major frontrunner for four-star defensive back Isaac Taylor-Stuart but Texas A&M is emerging as a legitimate contender as well.

The San Diego (Calif.) Helix standout who was outstanding at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge presented by adidas this summer said he loves the coaching staff in College Station and has befriended a bunch of commits over the last few months.

Official visits to those two schools are almost certain and USC remains a top player as well although it seems like the Buckeyes and Aggies have really captured his attention this summer.

Unofficial visits to Illinois and Oregon could also happen soon. My gut feeling is that Ohio State and USC look best – even though he hasn’t visited with the Buckeyes yet – and he’s going to keep a close watch on A&M. If he takes an official visit to College Station then the Aggies could move way up.

So this kid names us his leader and now we aren't even mentioned with him. I hope he gets back on campus soon to rekindle that relationship.
