Nadab Joseph took an early college summer tour that included Georgia, Florida State and Alabama, all of which drew high praise from Joseph. However, while some positive impressions were made by those programs, his visit to Baton Rouge this weekend did enough to help get the Tigers back on steady ground.

Scotlandville defensive back Kelvin Joseph emerged in the spring of 2016 as one of the top defensive backs in the nation, and the impressive list of scholarship offers he has obtained validates that claim.

LSU received a commitment from Joseph during that time, but the Tigers have been forced to fend off programs like Alabama, who are eager to entice the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder to reconsider his decision.

Joseph is currently ranked as the No. 3 prospect in the NOLA.com | The Times Picayune Nifty 50, which is a list compiled of the state's top overall prospects.

Auburn has amped up its pursuit of Park Crossing four-star offensive lineman Tank Jenkins.

The 6-foot-3, 335-pound Jenkins is the state's top offensive lineman in this class. The Montgomery native is a four-star recruit ranked as the nation's No. 14 offensive guard in the 247Sports composite.

"I would say that the hardest ones coming after him are Oklahoma, Missouri and Auburn," Park Crossing coach Smitty Grider said. "I think Florida State is coming on strong lately. Arkansas has been hard and heavy from the beginning."

Jenkins recently camped at Auburn and is impressed with the program. Auburn has two offensive line commits in Stone Mountain, Ga., center Jalil Irvin and Brooks guard Kam Stutts, but wants to add more especially in the interior. Jenkins plays tackle for the Thunderbirds, but knows he will be a guard in college.

"They're coming at me really hard," Jenkins said. "I talked to (offensive coordinator) Chip Lindsey (Monday) and he told me I'm his top guy and he needs me to be an Auburn Tiger," Jenkins said. "He tells me a lot of nice things."

Grider has also noticed Auburn's increased efforts with Jenkins. He earned several big offers before his sophomore season, including Auburn.

"I don't know that they ever really wavered," Grider said.

Jenkins also just visited Ole Miss. Jenkins is hoping to visit places like Missouri, Miami, Florida and Georgia this spring. He's not sure if he will compete in Alabama's camp in July or not.

Jenkins will participate at The Opening finals in Beaverton, Ore., after he was selected following a strong camp performance at the Charlotte, N.C., regional. He qualified for the state track and field championships in the discus and shot put, but skipped that for the Charlotte regional.

The Opening Finals start Thursday and run through Monday. AL.com will be at the event.

Jenkins said he grew up an Oregon fan because he liked their colors. He has heard from Oregon assistant Mario Cristobal, but hasn't set up a visit.

He could see himself leaving the state to play college football.

"It really doesn't matter," Jenkins said. "I can go anywhere. If it's 13 hours or 16 hours, I just want to play football. I would love to get out of state.

"It would feel good to go out of state and see different things."

Jenkins' next step will be to release his top group of schools in late July or early August. He'll likely take official visits to those schools. Auburn will be one of them.

The recruitment of Mountain Brook star running back Harold Joiner has taken some turns among his top schools.

LSU is no longer the leader or even in the mix
, Joiner told AL.com Tuesday, after the Tigers got three commitments within the past week from running backs. The list includes Madison County's Tae Provens.

Georgia is out of the running as well.
The Bulldogs picked up a commitment from nation's top running back Zamir White on Tuesday. Joiner recently visited there. Both schools are out, Joiner said, after appearing to fill up at running back.

Mountain Brook four-star athlete Harold Joiner plans on camping at Alabama next Monday to see where he best fits in with the Crimson Tide.

Joiner took a trip to Alabama last week and said the Crimson Tide coaches are now recruiting him at running back and receiver. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Joiner is a four-star recruit, ranked as the nation's No. 5 running back and No. 138 overall recruit.

But most schools are recruiting him as an athlete, citing his versatility. Alabama has mentioned tight end before, but Joiner has no desire to do that, he said. If running back doesn't work out and Joiner gets taller, he said he is open to playing receiver.

Auburn remains in the mix as the Tigers have been more open with him about playing running back. He spoke with head coach Gus Malzahn earlier this week, per 247Sports.

Alabama and Auburn are also targeting Austin four-star Asa Martin.

USC, Baylor, Texas, Michigan State and TCU are among the latest offers for Joiner, who has around 30.

Joiner was invited to The Opening finals in Beaverton, Ore., as a running back. We should get more on where his recruitment stands, if there are new favorites or not, by the end of the week as AL.com will be at the event.

Joiner rushed for 744 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior and caught nine passes for 180 yards and two scores.

Some updates from Jake Row from UGA 247

- Seems to think that as of right now UGA has a lead for 5* QB Justin Fields. However, he says the biggest threat is Auburn even though they aren't getting a ton of attention nationally. Distance and Cam Newton are two big things in our favor. Says he does not think it's a done deal that Fields is going to UGA and that he is still very much undecided

- So I guess Rowe did not get the message from Joiner as he seems to think UGA is trending up for 4* ATH Harold Joiner. Also says AU is a team to watch as well

- Not a surprise but it appears UGA has a clear lead for Trey Hill right now

Georgia is going to start cleaning up.

Zamir White commits to Georgia

Zamir White, a 5-star running back from Scotland County High School (Laurinburg, N.C.), committed to Georgia on Tuesday. That decision wasn’t a surprise. The Bulldogs were considered the favorite pretty much since White became a national recruit.

What is surprising was Alabama, not North Carolina, being the runner-up to Georgia. Heading into White’s decision, the Tar Heels were thought to be the Bulldogs’ biggest competitor because he had taken two recent trips to UNC and his best friend, Jonathan Smith, is on the team. White and Smith are pretty much brothers.

So, how was Alabama squarely in the race leading up to White’s decision? The nation’s No. 1 running back made a trip on June 3 to Tuscaloosa with his mother, Shanee, whose birthday was on Tuesday. Since then, White had been in daily talks with the Alabama staff. Several of those conversations were initiated by White himself.

That doesn’t seem like a recruit whose mind was made up a month ago, which he told our Jeff Sentell, who was on the ground at Scotland County High School.

“Georgia is just Georgia to me,” White said. “I’ve known about them and loved them since my freshman year. Georgia has basically been leading for me ever since then.”

White said that he liked Alabama at about “75 percent” of how he felt about UGA. In the end, Georgia’s appealing depth chart won him over. The Bulldogs will lose both of their key running backs after this season in Nick Chubb and Sony Michel. Compare that to the Tide: It’s possible, but not likely, that Bo Scarbrough and Damien Harris return after next season. Even if they left, the Tide have four capable RBs behind them in Josh Jacobs, BJ Emmons, Najee Harris and Brian Robinson.

“Playing time was just huge for me,” he said. “I should be able to play early there.”

The Army All-American has been compared to former Georgia running back Todd Gurley. There are several people in the state of North Carolina who think White is better than Gurley when he was being recruited out of North Carolina.

With White’s commitment, he becomes the 11th top-10 RB in the ESPN300 era to choose Georgia. The Bulldogs have zero national championships and zero SEC championships in that time period.

All eyes on Asa Martin now

Now that White is off the board, all of the attention shifts to 4-star running back Asa Martin out of Austin High School (Decatur, Ala.). Martin now is the clear top target at the position in the Class of 2018.

If White had committed to the Tide, the team would have also taken Martin’s commitment if he decided to play for it, too. Martin will make his decision on Aug. 24 from finalists Alabama, Auburn and Florida.

I like where Alabama stands with Martin as of today. The Crimson Tide, led by offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, have prioritized Martin since he picked up his offer at A-Day in April. Daboll visited Martin multiple times during the evaluation period and saw him in action at his spring game, where he rushed 8 times for 99 yards and 1 touchdown, with a 67-yard receiving score.

When SEC Country visited with the in-state prospect in April, Florida was his leader and Auburn was in second place. Before he was offered by Alabama, he told us that he felt like he wasn’t a good fit for the Tide’s offense.

“I just don’t really know. … I just don’t think it really fits my style very much,” Martin told SEC Country at the time. “The style of running back I am, I don’t really feel like I fit into that style of offense.

“I’m more like of an open-type, shotgun offense. Spread style.”

He has since changed his stance after further evaluation. Alabama likes the fact that Martin is a true three-down running back and has the catching abilities to even line up in the slot on some plays.

“I went down there and Coach Daboll showed me a bunch of new stuff he installed and I could potentially play defense if I went to Alabama,” Martin said.

From talking with sources close to both Auburn and Florida, both programs have lost the confidence they once held in potentially getting Martin’s commitment. My prediction on which running backs sign with those programs? Harold Joiner goes to Auburn and former Alabama commit Dameon Pierce chooses Florida.

LSU puts itself in strong position with Foucha

Joseph Foucha boasts one of the more impressive offer sheets of any defensive back in Louisiana. LSU is the latest team to enter the fray for the standout safety.

The Tigers offered the top-15 Louisiana prospect on Friday after Foucha camped in Baton Rouge during the Thursday session of LSU’s elite high school prospect camp.

The offer did not surprise Foucha, but it did cause a shakeup. The 3-star safety has already released a top 15, but LSU has asserted itself as a major player in the race as Foucha prepares to trim his top schools list down. Consider LSU on pace with favorites such as Auburn, Alabama and Florida State now that he holds the much-anticipated offer.

“It’s shaken things up a lot,” Foucha admitted to SEC Country. “It made me change some numbers at the top (of my top schools list). They’re standing pretty good right now because of the fact that it’s my home-state team and it’s always an honor to play for your home team. Also, the players that they have produced and some that are from my city (New Orleans) like Tyrann Mathieu, Patrick Peterson and Leonard Fournette.”

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound defensive back from McDonogh 35 (La.) High School has been to Auburn, Alabama and now LSU this summer. In fact, this was the second summer in a row that Foucha has camped at LSU.

This time, however, it’s a new coaching staff in place. Ed Orgeron has made a clear attempt to get the best prospects in Louisiana to stay at home. Once Foucha impressed defensive backs coach Corey Raymond and met with New Orleans area recruiter Mickey Joseph, the offer finally came through. Foucha returned to Baton Rouge for Saturday’s camp as a spectator, but had a chance to reconnect with members of the Tigers’ staff.

In other words, there were no hard feelings about LSU offering late. In fact, it was quite the contrary.

“They were impressed with the way I have improved as a player,” Foucha said. “They saw the dog in me. I always knew [the offer] was coming, so I stayed patient and it wasn’t much of a surprise. Honestly, I knew that I had to show and prove why I should have the offer and that I’m the best in the city on film and off film.”

Foucha plans on narrowing down his top schools list, but is in no rush to give a commitment at this juncture in his recruitment. That will likely come in the fall or after his senior season.

Georgia

Georgia native and Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy defensive end Nolan Smith tops the initial Scout100 for a variety of reasons. He checks in at 6-foot-3, just shy of 230 pounds with incredible explosion off the edge as a traditional defensive end or stand-up defender. Developing his pass-rushing arsenal over the last year, he can defeat blockers with speed, power and agility on a given rep and Smith plays with pop and ferocity at the point of attack as well. In today's college football every defense needs players who can affect the passing game soon after the football is snapped and this Georgia Bulldog commitment can get the job done.

The Peach State is loaded in 2019 much like it is in 2018, where it also features the top prospect in the land in Clemson quarterback commitment Trevor Lawrence. Three of the top 10 players in the rising senior class are from Georgia in Lawrence, fellow quarterback Justin Fields and top offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer.

2019 could be more of the same led by Smith and Atlanta (Ga.) Greater Atlanta Christian two-way lineman and NFL legacy prospect Christopher Hinton Jr., who also checks in the top five. Georgia wide receiver commitment Jadon Haselwood, of Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove, currently sits just outside of the top 10 but stands at the top wide receiver prospect in the country at this juncture. Hinton could play tackle, guard or along the defensive line at the next level with his combination of size, strength and athleticism in the trenches. Haselwood is as smooth as it gets on a near 6-foot-3 frame with great length, hands and ability to make plays after the catch as well.

Florida

The state of Florida is always a loaded one and 2019 is no different led by top 10 prospect and top defensive back Akeem Dent, the Pahokee (Fla.) standout who follows 2017s top DB Patrick Surtain out of the Sunshine State. You can insert Dent at cornerback or safety, and this South Florida native flat-out produces all over the field. Dent really gets downhill in a hurry, flashing big-time closing speed and acceleration, but also does a nice job of playing under control. Dent is also fluid with the ability to flip his hips with ease, but overall, this is a pesky defender who has a reputation for making plays a number of different ways. Miami (Fl), Florida, Ohio State, Alabama and LSU are some of the schools sitting in a good spot early on.

Wide receiver is a strong position in Florida early on, with a pair of standouts cracking the Scout 100 at the position in Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage wide receiver John Dunmore and Neptune Beach (Fla.) Fletcher's Jeremiah Payton.

Dunmore, a Florida commit, makes full use of his intriguing wingspan. He is a bouncy, smooth type of athlete who releases off the line with ease, but his ability to track the football away from his body stands out as well. He times his jump, and does a good job of zoning in on the ball. Dunmore makes things look effortless at times. It is difficult to locate freshmen and sophomore receivers who are willing blockers on the perimeter, but that is not an issue for Dunmore. Payton, 6-foot-3, 180 pounds, is a sophomore pass catcher who flashes reliable hands and concentration when extending out for the pigskin. He also does a nice job of exploding off the ground, especially during one-on-one situations in the red zone, but shows the ability to break defenders down after the catch as well.

Payton is known for stretching the field and providing that big play, but is also a willing blocker on the perimeter that does not shy away from physicality. Payton is very lengthy, but must continue to add weight moving forward. He is a disciplined route runner who does a good job of sticking his foot in the dirt and not rounding off his routes. Florida, Miami, Georgia, Auburn and North Carolina are some of the early offers for the Jacksonville native.

Alabama

Alabama has just two members of the 2018 Scout 100 while today's release features five prospects from the Yellowhammer State. Three of the prospects, offensive linemen Clay Webb and Pierce Quick along with quarterback Bo Nix, have long been known commodities. Webb debuts as the state's top prospect and sits as one of the most polished young offensive line prospects on the interior. Quick, who committed to Alabama in April, is a flex prospect who can play either tackle spot or perhaps inside and Nix followed a huge sophomore season with camp and combine efforts that rivaled some of the top 2018 passers given the event. The Auburn legacy has scholarship offers from coast to coast.

Offensive tackle Amari Kight and wide receiver George Pickens have each burst onto the scene this year. Kight is a towering prospect who is powerful and light on his feet and displayed as much in picking up offers from Alabama and Auburn of late. Pickens is a long and lean wide receiver who has only flashed his freakish abilities with the football in the air. At state power Hoover (Ala.) High, he may be set to break out in a big way in 2017. While he awaits an offer from childhood favorite LSU, a recent extension from Auburn could be something to watch closely.

Mississippi

Mississippi doesn't seem very top heavy in 2018 but the 2019 group is quite the opposite. The rising senior class doesn't currently feature a Scout prospect in the top 200 nationally while the initial look at 2019 features a half-dozen in the top 110.

The versatile Charles Moore opens up as the top prospect in the Magnolia State while fellow front-seven prospects Nakobe Dean and Nathan Pickering aren't far behind. Fast-rising cornerback Brandon Turnage, big-play running back Jerrion Ealy and inside-out defensive lineman Byron Young each sit on the cusp of Scout 100 status. None of the four-star Mississippians are currently committed though each has a bevy of SEC scholarship offers to his name already. Those on the ground in the state feel the 2019 class could be the state's best in a decade so the list of Mississippi blue chips could grow even further once the 2017 season is underway.

Lancaster (Calif.) Antelope Valley athlete Devon Williams has been able to glean a lot of advice on the recruiting process from two of his teammates.

Both of those teammates, Morrell Osling and Moses Robinson-Carr, committed to Pac-12 schools before coaching changes, in Robinson-Carr’s case, the head coach, in Osling’s, the position coach.

“Both Morrell and Moses went through coaching changes after making early commitments, so they’ve both told me to just take my time, see as many schools as I can, and make sure the commitment is to the school and not because of the coaches,” said Williams.

So Williams took the advice about seeing as many schools as he can, and in the last two weeks, has visited Alabama, Oregon and UCLA.

The visit sequence started in SEC country with a trip to Tuscaloosa.

“The trip to Alabama was a great experience,” said Williams. “They have great facilities and obviously Alabama is a great team.”

Williams got to meet with head coach Nick Saban while on the visit.

“Coach Saban, he’s a great coach,” said Williams. “He knows what is expected of his players and how they need to train to be the best. They have a great offseason training program.”

Williams is being recruited for both sides of the ball by Alabama, but he said Saban sees him at one specific position.

“They would love me as a receiver,” said Williams. “But Coach Saban sees me as a safety. He said he’d try me at receiver and see how I do, but he said he’d love to see me at safety.”

Williams then went to Oregon last week, the school that Robinson-Carr was committed to initially before Mark Helfrich was let go. Willie Taggart, now the head coach for the Ducks, took a personal interest in Williams on the visit.

“I spent time with all of the coaches,” said Williams. “I had a great time with Coach (Keith) Heyward and Coach (Charles) Clark but it was really great with Coach Taggart. He’s a great coach and great to talk with.”

Williams gave the trip high marks.

“It was a great experience as well,” said Wiliams. “They have a great environment for football and it’s a great school and their program is going to be rising again. They’re looking to do big things with the new staff and I was amazed at how well they’re doing right now.”

Oregon also sees Williams as a two way threat, but have pinpointed offense as his likely spot.

“They want me as a receiver/athlete and would love me on both sides of the ball, but they like my length as a receiver,” said Williams.

Williams ended the week with consecutive trips to UCLA, first for an unofficial visit and another for the Bruin Elite Camp.

“I hung out with the players (on Thursday), with Eldridge (Massington) and DA (Darren Andrews) and then spent a lot of time with the coaches,” said Williams. “They like me as an athlete and all the offensive coaches want me on offense and the defensive coaches want me on defense.”

Robinson-Carr and Osling both signed with UCLA in February and moved to campus this past weekend. So naturally, they’re both recruiting Williams to Westwood.

“Of course they’re recruiting me,” said Williams. “They’ve been recruiting me since I got the offer. But they also want the best situation for me.”

Williams hopes to see a few other schools before the end of summer.

“There are still some other schools I want to see and I just need to get out and check them out,” said Williams. “I’m hoping to get out and see USC, Colorado and Florida State.”

Since his teammates advised him to go through the process, Williams plans to take all five of his official visits.

“I’m definitely hoping to take all five of my trips and I won’t decide until towards the end of my season or maybe after,” said Williams.

This week, Williams heads to Beaverton for The Opening Finals.

“I can’t wait,” said Williams. “It has been something I’ve been dreaming about and it is going to be a great experience for me.”

The race for standout quarterback J.T. Daniels is far from over, but the USC Trojans gained a lot of momentum following a pair of unofficial visits last week.

"USC is definitely a very intriguing option for me right now," Daniels said. "I went to their camp last Monday just to hang out and watch some of my boys who were competing and then came back on Friday for an individual visit. That visit was really eye opening for me and showed me what it would be like if I was a Trojan.

"I got a great vibe about the place and it felt like home to me. I love the environment and the culture at USC and the coaching staff is so real and personable. I spent a lot of time with Tyson Helton (QB coach) and Clay Helton (head coach) and they're both great guys and really easy to talk with. There is a lot to like about the USC program and like I said, I'm really intrigued right now."

Daniels detailed what specifically the Helton brothers talked about.

"The main thing was just what a great school USC is," Daniels said. "You can't beat the location, playing close to home isn't a huge factor but definitely a bonus. Mater Dei quarterbacks have historically done very well there and I really love the offense and how adaptable it is. They fit the offense around the quarterback and his strengths and they showed me how well I would fit in.

"They run a pro-style offense, which is my strength and they give the quarterback a lot of freedom to make checks and reads at the line of scrimmage. They're recruiting at such a high level right now and I have a lot of friends there and also some that are going there. Camren McDonald just committed and we're close and it just feels like USC is building something very special."

The recent de-commitment of 2018 quarterback Matt Corral is another factor helping the Trojans at the moment.

"That definitely caught my eye," Daniels said. "When I saw that go down, I kind of thought to myself, 'hmm, that's interesting.' My goal is to play as a true freshman. I'm open to competition but I want to get in wherever I go, and be able to compete right away.

"I'm on track to be an early grad so I'll be there in the spring so yeh, of course I'm going to notice when a big time quarterback in the class before decides to de-commit. Don't get me wrong though, USC is a really appealing option to me, more so because of the great visit I just took than what happened with Matt. USC just really fits me well in every area but I'm not ready to make a decision right now or anything."

Daniels did say when he finds the right fit, he'll have no problem making an early commitment.

"When I know, I'll commit, but I'm not there yet," Daniels said. "I still have more visits to take and a lot more information to gather. In July, I'm going to visit Michigan and Nebraska. I like Jim Harbaugh a lot that's a school that runs a great system that I think I would fit in well at.

"Nebraska has Mike Riley, who's a great guy and I'm excited to visit and see what the fan base is all about. Before I commit anywhere, I want to visit Stanford and Washington again as well. They're both great programs and are right there with USC at the top for me.

"I had great visits to both programs have tremendous respect for Coach David Shaw at Stanford and Chris Petersen at UW. They both run pro-style offenses, I like the academics at both schools and both programs are winning programs and are recruiting well. So it's going to be a tough decision and I'm in no hurry right now to do anything. I'm just going to play things out but if I get to a point where I do feel really good about one school, I won't hesitate to commit and start recruiting for my school."

Daniels is currently rated the No. 1 quarterback and No. 6 overall recruit in the nation in the just released 2019 rankings. He's coming off an incredible sophomore season that saw him complete 315-423 (75%) passes for 4,849 yards and 67 touchdowns with just six interceptions.

Justin Watkins

Why it could get weird:
This one is already plenty weird.

Watkins recently backed off his commitment to Texas, marking his third decommitment. Watkins has been committed to the Longhorns, LSU and Florida State in the past. FSU is still interested in Watkins, but Ohio State and Louisville are also in play. Watkins recruitment has packed drama since the start, so there’s no telling what the stretch run could have in store. There’s zero chance that Watkins does the seemingly impossible and commits to five different programs. That said, he insists he will wait until Signing Day to announce his choice.

Why it could get weird:
Because Surtain says less than Charlie Chaplin.

Everyone assumes LSU is the leader here, but both Clemson and Florida State are threats. Surtain is not the most outgoing prospect in this class, so much of what is thought about his recruitment is based on word from sources. LSU is still the smart money, but a commitment to FSU or even Clemson is in play. Being the No. 2 overall prospect in a class builds the drama, so expect the rumors about Surtain to pick up this summer.
