BEAVERTON, Ore. — The Opening finals wrapped up on Monday from Nike world headquarters, and Day 5 featured all of the invited recruits, including the offensive and defensive linemen, linebackers and defensive backs.

Among those gathered in the Pacific Northwest for the largest annual recruiting showcase in the country were a bevy of Alabama recruiting targets.

Here is what I learned from Day 5:

Penei Sewell, a 4-star offensive lineman from Utah, is really, really high on Alabama. At this point, it seems like the Crimson Tide are the favorites to land him when he makes his commitment, which is expected before the season begins. His father also told SEC Country that he believes Alabama is one of the best-positioned teams for his son.

You can tell that Tanner McKee, a 5-star quarterback, is high on Alabama because he’s already looked into the Tuscaloosa LDS Institute. McKee is a devout Mormon and will go on a two-year mission trip after graduating from high school. Religion is the most important thing to McKee, so finding a church that fits him is going to be a critical factor. He also said that Alabama’s attention to detail is most impressive to him out of the schools he’s considering.

Justin Fields, a 5-star quarterback, said since his visit to Alabama last month, he’s been talking with offensive line coach Brent Key, his primary recruiter, almost every day. He’ll visit Auburn on July 13 and Georgia on July 16. Fields was named the Elite 11 MVP on Monday. One Elite 11 director told SEC Country that in the nine years he’s been working with the event, Fields is the best quarterback he’s seen.

Emil Ekiyor, a 4-star Michigan guard commit from Cathedral High School, told SEC Country at The Opening finals on Monday that despite his canceled trips to Tuscaloosa, the Crimson Tide are “pretty much” the only other team he’s considering. “The track record they have of getting guys into the league,” Ekiyor said for why he’s still considering Alabama. “That’s what Alabama is all about. They also have one of the best coaching staffs in the business.”

Brenton Cox, a 5-star defensive end from Stockbridge (Ga.) High School, committed to Ohio State over Alabama and Georgia in April. That hasn’t stopped Alabama from pursuing the nation’s No. 2 defensive end.The 6-foot-5, 247-pound prospect said he talks to either defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley or outside linebackers coach Tosh Lupoi at least once every two days; however, his commitment to the Buckeyes is solid.

The 4th of July is Independence Day and FSU running back commitment (and brother of Dalvin Cook), James Cook, decided to use the day to gain his independence from the 'Noles. The following recruits have also become hot topics by earning their own independence – away from schools to which they had been previously committed. Now, decommitments aren't as American as apple pie and Independence Day, but they are sure here to stay and these guys are now free agents, so to speak, after decommitments.

DE Micah Parsons – The former Penn State commitment is enjoying the recruiting process again. There are rumors of Nebraska moving into position as his latest leader after a great visit. Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Penn State and others are all in the mix.

QB Matt Corral – Corral decommitted from USC and will apparently visit schools like Alabama and Georgia in July. Nebraska has been mentioned as a potential visit destination and Florida has been linked to Corral as well, but it’s anyone’s guess as to where he’s leaning.

QB Justin Fields – Another former Penn State commitment, Fields has everyone guessing with Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Georgia, Penn State and Alabama in the mix. He could wait and take his official visits now and drag things into the winter.

ATH Justin Watkins – Watkins loves that feeling of independence having broken free from commitments to LSU, Florida State and Texas already. Alabama is one school he hasn’t committed to yet that has been trending.

The month of June means college programs hosting summer camps across the Southeast, and several underclassmen took advantage of those opportunities to enhance their recruiting profiles. Here is a look at five underclassmen from the Southeast region who emerged as prospects to know based on their June performances.

2020 DE Andy Boykin

Boykin is among a talented group of underclassmen at Lagrange (Ga.) Troup, along with King Mwikuta and Kobe Hudson. Boykin has racked up offers from Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, Syracuse and Tennessee recently, and more could be on the way for the 6-foot-4, 230-pound sophomore. He transferred after his freshman season at Lagrange (Ga.) High, so with his ability and the talent around him, Boykin will have a lot of eyes on him this fall.

2020 RB Ashaad Clayton

LSU is the most recent offer for Clayton, joining an impressive list that includes Auburn, Georgia, Kansas, LSU, Oregon State and Tulane. Clayton visited Alabama this summer and the Crimson Tide are showing interest as well. He is also hearing from Florida and hopes to camp at the Swamp later this month. Clayton's favorite school growing up was LSU. He has watched a lot of Tiger football games and worn several purple and gold jerseys over the years.

2019 OG Harry Miller

It seems like one offer after another has come in for Miller recently. Clemson offered right before he left the country for a mission trip in late June and, before that, programs such as Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Ohio State and Tennessee extended offers. Miller is wide open to all schools at this point. He will hit the road for some visits in July and then he will continue that into the fall.

2021 QB Aaron McLaughlin

Yes, you read it correctly, McLaughlin is in the 2021 class. He already has an impressive offer list. Florida State had him on campus in the middle of June for camp, and the Seminoles offered him after his performance. Even before that, McLaughlin was pulling in offers from Georgia State, Missouri and Texas A&M. He may be from the Peach State, but he loves it on the West Coast. He has offers from UCLA and USC and has high interest in both. McLaughlin looks to be the next quarterback in line to be a national name out of Georgia.

2020 DT McKinnley Jackson

Not many know about Lucedale (Miss.) George County, but Jackson has had many talking about him and that school this summer. Where he goes, he gets offered. Jackson camped at LSU. The Tigers offered. He camped at Auburn. Those Tigers offered, too. He camped at Florida State. You know the drill by now — the Seminoles offered. Jackson is an athletic defensive lineman who can move. He has impressed coach after coach over the last six weeks. Jackson will have the practice field and the hallways busy in the coming years. LSU has had him on campus twice this summer and the Tigers could be the early favorite.

FWIW his high school coach is an Alabama fan who has a Bamamag account.

would be sweet to get commitments from that 4 before season starts. I think Jobe waits until he moves away from Miami and then seriously considers opening it up, though I wouldn't be surprised to see him pull a TJ Yeldon style commitment either.

I know.

It's hard to believe it's been almost 10 years since Julio, Ingram and Peterson came out of high school.
