IMG Academy is known for collecting tons of talented recruits, and now the Ascenders have so many top players that they need more than one team.

IMG, located in Bradenton, Fla., will field two varsity teams in 2017, according to the Bradenton Herald’s Jason Dill. One of the teams – IMG Blue – will play an 11-game national schedule that includes state champions from Florida, Arizona, Alabama and Utah.

“We went out and tried to find teams who were in the top 150, if however possible,” head coach Kevin Wright told USA Today’s Jim Halley. “We have a grinder. With that said, if you’re trying to prepare a kid at the next level, this is the [high school] equivalent to the SEC schedule, minus the easy non-conference games an SEC team might play.”

The other team – IMG White – will play 10 games against other Florida high schools from the 4A and 3A classifications. Neither squad will compete in the Florida state playoffs.

The Ascenders have a roster of 120 players. Head coach Kevin Wright said he thinks the split will allow more players to see the field. He also said players on the White team will get the chance to move up to the Blue team.

“Probably the greatest element is the ability for all 120 kids to get that Friday night lights experience,” Wright said.

IMG puts out tons of top recruits every year. A ton of highly touted former IMG players like 5-star quarterback Shea Patterson (Ole Miss), 5-star running back Bo Scarbrough (Alabama) and 5-star linebacker Dylan Moses (Alabama) have ended up at SEC programs.

The Ascenders’ Blue team opens its season at home Aug. 26 against Florida 6A state champion Carol City in a Kickoff Classic exhibition. The White team will start the season at home against Nature Coast on Aug. 25

Take a look at LSU's 17 commitments in 2018, their highlights and recruiting tidbits

quote:

Who: Kelvin Joseph

School: Scotlandville

Position: Cornerback

Height: 6-1

Weight: 193

Ranked: 4-star

Tidbit from recruiting analyst James Smith: "Joseph is an explosive, versatile defensive back that could play multiple positions in the secondary. His size and physicality make for an intriguing safety prospect, while his speed and fluidity would allow him to play cornerback at the next level."

Junior Highlights

I'm getting the feeling his recruitment is Shaun Wade's all over again.

Tidbit from recruiting analyst James Smith: "Nadab Joseph looks like your prototypical LSU defensive back: long and lean. He has fluid hips and the type of quickness and speed that would allow him to play cornerback at the next level, which may end up being the position he plays."

Highlights

We offered him two weekends ago at camp as a Corner.

So we have a Safety offer out to LSU's highest rated CB and a Corner offer out to their Safety.

Within the last two weeks, Georgia 2018 defensive tackle Darnell Jefferies took unofficial visits to LSU, Alabama, Georgia and Clemson.

The 6-foot-3, 275-pound Jefferies made his college announcement on Monday via Twitter. The three-star recruit committed to Clemson over the others.

Jefferies told NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune he "enjoyed every minute" of his visit to LSU earlier this month.

In early May, Jefferies released a top 10 list which featured LSU, along with Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Georgia, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, Oregon, Louisville and South Carolina.

We offered another player from IMG Academy yesterday. He's in the Class of 2018 and is a Corner:

Houston Griffith Highlights

Notre Dame has the most CBs for him. I remember reading his name after some big camp a few weeks ago where he was dominant. I'll see if I can track down the article.

Flip watch on for LSU DB commit?

Nadab Joseph visited Tuscaloosa last week. Before he left, the Crimson Tide extended an offer his way. That moment was more than a month in the making.

Joseph, a 4-star defensive back from Champagnant Catholic School (Hialeah, Fla.), told SEC Country that Alabama coaches have been in frequent contact with him for that duration of time. Once he visited, an offer was expected.

The nation’s No. 20 safety in the Class of 2018, according to the 247Sports Composite, is being recruited as a cornerback by Alabama. That’s important because it’s one of the team’s biggest, if not the biggest, positions of need.

Alabama’s top targets in this year’s class include: Tyson Campbell, Josh Jobe, Patrick Surtain Jr., Jalyn Armour-Davis, Kyler McMichael and Jaycee Horn. Joseph is working his way up the list. It should be noted that Alabama isn’t considered the favorite to land Campbell, Surtain and McMichael. Jobe is committed to Miami. So, it’s likely that a spot for Joseph is open to join the class.

With Alabama desperately needing some corners this year as Tony Brown and Anthony Averett will exhaust eligibility and Minkah Fitzpatrick is a likely candidate to declare for the NFL draft, the Tide need several corners to step in right away.

“Coach (Nick) Saban and (defensive backs) Coach (Derrick) Ansley talked to me about that a lot,” Joseph told SEC Country. “We went over the depth chart and they told me I’m one of the best they’ve seen and that I can definitely come in and compete to play early. It definitely gives me something to think about.”

Joseph committed to LSU in June of 2016. His commitment to the Tigers should be considered shaky at best. He told Jeff Sentell of DawgNation in March that he was ’82 percent’ committed. Which, as an aside, is hilarious because how does one classify that they are precisely 82 percent committed to something?

While he didn’t specify a percentage this go around, it’s clear that a de-commitment wouldn’t be a surprise in the near future.

“My recruitment isn’t shut down, and it can possibly open up completely soon,” Joseph said. “I will be taking all five official visits.”

To LSU’s credit, the Tigers still have Joseph on their commitment list because of defensive backs coach Corey Raymond. If Raymond wasn’t in Baton Rouge, Joseph likely would’ve de-committed by now.

“Coach Raymond has always been real with me,” Joseph said. “That’s my guy. But, I just don’t want to miss an opportunity somewhere else if I end up not feeling LSU is the right place.”

Joseph named several schools — not just — who have him thinking on his commitment. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect said if any school had a “slight lead” for his services that it would be LSU.

“Alabama, Georgia, FSU and Oregon are right up there with LSU,” Joseph said. “LSU used to be way out in front, but I’ve been impressed with Georgia the last couple times I’ve been up there and I’ve always liked ‘Bama. I love the atmosphere in Tallahassee. Oregon — I like their staff. I just want to see the school.

“But, I would say ‘Bama and Georgia are right there with each other.”

One interesting factor for Alabama’s chances with Joseph is the fact that his legal guardian is one of Tide safety Ronnie Harrison’s cousins. Harrison and Joseph have a very strong bond. When Joseph visited last week, he spent a lot of time with Harrison. He’s also close with Deionte Thompson.

“Ronnie and I are very close, so I guess you can say like we are cousins,” Joseph said. Ronnie and DT are on me hard. They’re telling me that they know I can come in and play. Ronnie would probably be leaving (next season), but it will be really fun to play with DT.”

Joseph acknowledged that Coach Raymond has asked Joseph several times on his status with his commitment to LSU, but he hasn’t pressured him to keep his word to the Tigers.

At this point, though, it would be a surprise if Joseph is committed to LSU by the end of summer. As for a possible de-commitment in the near future?

“It’s very possible,” Joseph said.

82% committed.

Texas wide receiver Tommy Bush high on Alabama

Tommy Bush, a 4-star wide receiver from Samuel Clemens High School (Schertz, Texas), wrapped up a southeastern tour of schools that included Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt over the weekend.

Bush, the nation’s No. 33 wide receiver in the Class of 2018, has been on the Crimson Tide’s radar for some time now; however, it’s unclear where he stands on the board at the position because in-state targets Justyn Ross and Seth Williams are the clear top dogs as far as X and Z receivers are concerned.

But, Bush said he’s talking to the Alabama staff several times a week.

“They are communicating with me quite often,” Bush told SEC Country. “I talk to Coach (Burton) Burns, the running backs coach, and Coach (Mike) Locksley, the wide receivers coach, and I’ve talked to Coach (Nick) Saban a couple of times, too. So, I talk to Alabama quite a bit.”

Bush is an interesting prospect because of his size and speed. He’s 6-foot-4, 193 pounds. There aren’t many wide receivers in the country bigger than him. He’s also been clocked at 4.47 seconds in the 40-yard dash, which is elite speed for a player at his size.

The Texas product isn’t anywhere close to making a decision. He said he would like to make a top 10 before his senior season begins, which is an indication of just how far away he is to really narrowing down his recruitment process. When he does make that list, though, Alabama will make the cut.

“The new offensive coordinator (Brian Daboll) is going to have a beautiful offense for Alabama,” Bush said. “It’s in the SEC. They have several wide receivers in the NFL. They’re definitely going to put you in the league. With Coach Saban there, you know that staff is going to be stable. It’s pretty easy to have interest in them.”

Saban has told Bush that if he did go to Alabama that they would like him at the ‘X.’ For context, that’s the position Cam Sims lines up at. Sims will be gone after this season, as will Robert Foster. Calvin Ridley is a likely candidate to declare for the draft, too.

But, there’s some depth at the position. Alabama signed four receivers in the Class of 2017. Tyrell Shavers would be the closest comparison to Bush in regards to size and speed. Shavers is 6-foot-6 and was clocked at 4.38 in the 40-yard dash.

Bush believes that the opportunity for significant playing time, though, is there for the taking if he did commit to the Tide.

“I feel like I could play a big role there,” Bush said.

Alabama remains in good position for both Justyn Ross and Seth Williams. If both of them end up choosing the Tide, it’s hard to imagine there being space for Bush, too. But if Alabama misses on either, it’s very possible Bush could be that next recruit the team strongly pursues.

Alabama makes top 10 for OL Jerome Carvin

Jerome Carvin, a 3-star offensive lineman from Cordova (Tenn.) High School, released his top 10 on Monday. Alabama, along with Arkansas, Auburn, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Tennessee were the SEC schools to make the cut.

I know some fans may grumble and say why is Alabama recruiting a 3-star offensive lineman, but the Crimson Tide really like Carvin’s game. He does hold a committable offer from Alabama, and I think that’s where he’ll commit when he makes his commitment.

Carvin is being recruited as a guard and is expected to return to Tuscaloosa in July for Alabama’s camp. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him give a commitment at that time.

News from the Auburn point of view:

Safety calls Auburn the leader after recent visit

AUBURN, Ala. — Joe Foucha’s second visit to Auburn served a much different purpose than the first.

The 3-star safety from New Orleans made a trip to the Plains a month ago simply to see if he felt comfortable at Auburn. Foucha had grown up a self-proclaimed fan of the Tigers and Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton, but he’d never actually been on campus. It passed the litmus test on the first go-around.

His second visit went even further to separate Auburn from his lengthy list of suitors.

“I would say Auburn’s leading right now out of my top 15, and I do see Auburn being in my top-2 or top-3. I’m not sure yet who with, but they’ll definitely be in my top-2 or top-3,” Foucha said. “It’s basically a school I’ve been looking at since I was young. They showed me more than football. It’s on my mind.”

As Foucha referenced above, he’s trimmed his top schools to 15. That list includes Auburn, TCU, Kansas, Oregon, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Florida State, Alabama, Ole Miss, Oregon State, Arizona State, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas-San Antonio and Texas A&M.

He wants to narrow that to at least five before it gets into the heat of summer, so that he has a chance to visit his top options. Auburn will definitely be in there. The other schools to keep an eye on are Alabama and Florida State. Foucha attended Alabama’s camp shortly after Big Cat Weekend, and his priority with the Crimson Tide will be monitored.

There’s no worries about whether he feels wanted at Auburn.

“Coach (Greg) Brown, he’s a good man. Ever since we first started talking, we haven’t stopped. Sometimes I send him stuff. Sometimes he sends me stuff. Coach T-Will (Travis Williams), he’s a real energetic guy. I love that. It makes me perform well. Energy brings a lot to the table. Coach (Kodi) Burns,” Foucha said. “Those two coaches show a lot of love, more than football. It’s big.”

Foucha isn’t in a huge rush to decide, but he also isn’t ruling out any timetable — long or short.

Auburn has an outstanding chance to land the McDonogh (La.) 35 safety regardless. One of the biggest things that stood out about his Big Cat Weekend visit was that Foucha exchanged phone numbers with a few other secondary prospects who attended the big recruiting event.

“Actually, it’s a few safeties [recruits] I knew. We collabed a while back, and it’s a cornerback, too. Us three guys [Foucha, Jamien Sherwood and Juanyeh Thomas] will be keeping in touch a lot,” Foucha said.

They were three crucial defensive back visitors for Big Cat Weekend. All three exchanged numbers and intend to stay in touch about recruiting. That’s a major positive, especially since all three are top priorities for the Tigers.

Foucha felt like he was able to form memorable bonds with coaches, players and prospects alike, which sets Auburn apart from other visits.

“It’s a traditional school I like. It’s a school I’ve been looking at for a while. Me coming up here and seeing it, it’s changed my thoughts even more, put it up even higher. The coaches, the head coach, he’s a good guy. He’s a caring guy. I met his wife. She cares. It’s more than football. It’s like a family here,” Foucha said. “I’ll be back up here a lot. This is my second time coming. I’ll probably come again. Things are high for Auburn.”

Auburn offers 2020 phenom

Over the next month or so, the college football recruiting world will be asking the same question: Where is Justin Fields going? That question will likely be answered sooner rather than later. Then it’ll become: Where is Bo Nix going?

There’s no doubt who the question will center around when it gets to the 2020 recruiting cycle.

Meet Harrison Bailey.

It’s too early for Bailey to be ranked by most recruiting services. He’s only a rising sophomore, after all. But when he’s eventually ranked, Bailey will be a 5-star from start to finish. He’s already received offers from — get this — Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Mississippi State, North Carolina State, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M and others.

He added one from Auburn on Monday.

Just received an offer from Auburn! ??????#WarEagle pic.twitter.com/RWiUXxJc5i

— Harrison Bailey (@HBailey_05) June 13, 2017

Georgia and Alabama have been on him most in the early going. Bailey recently told SEC Country’s Jeff Sentell that Florida actually classified as his “dream school” growing up. But it’ll be interesting to see how, if at all, Auburn can get into the conversation for the 6-foot-4, 215-pound passer.

Auburn has hit a hot streak at quarterback recently.

This is purely hypothetical — and there is a ton of work left to make this happen — but imagine the 180-degree narrative for the Tigers’ quarterback situation if this possibility were to pan out.

2017 class: Jarrett Stidham, Malik Willis
2018 class: Justin Fields, Joey Gatewood
2019 class: Bo Nix
2020 class: Harrison Bailey

Again, that is a perfect outcome. It’s best-case scenario. But Auburn, maybe more than any program, has so much to gain from successful offensive production this fall. With apparently enhanced quarterback play and a new offensive coordinator, the Tigers have a chance to alter the perception of Auburn as a primetime quarterback destination going forward.

Bailey’s most recent visit to Auburn was for the Clemson game last September.

Man I hope we land this kid. He may be the best QB to come out in a long, long time.

Top in-state DE target to make multi-day visit

I’ve been telling Auburn folks to stay positive about about Andres Fox for most of his recruitment.

Despite his Crimson Tide upbringing, Fox has stayed loyal to the fact the Tigers offered him first, immediately following his state championship game performance last fall. He hinted that he’d heard rumblings — true or not — that Alabama and LSU wouldn’t have offered were it not for Auburn’s initial faith in him.

Following Big Cat Weekend, he said he didn’t commit — and hadn’t thought about it — because he promised two programs that he’d take one more visit before making a final decision. What’s interesting about that is he hasn’t had enough time to visit one school, let alone two.

He wants to visit LSU, Alabama, Southern Cal and Stanford (recently offered) before he makes his decision. But a return trip to Auburn can only mean great things for the Tigers.

Fox will be in Auburn for multiple days this time. He’ll be without his parents, who are fully sold on all the schools involved now, so this will be about Fox trying to find his fit within the culture of the program. He hopes to develop a few closer relationships with players on the existing roster, as well as coaches Kevin Steele, Rodney Garner and Travis Williams.

You know, he may be on to something here. I just don't get the feeling that we are after him as hard as others.

4-star DL Trevor Trout participates in Arkansas camp

Things are going well for 2018 defensive lineman Trevor Trout on his first-ever trip to Arkansas.

A 4-star recruit according to 247Sports composite rankings, Trout arrived in Fayetteville on Monday for a two-day visit.

“So far, so good,” Trout said Monday afternoon. “The facilities are SEC caliber, as you would expect. It’s a little bit country, but I like it. So far, I’d say pretty solid.”

Trout (6-foot-3, 310 pounds) took part in drills Monday during the first day of the Razorbacks’ two-day high school camp. The majority of his teammates and several coaches from Chaminade High School in St. Louis also were on hand. One of the Chaminade coaches has a close relationship with Arkansas running backs coach Reggie Mitchell.

While taking part in the camp, Trout received plenty of 1-on-1 attention from John Scott Jr. — the Hogs’ new defensive line coach.

“I think [Scott is] a pretty good guy,” Trout said. “He has great character. I want to get to know him a little bit more.”

On Tuesday, Trout will get a different perspective on everything the Razorbacks have to offer. That’s when he’ll go through an in-depth visit of the facilities and speak more with the coaches.

Trout’s visit is coming at the right time for the Hogs. He expects to soon narrow his list of 15 top schools, which he released last month. That list included Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Penn State, Oklahoma and several other major programs.

“After this week, maybe next week, I’m going to cut it a little bit more,” Trout said. “There’s a possibility [Arkansas] could make the cut. I’m visiting Oklahoma on [June] 17-19, so that may shake things up a bit.”

For now, Trout plans to wait until the second signing period next February to announce his college choice. He’s leaving open the possibility a decision could come earlier if he becomes certain a school has exactly what he’s seeking.

“I want it to be where I can feel comfortable,” Trout said. “Somewhere, even if I didn’t play football, I’d still like being there. And just knowing the coaching staff is going to be there and going to be honest with me. There’s a lot of really good schools.”

1. EVALUATING THE RIVALS100 PROSPECTS

Here’s my quick takeaway on the 2018 Rivals100 prospects that were on hand at the Five Star Challenge this past weekend.

No. 1 QB Trevor Lawrence – Impressive as always and flashed that competitor’s fire after his team lost its first two games.

No. 4 WR Amon-Ra St. Brown – As dominant as advertised, he is clearly the best wide receiver this year.

No. 7 QB Matt Corral – He struggled a lot, but in his defense he had two flight delays and a couple hours of sleep.

No. 8 QB Justin Fields – Very impressive as he went toe to toe with Lawrence for best quarterback honors.

No. 9 CB Anthony Cook – A little grabby at times, he’s still very fluid and his closing speed is great.

No. 15 DE K.J. Henry – He’s adding weight, which is good, and looked great in some reps and average in others.

No. 16 RB James Cook – Cook was dominant when he wanted to be. Sometimes he can get bored, and that’s what happened in the evening session.

No. 20 WR Terrace Marshall Jr. – Big and fluid and a good route runner, but didn’t dominate either session.

No. 22 WR Devonta Jason – Not the fastest receiver out there, but he does everything well. But like Marshall, he didn’t dominate.

No. 27 CB Isaac Taylor-Stuart – He has a freaky upside, the sky is the limit on his potential.

No. 29 OT Penei Sewell – Technique is off at times and he could be a guard, but his ceiling is very high.

No. 32 DE Brenton Cox – Bigger each time we see him and can dominate when he wants, but at times can lose focus.

No. 33 LB Amari Gainer – He struggled in space more than I expected but was better in the evening than in the morning.

No. 35 CB Al Blades – Had a great start and a solid finish but I’m still waiting for that breakout performance.

No. 36 WR Brennan Eagles – A big kid who can run, he could be special with a few tweaks to his game.

No. 37 DT Michael Thompson – He was erratic at times, but when he’s on his game and gets off the snap well he can crush the pocket.

No. 38 WR Al’Vontre Woodard – Up and down all day, he’s a solid route runner with good hands but was inconsistent a bit like Marshall Jr. and Jason.

No. 45 LB Teradja Mitchell – These camps aren’t his thing as a huge inside linebacker, but I thought he did well and held his own.

No. 47 DB Derrik Allen – He struggled a bit, especially with faster, sudden receivers and change of direction.

No. 48 DT Rick Sandidge – He killed it in the morning but faded a bit in the afternoon. His ceiling is outstanding, however.

No. 49 RB Jaelen Gill – I loved him. He’s fast, he can catch with ease and around the corner he’s electric.

No. 51 S Jaiden Woodbey – A big athlete, he played both sides of the ball and was very effective at each position.

No. 53 OG Trey Hill – He’s built to dominate in a phone booth and he showed a lot of that in both sessions.

No. 58 LB Solomon Tuliaupupu – Like Mitchell, this isn’t an event made for his skill set, but he had a solid day.

No. 59 QB Justin Rogers – His fastball is awesome, he just needs some more touch on his short and intermediate passes.

No. 67 RB Ricky Slade – He didn’t have a dominant afternoon as he wasn’t targeted that much, but he showed that change of direction in the morning.

No. 77 LB Zakoby McClain – McClain struggled a bit in coverage which was surprising, because that’s one of his strengths at linebacker.

No. 80 WR Alontae Taylor – Taylor wasn’t as big a factor as expected in the morning or during the 7-on-7 session.

No. 85 OT Nana Asiedu – Asiedu struggled most of the day, just a half step slow out of his stance too often.

No. 88 WR Elijah Moore – Moore flashed his trademark speed, especially in the morning, and had a solid afternoon as well.

No. 90 ATH Cameron Jurgens – Jurgens isn’t the fastest tight end but he’s a huge target and boxed defenders out fairly well.

No. 93 OT Rasheed Walker – Walker continue to impress each time I see him and I felt he had a consistent day.

No. 99 WR Xavier Williams – Williams gains separation as easily as anyone, but he’s still having trouble catching the ball consistently.

No. 100 LB Alston Orji – Orji struggled a bit like most of the linebackers early, but I thought he was solid in the 7-on-7.

2. RECRUITING LOCKS

There were many prospects on hand at the Five-Star Challenge that remain uncommitted, but in talking to sources, other prospects and reading the tea leaves, here are a few 2018 guys I feel are near locks for certain schools…

Rasheed Walker to Penn State - I’d be shocked if he ends up anyplace else after so many visits. I guess it depends on if a different visit blows him away.

Al Blades to Miami – He’s selling us on Tennessee now, but if he ends up anyplace but Miami, I’d be stunned.

Brennan Eagles to Texas – Many think this had been a done deal for quite some time, but time will tell.

Kevin Austin to Notre Dame – It could be Duke, but I doubt it. I think he wants academics badly and Notre Dame has the better football in his mind as well.

Ja’Marr Chase to LSU – I don’t see him leaving the state when all is said and done.

George Takacs to Notre Dame – Tough to say a lock, but I will boldly predict this anyhow. He’s at the very least a heavy lean.

Isaac Taylor-Stuart to USC— He will visit other places, but I don’t see him choosing anyone but the Trojans barring something crazy.

Trey Hill to Georgia – He seems to want to wait to decide, but if he ends up anyplace but Georgia I’d be surprised.

Kearis Jackson to Georgia – He has many options and is looking around a bit, but many feel this has been a done deal for the Dawgs for quite some time.

Channing Tindall to South Carolina – Too early to call this? Nope. He stays home and plays for the Gamecocks.
