Really cool post put together by TigerPaw over on the Auburn board:

July Recruiting Snapshot
Another month means another post where I vomit words all over your screen... This is a subjective overview of where AU stands with many of their top targets and where they might stand on our board based off what I have read from various outlets. No doubt stuff is wrong but should at least let those who don't follow closely get a quick and easy understanding of where things are
Commits
4* QB Joey Gatewood
4* DE/DT Daquan Newkirk
3* OG/C Jalil Irvin
3* RB Shaun Shivers

QB
5* Justin Fields --> AU/FSU/UF/UGA battle with every team's insiders saying they lead
5* Emory Jones --> OHST commit that seems locked in with Buckeyes

WR
5* Justyn Ross --> AU/CLEM recruiting hardest but BAMA always lurking

OG
4* Trey Hill --> AU probably running #3 behind UGA & CLEM

Xavier Lanier --> visited for BCW, big senior year or camp could lead to offer
S
4* Quindarious Monday --> looking like he's all CLEM right now but will visit AU soon
3* Jamien Sherwood --> AU has emerged as the probable leader. MIA still one to watch
3* Joseph Foucha --> LSU has offered and it's changed the game. Feeling is AU still leads but if LSU really wants em might not go well for AU

Class Prediction

Jaycee Horn has pushed back his planned announcement on July 15th and will now visit Tennessee on July 20th.
There's been questions raised on BOL on whether he holds a committable offer or not.
One "insider" said he doesn't because the staff feels good about Jobe and Campbell. As always, TIFWIW.

Four-star tight end Luke Ford from Carterville, Ill., holds scholarship offers from some of the nation's biggest football programs.
LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Michigan, Arkansas, Georgia and many others have extended offers to the 6-foot-6, 250-pounder.
Ford took an unofficial visit to LSU on the last Saturday in June. Two weeks prior to his visit to Baton Rouge, Ford decommitted from Arkansas. The 2018 prospect participated in Nike's The Opening over the weekend, and said Alabama is his current leader, according to AL.com.
"Alabama would probably be first," he told AL.com. "Everyone else is kind of around there. I really don't have an order."
He visited Alabama on June 17 followed by a trip to Auburn on the 18th.
The report says Ford will likely wait to commit on National Signing Day or at the Under Armour All-America Game.
"I want to make a well-informed decision," Ford said, adding, "Everybody's in the race, so I want to visit more schools."
Ford is the No. 4 tight end in the country, per 247 Sports, and No. 1 recruit in Illinois.

The prospect with the most unique recruiting situation at Nike's The Opening over the weekend was Corona, Calif., quarterback Tanner McKee.
The five-star recruit won't begin his college career until the fall of 2020. He is taking a two-year Mormon mission. Some schools, he said, had a problem with that.
Not Alabama.
McKee, the nation's No. 25 overall recruit and No. 3 pro-style quarterback who stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 220 pounds, is hoping to make it back to Tuscaloosa and work out for offensive coordinator Brian Daboll this summer.
If not, he plans to take an official visit this fall for the LSU game in early November. He has taken an unofficial visit to Alabama.
"They say I'm a high priority, so they're a high priority for me," McKee said.
McKee said Washington, Texas and BYU are also in the mix. He sat out Sunday's session at The Opening, citing his Mormon faith of observing Sunday as a rest day. (He has said if he has future college or professional obligations on Sundays, he will participate as those are beyond his control). McKee starred on Monday, the final day of The Opening, in 7-on-7, showing why he was one of the top quarterbacks at the event. 247Sports ranked him third on the final day.
Like many quarterback prospects, McKee has been impressed with Daboll.
"He's trying to run it like the (New England) Patriots (where Daboll has previously coached)," McKee said. "The Patriots sling the ball. I'm really excited to see what he does with their offense."
Alabama head coach Nick Saban said that the coaches plan to sign 22 recruits for this class. McKee won't be one of them, but he could still commit.
"I could sign a letter of intent, but then I have to come back to the school even if there was a huge change in the program," McKee said. "My plan is just to commit to the school and come back. My plan is to commit after the season, so I'm not sure when that will be."
Per 247Sports, McKee completed 70 percent of his passes on his one day of 7-on-7 competition, throwing 10 touchdowns and zero interceptions.
Alabama is also involved in the recruitment of three other quarterbacks at The Opening - five-stars Justin Fields of Kennesaw, Ga., Matt Corral of Long Beach, Calif., and Jack Tuttle, a Utah commit also from California.

The underlined portion is huge, huge news. I hope we land him now. It would allow us to take Corral and McKee while only using one spot in the class.

Alabama is still working to flip a player in a position of need from a key SEC West rival.
Kelvin Joseph has been committed to LSU for more than a year. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound four-star defensive back is from Baton Rouge.
But he's still giving Alabama the time of day. He has made multiple trips to Tuscaloosa since his commitment to LSU, including in early June during a camp and he thinks he'll return later this month for Alabama's Champions Cookout.
Alabama thinks Joseph can play any position in the secondary. He talks with head coach Nick Saban and defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley on a regular basis. Alabama is trying to sign plenty of recruits who can play cornerback after not signing any last year. Joseph's physicality stands out.
"The coaches are really showing that they care about me and that they want me there," Joseph said at The Opening finals in Beaverton, Ore.
Alabama signed linebackers Dylan Moses and Christopher Allen from Baton Rouge last year. Could they do the same with Joseph, the nation's No. 45 overall prospect?
"It's my home town, so LSU is always going to be a favorite," Joseph said. "Alabama is recruiting me and that's something that hasn't changed."
Joseph said Alabama has the best shot to flip him, if anyone can. He estimated his commitment at "90 or 80 percent."
"Can't go wrong with Nick Saban," Joseph said. "If you play in his secondary, you're bound to play in the NFL."
He said he's happy to see LSU have some coaching stability with the promotion of Ed Orgeron, but also needs to see more.
"It helps me, but I just want to see what they do this season, how they rotate players and how it plays out," Joseph said.

Kelvin Joseph wants Patrick Surtain at LSU
BEAVERTON, Ore. — Kelvin Joseph is the longest-tenured commit in LSU’s 2018 recruiting class. As the group adds its final pieces, the 4-star defensive back is eyeing a candidate to join him in the secondary.
While together for the week in Oregon, Joseph spent much of his downtime in the ear of 5-star cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr. Joseph sees a lot of himself in the nation’s No. 1 cornerback and No. 5 overall prospect, and believes teaming with Surtain in Baton Rouge would lead the Tigers a step closer toward contending for a national championship.
“He can come in with me and we can both make an impact on each side,” Joseph told SEC Country at Nike’s The Opening Finals. “He’s really long, he plays big just like me. We’re both going to compete and it isn’t going to be easy. We can be the face of ‘DBU.’ “
Joseph, a top-40 prospect and the top-rated defensive back from Louisiana, has assumed the role of recruiter for the Tigers. That comes as his own commitment to LSU has been strengthened in recent weeks after his best friend and 5-star point guard Javonte Smart committed to Will Wade and the LSU basketball team.
Joseph took advantage of his time out West with fellow elite prospects, trying to sway them toward LSU. Surtain and Alabama 5-star wide receiver Justyn Ross were two of the targets that Joseph left the event impressed with and hopes could be teammates.
“It’s a big role for me, you know,” he said. “You want to bring in a lot of good people. That’s why I’m trying to recruit people here and make my team nice for when we come in.”
Part of Joseph’s pitch to Surtain is about LSU’s reputation of developing defensive backs. Yes, the “DBU” mantra.
Joseph was in Surtain’s ear for much of the weekend and will continue to recruit him until the 5-star prospect is close to making a decision. That could come after a visit to LSU’s campus later this month or during his senior season.
“I’ve been talking to Surtain about it,” said Joseph. “I tell him to come join ‘DBU’ because we would be nice.”
LSU’s 2018 recruiting class features a trio of defensive backs, including Joseph and fellow 4-star Nadab Joseph and 3-star Ar’Darius Washington.
Both Josephs are capable of lining up at corner or safety. Surtain fits the bill as a true corner and Washington fits the mold of a nickel in Corey Raymond’s secondary. Joseph believes he will ultimately wind up at corner with a very familiar target opposite him.
“I see me and Pat at corner and we’d both be lockdown,” he said. “Then we’d put Nadab and Ar’Darius at safety.”

Justyn Ross talks top schools
BEAVERTON, Ore. — Justyn Ross was asked a simple question by SEC Country at The Opening Finals: Which school that he’s considering has the most appealing depth chart at wide receiver?
“Auburn because I think that’s where they are lacking right now,” Ross said. “It does help them a lot because as a receiver you always want to just come in and be able to compete for a spot right away.”
That’s important because Auburn is a big threat to Alabama right now for the nation’s No. 5 wide receiver in the Class of 2018, per the 247Sports composite rankings. The Crimson Tide have depth at wide receiver after signing four last year, but Alabama is pitching to him that it doesn’t have many wide receivers like the 6-foot-4 Ross. In 2018, he’d be one of three Tide receivers at least that tall (Derek Kief and Tyrell Shavers) according to the current Alabama roster.
“They don’t have a lot of receivers of my caliber,” Ross said of Alabama. “They don’t have a lot of receivers who can run and be a red-zone threat at the same time.”
Ross played on the same 7-on-7 team as 5-star Clemson quarterback commit Trevor Lawrence at The Opening Finals last week. That’s also important because those Tigers are also a huge threat to Alabama.
The Under Armour All-American is looking for a school that has an appealing depth chart and good quarterbacks either already on the roster or committed. Ross is a big fan of Lawrence.
“Everything about his ball is just perfect,” Ross said. “I don’t know what it is, but it’s always just there on target. He’s probably the best quarterback I’ve thrown with. His ball placement just makes it so easy to catch.”
While it’s clear that playing with Lawrence this past week made an impression, he’s also high on the other teams he’s considering and their quarterback situations, as well.
“I think all of them have great quarterback situations,” Ross said. “You have (Jarrett) Stidham at Auburn, Tua (Tagovailoa) and Jalen (Hurts) at Alabama. Clemson has a good quarterback coming in with Trevor (Lawrence). Florida State has (Deondre) Francois. All of them have good quarterbacks.”
Stidham could potentially leave Auburn after this season and declare for the NFL draft. Could that hurt the Tigers’ chances with Ross if that happens? Not necessarily.
“They have a good quarterback situation with Malik (Willis) there,” Ross said. “He throws a good ball, so I think they have a good quarterback situation even if Stidham leaves.”
Ross has a top 5 of Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida and Florida State. He said that list is subject to change depending on if another school jumps in the mix and shows him something he hasn’t seen. His research into schools begins with the team’s quarterback situation and then pivots to the depth chart at receiver.
But those five schools, he believes, present the best opportunity for him at the moment. He said Alabama, Auburn and Clemson are recruiting him the hardest. Is it likely that his decision comes down to those three schools when he makes his commitment on National Signing Day?
“Probably because of the communication between them and the relationship I have with those schools,” Ross said. “It’s just going to be me completely falling in love with this program and calling it home.”

Alabama congratulates Justin Fields and Luke Ford
Justin Fields, a 5-star quarterback from Harrison High School (Kennesaw, Ga.), and Luke Ford, a 4-star tight end from Carterville (Ill.) High School, are two of Alabama’s top targets in the Class of 2018.
Both Fields and Ford were on the winning 7-on-7 team at The Opening Finals at Nike headquarters on Monday. The Crimson Tide staff sent along an edit to both elite recruits congratulating them on their achievement.

— Noah Ford (@nonoford97) July 5, 2017
Alabama is in a good position for Ford.
Since de-committing from Arkansas, Ford has visited Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and LSU. The Crimson Tide received a visit from Ford on June 17. He quickly told SEC Country after that trip that the Tide were on top. They still are.
“Alabama stands out because of the facilities and the new offensive coordinator [Brian Daboll],” Ford said. “He’s coached (Rob) Gronkowski. He was with the Patriots and won five Super Bowls there. Alabama stands out really high on my list. They’ve made it clear that I’m their No. 1 target at tight end. That means a lot to me because it’s Alabama.”
It should be noted that Ford, along with the nation’s No. 1 junior college tight end Dominick Wood-Anderson, are considered to be the top targets at tight end for Alabama. Wood-Anderson will take an official visit to Tuscaloosa on July 21 before announcing his commitment on August 1.
As for Fields, who was named the Elite 11 MVP, Alabama is still in the race. But I believe Auburn, Florida, Florida State and Georgia are still ahead right now. He did tell SEC Country last weekend that after his first visit to Tuscaloosa, the Crimson Tide are in the mix.
“I just love the way Coach Daboll coaches,” Fields said. “Of course, they are going to contend for national championships every year. They also have most of the best players in college football. Just getting to practice with those guys every day is going to get you better.”
Fields will visit Auburn on July 13 and Georgia on July 16. He doesn’t have a set visit to Alabama scheduled yet, but don’t be surprised to see him in Tuscaloosa on July 21 for the team’s invite-only cookout.

Penei Sewell is close to cutting down his long list of suitors, with one more stop at Oregon left on his summer itinerary before he sits down to mull things over.
The four-star offensive lineman from St. George (Utah) Desert Hills was steady throughout the weekend and really popped out at right guard, which is looking more and more like his natural fit at the next level. At 6-feet-5, 330 lbs., Sewell already has the size to be a candidate for early playing time at the next level and you figure he's only going to get stronger in the next year. He is technically sound in pass protection as well as run blocking, and he won't need much refinement once he makes it to a college campus.
Check out the video above to hear what Sewell had to say about his experience at The Opening Finals, the upcoming visit to Eugene, interest in Alabama, Nevada, USC and UCLA, and more.

MADISON, Ala. — LaBryan Ray remembers the moment football changed his life.
Early on at James Clemens High School in Madison, Ala., Ray worked his way into becoming a top prospect in the state and had a few offers from some smaller schools.
But during the spring of his junior year, his recruitment went through the stratosphere. Why? Because Alabama got involved.
“It went from silence to chaos,” Ray told SEC Country.
Once schools like Alabama offer a prospect, coaches and programs from around the country quickly take notice.
The Crimson Tide offered Ray a scholarship on Feb. 9, 2016. Less than three weeks later, Ray held offers from Oklahoma, Florida State, Tennessee and Nebraska, among many others.
“It got to the point where three or four coaches a day would offer you a scholarship to come play,” Ray said. “These were great universities. It was a lot going on, so I didn’t know how to handle it. It wasn’t until a month later when things quieted down that I was able to process what happened.
“I went from being known in the state to being known nationwide. It’s something that I’ll remember for the rest of my left.”
James Clemens coach Wade Waldrop always envisioned Ray garnering that level of national attention. He felt it would come sooner, and once it did, Waldrop watched as his star player handled everything with grace.
“If he struggled with it, I didn’t see it,” Waldrop told SEC Country. “I think that’s a testament to the people that are around him. Just a lot of people around him to keep him humble.”
Ray ultimately picked Alabama over Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, Tennessee and a laundry list of others.
He likes being close enough to home so his family can drive up to see him play. He’ll also have childhood friends Kyriq McDonald and Kendall Randolph at Alabama with him (McDonald attended James Clemens High, Randolph attended Bob Jones High).
McDonald, a defensive back, and Randolph, an offensive lineman, signed with Alabama during the 2017 cycle. The trio grew up playing together in youth leagues and middle school before becoming stars in high school.
“LaBryan is a unique personality,” Waldrop said. “He’s quiet and humble. He just comes to work. He brings a professional attitude. That’s unique in a high school locker room because you don’t get that a lot. Alabama is getting a good one.”

‘This is the future right here’
Waldrop first met Ray when he was an overgrown eighth-grader. Because of new school zoning, Ray attended James Clemens instead of Bob Jones High School, another powerhouse in Madison.
Waldrop recalls Ray and Alabama signee Kyriq McDonald having to report to James Clemens for workouts with the rising freshmen while still enrolled at Discovery Middle School.
“I remember the first time I saw him,” Waldrop said, laughing. “I took a picture of him and sent it to one of our coaches that’s now on staff and said, ‘This is the future right here.’ ”
Waldrop joked that he doesn’t recall hearing Ray talk for two or three years other than to say, “Yes sir.”
Ray is as humble as they come considering how many headlines and accolades he’s accumulated. The 247Sports composite tabbed Ray as the top player in the state of Alabama for the 2017 cycle. Ray is a composite 5-star defensive lineman and the No. 26 overall player nationally. He is the No. 1 strong-side defensive end prospect.
Ray finished his senior season at James Clemens High School with 124 tackles, including 25 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, 16 quarterback hurries, 2 fumble recoveries and a blocked punt. As a junior in 2015, Ray recorded 113 tackles with 20 tackles for loss, 12 sacks and 3 forced fumbles.
Ray was a two-time Alabama Sports Writers Association 7A Lineman of the Year and two-time all-state selection.
“My dad always told me that if you put in the work, everything else will take care of itself,” Ray said. “Just a hard, hard worker. I know I’m gonna play with 110 percent, be relentless and try to wreak havoc. All of that in one.”

Hoping for freshman playing time
Ray joins a Crimson Tide team looking for defensive linemen to step up after the departure of Jonathan Allen and Dalvin Tomlinson. Da’Ron Payne is the only returning starter.
Ray is one of two defensive linemen who enrolled at Alabama this summer. Phil Mathis from Monroe, La., is the other.
Junior college transfer Isaiah Buggs, who enrolled in January, was the only other defensive lineman the Crimson Tide signed in the 2017 cycle.
“I do want to play early. I would definitely love to,” Ray said. “Is there a chance I may get redshirted? Yeah. But I’m not really thinking of that. I’m trying to go in there and play and show the coaches what I’ve got, just for a chance.
“I’m hoping I can get some playing time as a freshman. Anything can happen. I’m ready for the future and to see what it holds.”
Alabama is no stranger to playing freshmen defensive linemen. Allen, A’Shawn Robinson and Payne each contributed in their first seasons on campus. So even if he doesn’t start, there’s a strong chance Ray is able to break into the rotation.
Ray said he’s spoken with Alabama’s coaching staff and more specifically defensive line coach Karl Dunbar about being versatile enough to rush from the edge as well as slide inside in certain defensive packages. The role sounds similar to the one Allen played throughout his All-American career at Alabama.
Alabama fans can expect Ray to work hard once he hits campus. Like Allen, Ray could develop into one of the top ambassadors for Alabama football.
“Alabama is getting a guy that’s going to make the university proud every day because he’s going to come and represent the school in a positive way,” Waldrop said. “He’s going to work hard. He’s going to be a great teammate to the guys in the locker room. He’s going to be a great student-athlete.
“I feel like he’ll be a guy who when fans look back, they’re going to say they’re glad this young man picked the University of Alabama because he’s going to represent it well.”

The quarterbacks threw ton of balls at The Opening, checking in two days before every other position along with the receivers and tight ends. They had a pair of workouts on Thursday and Friday, a Nike Camp type workout on Saturday and then 7v7 play kicked off on Monday and Tuesday.
Here's our breakdown of how each of the six quarterbacks performed during the week with more emphasis going towards how they looked during 7v7 action.

TOP PERFORMER
quote:
Tanner McKee, Corona (Calif.) Centennial
McKee had a big week culminating in a great performance on Monday. He was solid on the first throwing session on Thursday, then was one of our top performers on Friday. On Sunday, due to his LDS faith, he chose to sit out the first day of 7v7 play and it was a question whether he would even be given any reps on Monday for the Championship round of competition.
Not only did McKee get reps, he started the opening game and led touchdown drives on his first five possessions. He ended up taking most of the reps that day and led his team from the losers bracket to the semi-finals before falling just short. McKee is a pure passer and can make all the throws. He was hitting guys on time, throwing with great touch and accuracy and made smart, quick decisions.
He didn't throw a single interception and was smart enough to check down when needed but had no problems getting the ball down the field as well. His recruitment is unique in that he won't enroll at his school of choice until 2020 and right now, Alabama, BYU, Texas and Washington all look good for official visits in the fall.

Rest of the Group (Alphabetical Order)
quote:
Matt Corral, Long Beach Poly (Calif.)
It was interesting watching Corral during the 7v7 play on Sunday and Monday. He's a gunslinger who we have compared to Brett Favre in the past for his ability to use his big arm to take chances down the field and rifle the ball in to small windows. On Monday, it looked like he was making a conscious effort to protect the football, checked down more and did a nice job completing short to intermediate passes.
There is no doubt Corral has a cannon and that was on display Saturday night when he won the long ball toss with a 77 yard throw. He can make throws other quarterbacks wouldn't even attempt and if he continues to improve in his ability to find his secondary targets and make quick decisions and reads, he'll be a lot of fun to watch at the next level. Top schools remain Alabama, Florida and Georgia and he'll visit all three later this month.

Jack Tuttle, San Marcos (Calif.) Mission Hills- Utah
Tuttle was a trendy picky by many to win QB MVP honors after several outstanding performances, including the recent Elite 11 Finals. He started off hot and looked great in the initial workouts throwing on air with his receivers but never found his timing or rhythm during the 7v7 play.
He forced a few balls down the field and threw in to coverage more than expected. At times, it looked like Tuttle wasn't prepared for how fast the secondary could close and it also has to be mentioned that his receivers weren't getting a lot of separation either. In no way did this performance change our view of him and he's still easily, among the top handful of quarterbacks in the nation.

Dont think we get Kelvin Joseph anymore. Ship has sailed; personally think we have a better chance with Nadab Joseph. Its hard to figure our top, priorities in DB's. Surtain?Isaac-Stuart? Campbell?Jobe? Kelvin?
