I've been taking it easy on them lately.

Maybe it's time the old TideSaint came back to the Rant. They seem to have forgotten the arse kickings I like to dole out.

Can any of you Twitter experts check to see what Coynis Miller announced earlier?

I can't find it anywhere.

Nothing yet. Here is his Twitter: LINK

He posted on May 20th that his top 8 was coming soon. As far as I can see, that hasn't been posted, so I am thinking his big announcement tonight is a top ___.

CORDELE, Ga. — Quay Walker became Alabama’s third commitment in the Class of 2018 after he announced his decision in an exclusive video with SEC Country on Thursday.

Walker, a 4-star linebacker from Crisp County High School, listed the Crimson Tide as his leader for a few months now. His visit over the weekend to Tuscaloosa sealed the deal.

A conversation with freshman linebacker VanDarius Cowan, who was a big recruiter for Alabama in the Class of 2017, on Sunday solidified in Walker’s mind that the Crimson Tide was the team he wanted to play for.

“He played a big role in this,” Walker told SEC Country. “With everything he’s told me and how he’s been pushed to be better already in only about a week since he’s been there, that meant a lot to me.

“That was my first time meeting him. He told me that if I did go there, I would be great. You’re going to be pushed hard. He told me that he wasn’t going to lie and say I’ll start immediately. I’m going to have to work for everything I get.”

Though Walker is listed as an outside linebacker on scouting sites, the Alabama coaching staff has told him that he can play both inside and outside in the Tide’s 3-4 defense. On third downs, he’ll likely be used as a pass rushing linebacker.

Auburn finished No. 2 for Walker. South Carolina was third. The main reason why Alabama beat out both of those schools, though, goes back to Cowan and all of his other future teammates in Tuscaloosa.

“I really want to be great with teammates that I know for a fact are going to push me every day and coaches who are going to help me get better,” Walker said. “The biggest thing was my future teammates. Those guys are great.”

Committing to Alabama was likely going to happen once he brought his mother, Kameisha Shilloh, there for a visit, which happened for the first time this past Saturday and Sunday. Walker told SEC Country in early May that once his mother signed off on him going to Alabama, it was a done deal.

The Alabama coaching staff has been pushing for Walker, one of the team’s top linebacker targets, to commit for several months now. But, he was clear to Nick Saban that he wasn’t going to do so until his mother made the trip.

He gave his commitment to the staff while in Tuscaloosa this past weekend.

“Once I told him what I wanted to do, he told me that I can’t just be committed to Alabama, I need to be committed to the process,” Walker explained. “When I told him I was, he was really happy. Coach Saban doesn’t smile too often, but when he does, you know that means something.”

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound prospect said he never wavered once on his stance of Alabama leading the way for his commitment during the stretch of time when he originally said that was the case in April.

He took trips to Auburn and South Carolina, but those schools couldn’t change his mind.

Not even his “big bro” Markaviest “Big Cat” Bryant couldn’t sway him. Bryant, a former 4-star prospect himself out of Crisp County High School, signed with Auburn last year.

Walker told Bryant before he committed to Alabama that he was going to do. Bryant was happy for Walker, but was disappointed that they weren’t going to line up across from each other on the same defense one more time.

“If I can’t talk to anybody, I know I can talk to him whenever I want, but I already told him Roll Tide and we’re going to win more games than they are,” Walker said with a laugh. “That was the last message I sent him and he didn’t respond, so I guess he got a little upset with that.”

I really hope that Cowan can help as much recruiting as Reuben did.

I think he can. He seems to love Alabama.

I hope he can have the same type of impact on the field as Reuben as well.

I just want to point out that we are now over 2,000 posts ahead of the Auburn thread. They were at one point almost 100 more than us.

TidalSurge has been hit or miss the last few years. He seems to come and go.

He used to be one of the moderators at tidesports back in the day. Maybe he is posting over there ?

We're beginning to sign long, lean LBs who can run and have absurd windspans like they're a dime a dozen. Walker looks a lot like Chris Allen physically. Hopefully he blows up like Allen did (or should have done in the ratings, which is still the biggest mystery in the 2016-17 recruiting rankings to me) last cycle. I'm very impressed with his video.

Emmit Gooden sandwiched his family vacation between trips to Alabama and UAB.

Both schools are after the 6-foot-4, 310-pound top junior college recruit at Independence (Kan.) Community College. Gooden is the nation's No. 8 overall junior college recruit and No. 2 defensive tackle per the 247Sports composite, and a three-star recruit.

Gooden, who will be a December graduate, had 55 tackles, 13.5 for loss with four sacks and two forced fumbles in seven games as a freshman.

Gooden made his first trip to UAB on Thursday and participated in the Blazers' camp.

"Me and (defensive line) Coach (Kyle) Tatum have been talking a long time about this camp and coming on campus period. I liked it," Gooden said. "Everything is brand new right now. It's about to be something good going on. I got a chance to perform on the field today. As far as the coaches, they're very laid back and very real."

UAB has made Gooden a priority for this year's class.

"They want me pretty bad," Gooden said. "I'm one of the top guys on the board, D-Line and as far as 2018 class. They said my character fits them.

"I'm considering them very high due to it's close to home (Brownsville, Tenn.) and somewhere I can go and be a legend."

Gooden received an offer from Alabama late last month and stopped by on Saturday to meet with head coach Nick Saban.

"It was great," Gooden said. "I got a chance to see everything I needed to see and meet all the coaches and see where I stand with the program."

Great visit today can't wait to get back to Title Town soon #RollTide [?] pic.twitter.com/Y8LtwqYIt3
-- TheRealEmmitG (@What_A_Star5) June 3, 2017

Alabama usually inks a junior college defensive lineman, signing Isaiah Buggs and Jamar King in each of the last two years.

"I feel like I stand at the top," Gooden said. "Coach said they need D-Linemen with the class. Da'Ron Payne and (Da'Shawn) Hand are likely going to the Draft, so they need some guys at my position."

Gooden isn't in a rush to commit. He said he'll soon announce a top 12, having narrowed it down from 20. Alabama will for sure be in and UAB has a good chance after this visit, he said. Schools like Louisville, Oklahoma, Georgia, Southern Cal, Arkansas and Missouri have also offered.

"They told me to take my time," Gooden said. "Whenever I feel comfortable and confident with my decision, I'll make it."

Projecting where the top uncommitted Louisiana prospects end up

quote:

No. 20-T Glenn Beal, TE, John Curtis, Pick: LSU

Beal almost committed to LSU on National Signing Day earlier this year, but decided to pull back, as the Tigers moved to replace his area recruiter, Jabbar Juluke. The LSU staff continued to press for Beal, and they appear to be the leaders at this stage.

No. 17 Slade, Bolden, ATH, West Monroe, Pick: TCU

Bolden's offer list grew exponentially this spring, but TCU remains the leader in the race. The Horned Frogs made quite the impression on Bolden during his recruitment and I just don't see anyone catching them at this point.

No. 13 Lawrence Keys, WR, McDonogh 35, Pick: LSU

Keys has kept his true feelings tucked away, but it will be hard for someone to beat LSU, if they continue to push for his services. I think Texas and Florida could make a big push here, but the home team LSU Tigers should be able to pull this one out.

No. 7 Dare Rosenthal, OL/DL, Ferriday: Pick: LSU

Rosenthal decommitted from Alabama, while on an unofficial visit to LSU earlier this year, but his camp has been mum in regards to his leaders ever since. Sources from the area believe Rosenthal will end up at LSU, with the Tigers' desire to play him on the defensive line being a major plus. At this point, I expect him to be in LSU's class when all signatures are final.

Quay Walker didn’t want an ordinary announcement

Quay Walker, a 4-star linebacker from Crisp County High School (Cordele, Ga.), committed to Alabama in an exclusive video with SEC Country on Thursday. His plan to commit to Alabama has been in place since at least May 11.

On that day, I visited Walker at his school to catch up with him and learn where he was in his recruitment process. He told me that day that he was likely going to choose the Crimson Tide. He was clear, though, that he wasn’t going to choose Alabama until his mother could visit Tuscaloosa. She did for the first time this past weekend. It was done at that point.

Walker also told me on that day that he wanted to announce his commitment in a video because he thought posting a tweet with an edit and a note was boring.

We recently hired a full-time video director — who’s stationed at our Atlanta headquarters — so filming the video didn’t present too much of a hassle despite the 300-plus-mile round trip.

Walker called me on Monday to let me know he was ready to commit and film the video. I appeared on Tide 102.9 in Tuscaloosa on Monday and hinted at the upcoming decision. I said, “If everything goes according to plan, Alabama will have at least one commitment by the end of the week.” I was talking about Walker. I didn’t want to 100 percent say a commit was going down because I didn’t want to get scooped by another reporter who may have been listening, and recruits change their mind daily when it comes to their recruitment.

The nation’s No. 11 outside linebacker, according to 247Sports composite rankings, had already silently committed to Alabama during the time I went on the radio Monday afternoon, but he wanted to publicly announce his decision to play for the Crimson Tide in a video.

Nate Gettleman, our video director, and I arrived in Cordele, Ga., at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday and were done shooting the video at 9:45 p.m. The Crisp County staff was very courteous with its time, staying with us the entire time to open doors inside the school and turn on the stadium lights.

The final product ended up being a little more than a minute long, but we still filmed for more than 3 hours to get as many shots as we possibly could. The more clips, the better the video can turn out.

Gettleman spent the majority of his Thursday morning and afternoon editing the commitment video. We ended up editing four different versions. Walker didn’t like the ending for the first two versions, which had him place an Alabama hat on a Cougar statue outside of Crisp County’s stadium.

The video was finished at 4 p.m. ET before we decided to publish it at 6 p.m. Walker became the Tide’s third commitment in the Class of 2018. Alabama needed some momentum on the recruiting trail and the Tide got it with one of their top targets going public with his decision.

Here is a video from Buggs on how they ended workouts this morning. This kinda ruins the "it's all business at Bama" narrative
