Alabama unless Zamir White picks us later this month. If that happens I think he goes to either Auburn or Florida. He wants to be the only back in our class.

Justin Fields has been committed to Penn State since last Dec. 1, but no longer.
Fields, a five-star quarterback from Kennesaw, Ga., announced his decommitment from the school on Tuesday. The 6-foot-3, 221-pound Fields' stock has soared since last fall and he is now ranked as the No. 6 prospect in the country per the 247Sports composite rankings.
Fields called the decision "probably the hardest decision I've ever had to make," adding that it was "not easily made." Schools have continued to recruit Fields hard since his commitment to Penn State.
Alabama and Auburn have offered Fields and are targeting him heavily.
Fields threw for 2,770 yards and 23 touchdowns with just six interceptions as a junior. He added 1,176 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.
Expect Alabama and Auburn to both be in the mix. Alabama does not have a quarterback committed. Auburn has a commitment in Joey Gatewood from Jacksonville, Fla., but would like to sign a second.
Fields will be at The Opening Finals in Beaverton, Ore., later this month from June 28-July 3. AL.com will be at the event.
Fields said that Penn State would remain among his top schools. Florida State, LSU, Georgia, Florida and many other power five programs are also in the mix.

Alabama knocks it out of the park with Penei Sewell
The visit to Tuscaloosa could not have been any better for the Sewell family.
Penei Sewell, a 4-star offensive tackle from Desert Hills High School (St. George, Utah), arrived in Alabama on Sunday with his parents and stayed until Tuesday. It was the family’s first time visiting Tuscaloosa, and it was a visit that has the Crimson Tide strongly in the mix to land the nation’s No. 5 tackle’s commitment when he makes his decision.
“I think it went very well, and I think that would be an understatement,” Gabriel Sewell, Penei’s father, told SEC Country. “It definitely opened up our eyes to something totally different. I couldn’t find anything wrong, even if I tried so hard. After this visit and talking to everyone, you really have to put some major effort into failing if you went there.”
A Big "FA'AFETAI" to Coach Saban and the entire Univ of Alabama staff for a great experience on this unofficial visit. God Bless. #RollTide pic.twitter.com/iMOQSk17Mh
— Gabriel Sewell, Sr. (@gsewell_sr) June 6, 2017
Gabriel expounded on what he meant by that last part of his quote. Nick Saban spent significant time explaining to the family how the program sets up the players to not only succeed on the field but also mentally and after football.
Saban told the Sewells that he believes if Penei ended up committing to Alabama, he would have a great chance of making it to the NFL one day. That makes this next quote somewhat interesting.
“We, as a family, need to figure out which school is going to be the best option to help achieve his goals of making it to the NFL,” Gabriel said. “You do the math. I don’t have to tell you what school that may be.”

How Alabama separated itself from other schools
Kerry Stevenson’s office is located in Alabama’s sprawling weight room.
He’s a staff member that gets almost no publicity. In my nearly two years on the Alabama recruiting beat, no one has mentioned Stevenson, who has been in Tuscaloosa since 2013, in any interview I’ve conducted.
But Stevenson should get major credit for placing Alabama in a great position to land one of the nation’s top players.
“The individual who caught the attention of my wife and I outside of Nick Saban, whose impact is profound, was Kerry Stevenson,” Gabriel said. “He shared a few things with us that as parents means a lot. We’ve visited a lot of colleges, and I can say that our visit with him kind of separates Alabama from other schools we’ve been to. He talked about everything but football.”
The family’s conversation with Stevenson wasn’t the only thing unique about the multi-day stay in Tuscaloosa. Penei spent the majority of his time hanging out with Alabama players and 2019 offensive tackle commit Pierce Quick. His father said usually when they’ve made visits to colleges in the past, Penei hangs out with the coaches and his family only. He clicked with the Crimson Tide.
“This weekend, I left him to hang out with the players,” his father said. “He’s never done that before on a visit. Last night, I picked him up around 1 a.m. after he was hanging out with several of the offensive linemen. When he met Tua [Tagovailoa] on [Tuesday], we were almost late for a flight because he was having a great time with him. I think that says how much he enjoyed it.”
He wasn’t exaggerating when he said they almost missed their flight. The Sewells were called by the gate agents as they were in the TSA line. They needed to run to the gate and the door to the plane closed right after they got on. He didn’t want to stop hanging out with Tagovailoa, who also is Samoan.
Unlike Tagovailoa, though, who grew up wanting to play for Southern California, Sewell doesn’t have a college team he roots for. That’s good news for Alabama.
What’s even better news is the family is already planning a return trip. And the best news happens to be what some in Utah call Penei.
“I pretty much promised them that we are coming back for an official visit,” his father said. “I was telling [outside linebackers coach] Tosh [Lupoi] that his nickname that he got as a freshman was ‘Bama.’ To see that he has this opportunity at the highest level is crazy.”

The comfortability factor at Alabama
Sewell’s primary recruiter at Alabama is Lupoi. That’s important because outside of Saban, he may be the best recruiter the Crimson Tide have.
Gabriel noted that Lupoi has familiarity with West Coast kids, specifically Polynesians, from his time in California and Washington as an assistant. But the Sewells’ comfort factor goes much deeper than the relationship they have established with Lupoi.
“There was just something very different about our time here in Tuscaloosa,” Gabriel said. “I don’t know how to explain it. I really don’t know how to put the words to it. It’s just very comforting at Alabama.”
There has been some chatter about a commitment to Alabama coming in the near future, but his father said that they want to take a few official visits before deciding anything. He did say that a decision could come in late October or early November because Penei is an early enrollee.
As of now, Alabama is in very good position to land the 6-foot-4, 349-pound prospect.
“I can just tell from the facial expressions that everything has changed,” Gabriel said. “It’s changed for him. There may be some schools that are no longer in the mix that were. I think the list got shorter after this. He told me that he wants a few days to digest it all before he really knows how he feels.”

Justin Fields de-commits from Penn State
The nation’s No. 1 dual-threat quarterback Justin Fields de-committed from Penn State on Tuesday night. It wasn’t a surprise to see him choose to open his recruitment. From my conversation with him and his father last month, I thought it was highly unlikely he would end up with the Nittany Lions.
Alabama, along with Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and LSU are some of the schools fighting to land his commitment. I don’t think Alabama has much of a chance to land Fields because of reasons we have expressed here on SEC Country.
The Crimson Tide have three young quarterbacks on their roster and playing time for a Class of 2018 quarterback isn’t quite clear in the near future in Tuscaloosa. Fields, who in my opinion is one of the best overall recruits I’ve seen in person since I started covering recruiting in 2015, has a better chance to play right away at Florida and Auburn. Both of those schools are in good position to land him. Florida State is also in good position to land his commitment.
Even though Alabama would love to add Fields, I don’t think it’s happening.

Why Justyn Ross’ Auburn visit was special
AUBURN, Ala. — Justyn Ross is a regular at Auburn — as regular as any target in the 2018 class, in fact.
The 4-star wide receiver from Phenix City, Ala., has been at every recruit-heavy event that has taken place this spring, from junior days to spring games to Big Cat Weekend. So, his most recent trip to the Plains didn’t offer a groundbreaking, decision-changing moment.
But it was different from all of those visits for a critical reason:
His mother, Charay Franklin, made her first college trip with Ross since she returned from her yearlong deployment in Kuwait as a member of the National Guard. For the first time, he was able to experience Auburn — a program he’s as close with as any other — with her, as she begins to help him weigh his many top-tier options.
“It was great because I know she had a good time. I know she’s glad to finally be back helping me with my recruitment,” Ross said. “I was very excited [for her to be back]. I thought she was coming back the next week, but she surprised me and came back before Mother’s Day. It was a great day.”
Franklin has communicated with members of the Auburn staff in the past, but Ross was glad his mother finally got a face-to-face encounter: “She finally got the chance to talk to them,” he said.
Ross stands firm publicly that his decision is still up in the air. Alabama and Auburn still recruit him the hardest, but the standout Clemson visit sticks in his memory, as well. But it would be hard to imagine the No. 1 prospect in Alabama leaving the state when both programs are in prime form.
For some perspective, the 247Sports composite tracks player rankings since 2000. Only twice has the No. 1 player in the state not gone to Alabama or Auburn: Chad Jackson in 2003 and Jameis Winston in 2012. The state’s top programs just don’t miss on the state’s top player with any kind of regularity to make it worth believing it will happen.
But when Ross talks with his mother about his recruitment, he isn’t even able to narrow it down that far.
“We haven’t talked too much about it, but when we do talk, she’s always just asking me where I feel the most comfortable?” Ross said. “I can’t really even give her an answer right now. … I think she wants a place where she can drop me off and say, ‘I’m comfortable with him being here.'”
