Two of Corral's best throws have been when he's taken some zip off and dropped it over a LB. one went for a TD.

Patrick Surtain has been my top corner the last two days. Love his athleticism for a 6-2 kid, fluid in his movement, the game just looks smooth and easy for him.

There are some absolute monsters in the 2018 class. The big boys down in the trenches are doing work, and Stephen Nelson and Michael Felder are talking about some of their favorite lineman recruits.

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Sunday’s action at The Opening Finals featured the OL/DL challenge, hours of Nike 7on7 pool play and the first round of the Nike 7on7 Championship Tournament at night. This year, we’re breaking down our prospect reports by region instead of 7on7 team. Here’s who caught our eye today from the Southeast.

Alpha Dog
Justin Fields (Kennesaw, GA/Harrison) — The 5-star recruit didn’t disappoint. He wasn’t just the most productive quarterback Sunday, he arguably was the top overall performer regardless of position. Fields carved up opposing defenses with precision throws, found open men all over the field, completed every type of pass and consistently moved his team down the field. His throws were accurate and crisp. More than anything, Fields was efficient. When all was said and done, he completed 27 of 35 passes for four touchdowns and no interceptions on eight drives.

Next 5 Standouts
Terrace Marshall (Bossier City, LA/Parkway) — The 5-star receiver certainly lived up to his hype as a big-play guy throughout the day. He came up big on deep balls, fade routes and even produced a 40-yard catch-and-run. Marshall was the most dominant receiver on his team (Vapor Speed). He finished with 13 catches.
Jamaree Salyer, (Atlanta, GA/Pace Academy) — Big, agile and naturally strong, Salyer was at times a beast. He not only has a stout power base but used his upper-body stretch to deliver massive, route-altering punches into the opposition. When Salyer locks into a defender, he’s tough to get by.
Chris Smith (Atlanta, GA/Hapeville Charter) — At 5-feet-10.5, 169 pounds, the Georgia commit is one of the smaller defensive backs at The Opening. But he covers a lot of ground and continues to display terrific instincts and strong ball skills. Smith had two interceptions of note Sunday — both were pick sixes. On one, Smith intercepted UCLA commit Dorian Thompson-Robinson after pulling away from his receiver and breaking in front of another.
Channing Tindall (Columbia, S.C./Sping Valley) — Simply put, the 4-star linebacker was everywhere. He broke up passes all over the place and seemed to be wherever the ball was. While Tindall has been described by some as a thumper, he showed the ability to drop into coverage and stick with backs and tight ends. Not many linebackers covered as well as Tindall did.
Josh Vann (Tucker, GA/Tucker) — Vann is sneaky. He didn’t wow anyone with his speed but just as is the case on Friday nights he makes plays. He had nice catch-and-runs, caught slants, made grabs on the sidelines and beat the defense deep for a score. Although Vann did have one drop late in the day overall he was steady, if not flashy. He’s just a workman-like receiver who always finds the soft spot in defense.

Signature Play
On a tipped pass from Washington Sate quarterback commit Cammon Cooper, 2019 linebacker Owen Pappoe of Grayson (Ga.) got a hand on the ball, kept it alive in the air then finally snagged it and rambled in for a pick six.

Emptying the Notebook
-Kentucky quarterback commit Jarren Williams (Lawrenceville, GA/Central Gwinnett) competed 39 of 55 passes for five touchdowns and three interceptions. In one game, he was 11 of 14 with three touchdowns. Williams’ pump-fakes threw off numerous defensive backs.
-Clemson quarterback commit Trevor Lawrence (Cartersville, GA/Cartersville), the No. 1 overall recruit in the 247Sports Composite, started a tad slow, but got hot late. In his final game of the day, Lawrence went 11 of 14 with two touchdowns. It might have been the best half by a quarterback all day.
-TCU quarterback commit Justin Rogers (Bossier City, LA/Parkway) had his moments. He finished 39 of 52 with four touchdown strikes on 12 drives.
-Michigan defensive back commit Myles Sims (Atlanta,GA/Westlake) had an interception and a pass break-up. He seemed to be in the right place a lot.
-Safety Derrik Allen (Marietta,GA/Lassiter) continued his strong play with two pass breakups and a diving interception.

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Sunday marked the beginning of 7on7 pool play at The Opening Finals.
Alabama isn’t as well represented at the event as it was last year in terms of commitments with just Xavier Williams a member of the Crimson Tide’s class.
A number of UA targets took part in the event, however. Here’s a look at notable names and how they fared.
To no surprise, five-star quarterback Justin Fields lit up the competition this afternoon completing 27 of 35 passes for four touchdowns and no interceptions. Going head-to-head with Trevor Lawrence’s team, the Kennesaw (Ga.) Harrison product outshined the nation’s No. 1 player in a shutout.
Other signal callers on Alabama’s target list:
Matt Corral: 22/40, 3 TDs, 2 INTs
Jack Tuttle: 27/45, 2 TDs, 5 INTs
Tanner McKee: DNP due to religious beliefs
Four-star running back Harold Joiner caught two passes out of the backfield on the day. Joiner, at 6-foot-3, 218 pounds, is recruited as an athlete and may fare better as a receiver or tight end at the next level. The Mountain Brook (Ala.) product has a ton of ability.
Five-star receiver Justyn Ross bounced back from an early drop on the day to tally a pair of catches and demand defensive backs’ attention. Ross’ big frame and athletic ability are going to present all types of problems for defensive coordinators.
Alabama commit Xavier Williams had six catches on the day. I didn’t see every one of his games, but the Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Prep flashed his speed and fine tuned route-running ability in the matchup I saw.
6-foot-7, 250-pound tight end Luke Ford caught eight passes and a touchdown on the day. Alabama offensive coordinator Brian Daboll has compared the four-star tight end to Gronk, and I can certainly see the resemblance.
Miami cornerback commit Josh Jobe is one of the most physical defensive backs at the event. It’s clear watching him play why Alabama is so high on the elite South Florida product. He had four pass breakups and a pick on the day.
LSU defensive back commit Kelvin Joseph’s side was tested often with Isaac Taylor-Stuart playing opposite. The four-star cornerback, who’s recruited as a safety by Alabama, broke up eight passes on the day.
Tyson Campbell had a near pick that he accidentally tipped to Mark Pope for a touchdown. Other than that he posted two pass breakups and a late game interception to preserve a tie on the day. Campbell is a freak athlete with football instincts. He picked up a Crystal Ball prediction to the Tide on Sunday.
Jaycee Horn posted four pass breakups on the day, but played a big presence in the secondary, especially early on.
Five-star defensive end Micah Parsons can’t put on pads with the defensive linemen due to Pennsylvania high school regulations. The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder instead played linebacker, and excelled at that. The five-star DE can run with almost anyone. He picked off two passes, and broke up another pair.
Five-star defensive end KJ Henry didn’t have his best day during OL/DL. The 6-foot-5.5, 235-pounder lost a rep both a run and pass rep. He did beat four-star tackle Rasheed Walker in one attempt.
Penei Sewell had limited reps due to a shortened session after Greg Emerson’s injury, but in the time he did have he was able to play big with good pad level. Sewell has great balance for a kid his size (6-foot-4, 349 lbs.) that he was able to use effectively in the run game.
Michigan guard commit Emil Ekiyor played with great leverage beating the nation’s No. 1 defensive tackle and Ohio State commit Taron Vincent. The 6-foot-2, 322 pound had a solid performance throughout the day.
