Some of the best performances I've seen today include...
Nebraska commit Bookie Radley-Hiles and the nation's No. 1 tight end Jeremy Ruckert just making play after play after play.
Linebacker Channing Tindall has gotten his hands on a lot of footballs.
Justin Fields was fantastic in a rout of Trevor Lawrence's team. He spread the ball around a lot with Josh Vann who was terrific in that game after the catch. Luke Ford was also a reliable target.
Penn State WR commit Justin Shorter keeps his name in the convo as the nation's best.
Patrick Surtain has been dominant at corner as well.
Five-star WR Terrace Marshall has been terrific too.

“You have to ask my recruiter about that,” Joiner said. “He’s the only one who knows.” I have no idea what that even means, but it’s clear Joiner and Alabama is pretty much over at this point.

BEAVERTON, Ore. – After backing off an early commitment to USC, five-star quarterback Matt Corral is ready to take several visits later this month to schools on the East coast.

“Miami, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama,” Corral told 247Sports’ Luke Stampini at the Nike Opening. “I plan on cutting down my list as I take visits. I cut out those visits for July 20th because that is when I get back from vacation. So I will bust out all those visits once I go to Florida, I will go to Alabama next, then Georgia, and so on. I have no dates but I think Georgia is the 25th, Alabama is the 21st something like that. Then Florida after that.”

The Gators are still looking for their signal caller for the 2018 class, and have recently gotten in touch with the Long Beach (Ca.) Long Beach Poly QB.

“As soon as I decommitted from USC they started talking to me,” said Corral of the Gators. “I knew Coach Charlie Frye because one of my coaches is good friends with him. I first started talking to him and he connected me to Coach [Doug] Nussmeier and then Coach Mac.”

Corral admits his conversations with offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier have been in their early stages. However, Corral has enjoyed his preliminary conversations with the Florida assistant.

“He is straight up and he tells me how he is recruiting me and he is recruiting Justin Fields and how Georgia and Florida have been back and forth with Justin [Fields]. They are all straight up at Florida and they tell me what they tell Justin and tell him what they tell me. Coach Nussmeier and Coach Mac are both guys I feel I can learn a lot from but I just need to get to know them more. Coach Nussmeier I need to get him connected with my parents so they can interact a little more. Just to get to know my family.”

The Gators have the luxury on the recruiting trail of presenting opportunity of early playing time, which is something Corral has zeroed in on.

“It’s wide open there,” said Corral of the QB depth chart. “They have Malik Zaire now but after that it’s wide open. They still haven’t named a starter and that is one thing I am interested in.”

This late July visit to Gainesville will be an important one for the Gators as it’s the 6-foot-2, 196-pounders first time in The Swamp. During his time there, Corral wants to see if he can fit into life as a student athlete.

“I just want to feel like I can be there and if I can fit that place and if I can see myself in that whole environment and if I know that coach can take care of me as a father. Coach Nussmeier has kids of his own and he wants to let my parents know he will be the one taking care of me because it’s far from home. That made me feel a little more comfortable because that is a big step.”

Going forward Corral plans to have a commitment in the books sometime before the start of his senior season, but admitted he could stretch things out if need be. Heading into his round of unofficial visits is there a team holding the edge?

“Georgia obviously because that is the only school I have visited so far besides SC. Once I get those visits in it will be interesting.”

Penei Sewell could feel it immediately. Alabama's climate is much different than the one in Saint George, Utah.

"It's really humid," Sewell said at The Opening Finals in Beaverton, Ore. "When I got off the plane, I was already sweating. That was a change."

But there was nothing slowing down the elite offensive lineman on his multi-day visit last month. If he had stayed another day, he might already be a part of Alabama's class.

"They think I fit in pretty good," Sewell said of Alabama. "Come right in, get to work and get to learn from all the great players.

"I don't have a leader, but (Alabama is) probably up there with the best."

The 6-foot-4, 349-pound Sewell is a four-star recruit ranked No. 57 nationally, as the nation's No. 7 offensive tackle and No. 1 prospect in Utah.

Sewell has more than 20 offers, but Alabama has some local competition for Sewell.

"Probably just Nevada, really," he said. "They're up there because I don't have a list now. I'll have a list soon."

Sewell wants to commit somewhere before the season starts, as he is ready for recruitment to die down.

He has one main thing he's looking for.

"Just that family atmosphere, really," Sewell said. "Just family and see if I get well with the coaching staff."

Sewell was tempted to give Alabama a commitment, but held off for one reason.

"Yeah, I had to leave," he said, with a smile.

Alabama may sign just three offensive linemen in this class, but Sewell is a top target.

Anyone thinking that Jaycee Horn is leaning one way between Alabama and South Carolina would be way off.

Horn, a four-star cornerback from Alpharetta, Ga., and the son of former NFL wide receiver Jor Horn, decided he would choose between the two schools on July 15.

Now, he isn't sure if that date will stick.

"I may have to push it back," Horn said Sunday at The Opening finals in Beaverton, Ore.

The 6-foot, 174-pound Horn remains high on Alabama. He speaks with secondary coach Derrick Ansley on a regular basis and head coach Nick Saban thinks very highly of Horn.

Another thing in Alabama's favor is the success Saban has had in putting players into the NFL.

"(Joe Horn has) been a fan of Alabama because of how hard they work," Jaycee Horn said. "Growing up, I was a fan (of Alabama). He's always thought highly of Alabama and he said that's the closest thing you can get to the league. He's been down there with me when we saw them work."

Alabama likes the younger Horn's versatility. The Crimson Tide didn't sign any cornerbacks last season and are looking to sign several. One recent commitment is Mobile four-star Jalyn Armour-Davis.

"You've got a chance to come in and play," Horn said. "Of course you're going to have to compete against the guys that are there. It's a good look. You can go in there and compete and hopefully get some (playing time)."

Horn recently camped at Alabama and showed off his versatility.

"(They like) just my length and size and how I use my hands at the line of scrimmage," Horn said. "When I camped down there, they talked to me about playing safety, the star position (hybrid corner/safety in passing downs) as well as corner."

But South Carolina is a real threat. In fact, nine of 10 247Sports crystal ball picks predict the Gamecocks at this point.

"Coach (defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson), we've got a great relationship," Horn said. "Coach T-Rob and Coach (Will) Muschamp), they've been on me hard and things are going up with them."

AL.com was able to catch up with JJ Peterson, a four-star linebacker from Moultrie, Ga., at The Opening Finals in Beaverton, Ore., on Sunday.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Peterson is the nation's No. 41 overall recruit and No. 2 outside linebacker. He plays for former Hoover coach Rush Propst at Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, Ga.

Peterson is a man of few words, but plays big. Here's what he had to say on Sunday:

** Alabama still leads. He plans to be back in Tuscaloosa sometime later this month. He didn't have a specific date, but it might be for Alabama's Champions Cookout.

** Auburn is no longer his No. 2. That belongs to Oregon. Oregon always has that appeal because of the colors and the Nike uniforms, etc. He says they are "right there" with Alabama.

** Auburn is No. 3, and is certainly not far off. He says he speaks with linebackers coach Travis Williams on a regular basis.

** Georgia is fourth. He has visited Georgia more than any other school.

** Rush Propst's ties to Alabama don't necessarily mean he will go there.

** The biggest impact in Peterson's decision will be the best place for his infant daughter Allie, he said. She will be with him throughout college.

** Peterson wants to make his five official visits, but is trying to graduate from Colquitt County and enroll early. He says a commitment won't be anytime soon, but will likely be sometime this fall.

Mountain Brook four-star running back Harold Joiner released a top six recently that included in-state programs Alabama and Auburn along with schools far away such as Michigan State, USC, UCLA and Texas.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Joiner is one of two prospects from Alabama at The Opening finals in Beaverton, Ore., along with Central-Phenix City receiver Justyn Ross. Park Crossing offensive lineman Tank Jenkins was invited, but was unable to come due to illness.

Joiner has visited Alabama twice this year. He went two weeks ago, where he said he was now being recruited as a running back and receiver. But he said he does not see himself going to Alabama because of its crowded depth chart at the running back position.

Auburn is a much more likely option. Joiner said he's visiting Auburn soon, possibly next weekend. He is done camping at schools, but likes how Auburn is recruiting him.

"Auburn, it's hometown and their depth chart is looking really good," Joiner said. "Coach (Gus) Malzahn mentioned receiver. My primary position would be running back, but he said he could rotate me out to receiver too, and I'd be fine with that."

Joiner hasn't visited the other schools, but has offers from them and is working on scheduling a visit.

"Michigan State, love the way they play and their depth chart is all right right now," Joiner said. "Michigan State, they have a great offensive line.

"UCLA, it's in L.A. They have a good offense, too, and I can fit in well in that and USC, I can fit into."

Texas had a coach visit Joiner during spring practice.

Joiner is looking to play running back at the next level. He is a four-star recruit at the position. He has shown well at The Opening early on at the position.

As he said on June 2, Joiner could make his commitment before his senior season.

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Josh Jobe tweeted on April 20 that his commitment to Miami was 100 percent locked in. He was done with recruitment. That tweet has since been deleted.

What gives? Well, Jobe told SEC Country at The Opening Finals that the reason why he deleted the tweet was because of his displeasure with social media.

“I just don’t want to be on social media anymore,” Jobe said. “There’s just too much drama on there.”

It should be noted that Jobe tweets something nearly every day, so I don’t think that is the actual reason for why he would delete a tweet from April. Nonetheless, Jobe’s recruitment isn’t 100 percent over because he’s planning on taking official visits elsewhere. Alabama will get one of those five trips.

The nation’s No. 10 cornerback said he talks to the Crimson Tide staff every day.

“They’re on me hard,” Jobe said. “They talk to me and my parents every day, so I can tell they really care about me. That means a lot to me because they really want me to be a part of the team.”

Alabama and Michigan are tied for No. 2 behind Miami, Jobe said. The Crimson Tide are the team to watch here, though, and there is considerable interest in them on Jobe’s end.

He traveled to Florida International last month to meet with Alabama coaches. He said the staff showed him some techniques that he didn’t know previously and it was a chance to “learn from the best coaches.”

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect, despite him saying he’s fully committed to Miami, said Alabama is still in the mix for him.

“Most definitely they have a chance,” Jobe said. “‘Bama is ‘Bama. When I went there, I really liked it. It felt like home. Alabama is all about football.”

Jobe, who attends Columbus High School (Miami), will finish his senior year in Connecticut because he’s ineligible to play high school football due to age restrictions set by the Florida High School Athletic Association. He leaves for the Northeast on August 27.

SEC Country has been told by multiple sources that if a flip were to happen, it won’t be until he moves North where he won’t feel any pressure from his hometown to stay committed to the Hurricanes.

He remains projected by SEC Country to sign with the Crimson Tide.

“I’m just ready to compete,” Jobe said. “Whichever school I go to, I’m going there to compete. I want to be a first-team freshman All-American. I want to play on the spot and play as a true freshman. I got a family to feed.”

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Mothers usually get what they want in the recruiting world. Their opinions matter. So, when a recruit admits that his mom wants him to choose a specific school, that’s a big deal.

Cameron Latu, a 4-star JACK target from Olympus High School (Salt Lake City), told SEC Country at The Opening finals at Nike headquarters that his mother wants him to choose Alabama when he makes his commitment.

“She wants me to go to Alabama,” Latu said. “She loves [outside linebackers coach] Tosh [Lupoi] and thinks he can take me to where I want to be. She wants me to go be myself and be a man.”

That doesn’t mean he’ll choose the Crimson Tide when he makes his decision prior to his senior season, but Latu said “of course it matters” that his mother wants him to make that decision.

For now, the nation’s No. 7 defensive end, per the 247Sports composite rankings, is considering Alabama along with BYU, Nebraska, Southern California, Utah and Washington. Latu will make his third trip to Tuscaloosa, Ala., on July 21 for Alabama’s invite-only cookout event, which is the team’s premier recruiting event of the summer.

Three trips to Alabama for a major recruit who lives in Utah is significant, and there’s a reason why he’s returned to Tuscaloosa.

“I like them a lot,” Latu said. “They’re definitely a top three or two team that I’m looking into. I have a lot of love for them because of their coaching staff. Coach Tosh really makes it easy to fit in with them. They’re a really welcoming program.”

How realistic is it that Latu chooses Alabama when it’s time to commit?

“It’s pretty realistic,” Latu said. “It can definitely happen.”

Liked what I saw from 4-star LSU commitment Kelvin Joseph in his last game. The cornerback has worked on his body and his athleticism has given WRs fits. Competing at the point of contact well more than not.
